At first I clicked on this video that ok, another metalhead and his cd collection, but when I saw dungeon synth, dark ambient, martial industrial, I immediately subbed. Finally someone who likes a wide range of musical genres and sub-genres. I personally like both metal and electronic music and many "weird" subgenres from both worlds (e.g. witch house, dungeon dubstep). And really unknown and quality bands (when you mentioned Cultus Sanguine within doom metal, my heart jumped with joy). Killer collection!
Thanks bud. I would go so far as to say that I hate the typical metalhead who just listens to metal or other guitar based music. I've personally been very eclectic with my tastes my whole life, although it did cause some internal crisis when I was younger, because you see all the elitists saying this or that, but I got over it pretty quickly. Thanks for subbing, but I'm taking a long break from this channel for mental health reasons, however I'm still going to be posting a few things on my other channel that is dark ambient related. Look up "Noctilucant" on TH-cam if you'd like to see it. Thanks!
@ apologies for the short comment. I meant I’m a bit of an obsessive when it comes to CDs, vinyl, cassettes, lol. I was the same when I was younger in the 80’s, trading tales etc, so much fun that was. You have a great collection, one to be admired and loved. Kudos to you, great passion. Very best wishes 🫡
This is a killer video dude! I do something very similar to this with my setup, tho not as fancy with the dividers hahah gotta love the wood look! Micro genre organization is the way to do it man. 🍻
Thanks duder! Yeah definitely start collecting. It's a lot of fun! Hmm, not sure what the song playing in the background is. I'll have to re-watch the video and get back to you later.
My collection is sorted by genre . It always seemed strange to me Bolt Thrower records besides Bohren and the club of gore. But I don't separate the discography if the performer changes the style they play( Ulver)
So glad to see you're so similar to me, Black Metal may be my favourite genre ever, but I LOVE Dungeon Synth, Dark Ambient, Folk etc. To me all these genres and Black Metal strike such a similar emotion in my brain. Doom Metal, Death Metal, movie/game soundtracks etc too. No idea how I haven't come across your channel sooner but you seem like such a chill, open minded guy. Also I have to check out your music. What's the music channel called?
Sorry for the late reply. Yeah diversity in music is where its at! Black Metal one day, OG Rap the next, haha. Anyway, my music project is called Noctilucant. You can check it out here: noctilucant.bandcamp.com/
I admire your restraint with your collection. I still can't get rid of the "complete the discography" urge. The genre separation is really cool and I'm sure took a lot of work. I couldn't do it personally, it would drive me crazy having bands in multiple sections. I separated mine into "mainstream" and "everything else" years ago and I fucking hate it haha. BTW Countdown to Extinction was my first CD as well. Great video Joe!
I believe when I first separated everything it was something like 25 different genres, so yeah I had to consolidate pretty quickly. You can't go wrong with some old Megadeth! That's awesome it was your first CD too!
Sweeeet! Yeah same here started collecting CDs around the same time in the 90s and held some... sold some... and many got stolen over time. I could never go multi-genre like you do, my tastes are also way too all over the place, but great to see your attempt at this to see you're still sane after all that... perhaps the woodblocks were a good aid for mental stability haha. Those three inch CDs are such bastards when it comes to trying to file them neatly anywhere.
I think it's kinda interesting to think just how many we would have if we never got rid of a single one. I'm pretty sure, considering how many regular orders I was making from my late teens until my late-20's, plus figuring in all the promos I used to get, that I'd probably have, easily, 3000 CDs. But then where the hell would I store all that too? So, all in all, we both probably made the right choice. Ok maybe a few regrets, haha.
I’m 14 and I just started my collection a few months bac and I have about 45 cds and I hope to expand the only problem is every time I see something wrong with the cd especially the insert I take it out the collection and it’s an issue I want to fix so bad but idk great video though
Good luck with your collection, bud! Try to not be so picky about the condition of things. It's sometimes hard to keep physical media in great condition. Believe me, I know, I've been doing it for over 30 years now. Thanks for watching!
Great collection. The highlight for me is defninetly the Specral Lore Wood Box CD. Man I search for this CD like 5 years non stop. But it sadly is limited to 50 copies so yeah it's really hard to get and never pops up anywhere. Great to see it at least.
Yeah I was really fortunate to get that. I discovered Spectral Lore right after he released his first album, and I followed him very closely for the next several years. I'll have to make sure I do a box sets and special editions video some day so I can talk about it in greater detail.
But I can't complain. I got this week the second, third and fourth Shadowland (from Russia) albums which are all limited to 20 copies. So I am glad I got them off the list. Searched for them forever.
Yeah Atmospheric Black Metal. I got really into their EP A. Which I searched also a long time. A lot of this guys stuff is really limited if physical available at all. The last CD's on Soundage Productions are easier to get but theses three albums and the EP A are some of my favorite Atmospheric BM.
I tried sorting after genre, but there were always albums that didn't really seem to fit anywhere, it just got spergy and annoying and I went back to alphabetical order. A bit boring, but at least I'm not lying awake at night trying to decide if Primordial is folk metal or pagan black metal. I've been listening to Blood Music a lot lately, absolute masterpiece.
Cool way to sort the collection, love the wooden dividers. I agree on quality over quantity. There are tons of bands I love that only put out one or two releases I really need, and the rest I could care less. I did sell off a chunk of my collection in 2012 when I moved from Milwaukee to Denver, some of those I regret and some I don’t, but it is what it is haha. Nice video dude, keep up the devil’s work 🤘
Yup all you can do about the stuff you sold is track it down and buy it again, but that might be a very pricey quest. Thanks for watching, always doing the devil's work!
@@joesmetalmancave I like how they sounded before they reformed, it was like the band came straight out of Hell. The vocals on the tracks Damien and Beyond the Gates of Hell sounded like an 80's horror movie slasher on steroids. To me other bands don't compare, I've listened to Kreator, Sodom and all that good stuff for years but for some reason Morbid Saint's early work will always stay with me. They were different
I have a 300 disk CD carousel to play my CD's. It is awesome except you dont know what disk is in what slot. I spent endless hours creating an excel spreadsheet with slot numbers, artist name, album name, and a track list for each album. I wish there was a software where I could just import a cddb list... it would have saved so much time.
I used to have a 100 disc one back in the 90s, but it died around 2003 or something. I totally loved loading it up with a specific genre of music and just hitting shuffle and letting it go all day. Great times! Thanks for watching!
I've gone totally down the digital route with my collection. I'm also a bit of a completist. Problem with this is you can end up with way too much music, a lot of choice but not enough time to listen to it all. I've now got a humongous collection from many genres, pretty much on a large disc drive, I'll probably never get through all of it but I do have a lot of choice all the same.
Believe me, I know how that goes too. I've got almost 500 albums in my Bandcamp collection I'll likely or barely never listen to again, save for a few, which I've since burnt to CDRs. Yeah there's no shortage of music out there these days.
awesome music. I made one I called "Gray metal" (Agalloch) goes between black and folk. Thinking about making one called "84 to 87" inside the heavy metal section for the metal guitar riffs in that time period I like like band Savatage - hall of the mountain king.
Where do you put black metal but has Pagan in the band name? 😅 I've been thinking of doing something similar myself with the little room I have for my collection as most is in boxes but I've got so much music I haven't listened to I don't get chance to listen to much stuff on the shelves let alone what's in the boxes 🙁 I need to get more poser metal 😅 I don't mind dark ambient but not a huge fan but I'll check your other channel for sure! Cool boxsets 🍻🤘🏻
That's actually a very valid question, as certainly some of the bands I filed under black metal have pagan themes, but I guess musically they feel more BM. Anyway thanks for checking out the other channel!! Yeah dark ambient isn't for everyone but I've been a fan for many years and it felt right a few years ago to try n give it a little more exposure. It's kinda worked out haha.
I've sorted my collection somewhat similar, i have seperated my heavy metal cds from classic rock. It appears to be just about half and half so thats about 1200 of each genre. Im thinking sbout moving my doom to a different rack as well as my black metal. Its a matter of getting more racks though so hopefully i can have it done by the end of the year. My extra money is going to buying more CDs at the moment. I actually enjoy most of what Metallica has released, St Anger and Lulu being the 2 worst for me so i dont have them in my collection.
Yup the storage definitely becomes a thing after several years, and sometimes even these old school shelves, like I have, get filled. I'm thinking about the future, probably the next house my wife and I own, I'll just mount and anchor shelves to a wall, which should provide a lot more space. You're very brave to listen to Lulu, haha. Never bothered, I hate Lou Reed. I also seem to recall playing baseball with the st anger cd shortly after it was released.
1992-93 I was in eighth grade and Megadeth CTE was the most popular album at my school. My parents put some limits on my metal but luckily that's all over with. As far as having multiple album copies and whole discographies, I'm guilty big time. I don't feel bad about it and I only blame it on my fucking Asperger's.
Do you not like an album because of someone elses opinion or do you genuinely not like an album. I have to have full discographys of the bands and I enjoy cause there're always at least one or two great songs
