I knew a lot of people growing up who ran unlicensed businesses out of their house, so it was really important we didn’t let the word get out too far about them. My neighbor down the road modified and repaired cars and motorcycles, a lady a few streets over did my haircuts and we bought produce from another neighbor. It felt cool supporting local, even if they were operating illegally.

I had that feeling when I went to a sears a year before it closed, like 60 of the building was off limits and behind a curtain and what space remained was like 70% clothing racks and 30% miscellaneous items.

Maybe it’s because I have a bunch of old ladies in my family, but I love going into small quilting stores. It reminds me of going to Grandma’s house. They always decorate them with all these old antiques, like vintage Singers, or even antiques you’d find in a farm. I also love how all the fabric is sorted by color and it’s just very nice to look at. There’s also a bunch of the quilts from the pre-assembled packages displayed, as well as other fabric-related projects, just to cover up any empty space. I have NEVER been into a quilting store with bare walls; It’s always decorated. There’s usually music playing, but very quietly, so that’s pretty calming ambience when I walk in from bustling city noises. Everyone smiles at you, it’s never busy, it’s quiet and you can think...such a relaxing environment for me.

In my town we have this weird broken down half burnt building that just says "pecans" on it, and you can bring pecans in there to be cracked by a machine, and you can sell them the pecans or pay them to crack them. Cool system, cause there's pecans everywhere in fall here, but weird building.

On my walks to and from school, there was a house with a long driveway with a sign that said "we mod xboxes." I think it got torn down.
Update: Yep. It definitely got torn down to make way for some condos.

The reason you see a lot of stores that seem like there is no one in there ever & u wonder how are they still in business is because a lot of them are fronts where u launder money. One of the biggest Money laundering places are mattress stores. If you pay attention you'll start to see tons of mattress places everywhere & a lot just right next to each other or in the same area but literally nobody will be inside of most of them, it's crazy.

    • @yourehereforthatarentyou

@@yourehereforthatarentyou : You would think so, but my friend told me about the mattress store/money laundering thing years ago so we drove around & he showed me tons of mattress shops everywhere in our neighborhood all around each other & there was this 1 street by my house that I never noticed until he showed me, that had 5 mattress stores within 1 mile of each other & 3 of them were the same exact company. They had 1 of their stores in a shopping complex on 1 side of the street, 1 store in the complex across the street & 1 more store a couple blocks down the street in another complex. They are always open, but nobody is ever inside or parked in front of like 3 out of every 4 places we drive by when we remember to notice . But somehow these places stay open for years & years with next to no customers, tons of competition, & bad store placement (A company opening a new store right next to where they already have a store at), etc. So long story short, MONEY LAUNDERING!!! But hey, that's just a theory.......
      A GAME THEORY!

I’ve only been in a Hot Topic once, but I already know I hate being in them. It’s dark, claustrophobic, and full of overpriced edgy fan service trash that gay scenecore tumblr kids love. Not to mention the employees bother you every five minutes to try and relate to you so you’ll buy more stuff. When I go shopping I want to socialize with the staff as little as possible and just be left to do my own thing. I know it’s their job but it still irks me as it seems HT is really bad for this.

Bro for real... I hate when store employees greet me, there was a corner store on my way home from work and EVERYTIME they would greet costumers coming in (store policy I guess) Every time "Hi" "welcome to (store name)" "good morning/afternoon" Forcing me to awkwardly make eye contact for a split second and say something stupid like "you too" Then scurry off into a random isle like a cockroach and blankly look at random stuff, like that's what I was there to buy... Then snap out of it and dash to the thing I actually came for... and... hope... to... god, if I'm buying alcohol they don't ask my date of birth... Because, that's like a hidden -secret agent code phrase- that makes my brain go -blank- and I forget EVERYTHING!!!!
