You mention going to a 12 row corn head. I realize this is because of your 12R planter. I personally would look to go to a 16R planter and then run an 8R head on a 9670 size combine. We went from a 693 on a 9500 to an 608C on a 9670, and the jump in capacity is HUGE. Hauling the grain away, especially corn as you know, is the bottleneck in our operation. The jump from a 12R planter to 16R planter is also nice. Not trying to tell you how to run your operation, rather sharing my thoughts to try and get you to look at other options. No 2 farming operations are the same.
In the 1970's I bought Ten row planter and 6 row then 8 row head, I was harvesting 12,000 lb/ac. high moisture corn with a 7700. Today, I have a STS9770 with 12 rows and harvest 2,800 bus. per hr easily. The Kusters could fill their 30,000 bu bin in a day with a STS if they made 275 bushels in the future.
I see a lot of your commenters must really want you to spend your money on new iron. It's easy to tell someone how to spend their money, much harder to spend your own money. Looks like what you have now works just fine. Hard to get ahead when you're a slave to the bank.
Chore/light duty type tractors are good to have on the farm. That will save the hours on the heavy duty type. Most of the farmers in my area do just what you were talking about with their tractors. They put the light duty tractors doing the mowing, hay, & ect.. Stay safe.
Don't sell your ideas short, Travis. Building your beef herd is a major investment if you think of the total dollars spent and/or earned over the long term. In a few years, when you are somewhat further along, you can look back to 2017 and (hopefully) smile at the wisdom of your decisions.
Keep your eyes open for a combine, even a bigger one that you mentioned. Maybe you'll find a bigger one at a great price that's in good shape with low hours. We didn't plan on getting a CR9070, as were looking more at a CR9060 or CR960 instead, but a dealer wanted to move the 9070 and got a heck of a deal on it.
There's a farmer up the road from me that I help out time to time and he runs 12 row planters but cuts his corn w 8 row heads. Just some food for thought.
I would trust old iron because you dont have to pay your soul for it. I prefer tractors built before the 1980s and combines built before the mid 1990s.
I worked on a farm that ran 2 9760 and 2 9770s and with 12 row heads in 200bu corn when you would unload on the go there was a really noticeable diff between the 2 power wise. I dont know the specs im not a Deere guy but i know from being in the seat of both the 9770 was alot more machine. Does like its fuel tho Take care. Bob
As far as new tractors and for what you would consider light duty in your applications, Would it be the 5 series, like the 5115 M or 5125 R or would it be any of the 6 series John Deere's.

new iron is nice to buy but hey, if you get more cattle that will pay you back, that new iron will be easier to buy later with more cattle to make you more money
I am biased but I have to say case has much better combines and you should check out a case 7 series combine they are about the size you are looking for
Hi Travis, you can't go wrong with having a 4020 around, one of the best John Deere ever made.

45Deere9500 makes a lot of sense.

How times have changed. When my dad was a farm kid in the 60s in upstate NY a 4020 was the big power in town and 8Ns were chore tractors.

I hope that someday, you would get a chore tractor with a loader. that would be huge! I know you had one at one time, and I'll bet you miss it.
You really have a tractor from each generation. I think it's great.
Travis
Very informative video. thank you.

vic
The tractors are looking clean!

You have your bases covered with hp ranges for tractors. As far as buying equipment buying over the winter is the best time to buy.

We run our baler on a 7200r but we only use it for baling up weeds in the grain fields
just out of curiosity do all the lights work on the 4020
Will have no problem finding a 9770. There are a lot around. Look for a auction. Save $$$
Suprised ur baler dosent have the bale ejector. My old 435 has it.dont have to back up. U got some nice equip there last a life time.
Good info...thanks !!
i'd love 2 see u mow or bale with the 4020 or the 4640.. i love those 2 deeres.
When you guys use the 4640 on the baler, or the discbine, I'm assuming you use a pto adapter. Have you had any trouble with the splines wearing?
Chris Dyck no, we have the HD adapters though
I'd think it would be neat to see the 4020 bailing as well.
When you get a combine I recommend the 9610 John Deere
Did you guys like the 4440 or was it too small for your needs???
It was a good machine and I wouldn't mind having another one
will the planter ever go on the 8r
I would imagine that the 76 goes through tires the most.
I think our bigest "light duty" tractor was our only Deere, a 2020.
Why don't you guys put on the doors on the 4020
would you consider a case on your farm
nope
Conner Smith they like paying 20% more for green paint and a name and less quality.
Jeff Gixer if you’re not a farmer you have no room to talk
Probably been asked but why do you take the duals off of the 4640 all the time?
+joey woods don't need to wear out the duals running up and down the road
The Rest Of The Story ahh makes sense lol
don't forget the snow plow is on the 4020 from Bryson geffre
Bryson geffre and the harrow on the 4020
is it called a rotary cutter
so the 7600 is really a 7700 in disguise
we own a 9660 we hand a 40ft draper on it and a 12 roe do you should be good
love it
Great video Travis.
Ryan would have 100k by now but you steal his thunder.

John Haas they are not what they started out to be. Used to be a great channel. now it's just ads. Travis shows the real farm life.

Wait Do John Deere balers use 1000 pto not 540 because it I thought 4640's only had 1000 pto.
I converted the baler to 1000 pto
ever considered putting a loader on the 7600?
liam hennessy yep, decided against it.
The Rest Of The Story whys that?
My guess is they already have the Bobcat, which is cheaper to run than a 140hp tractor...
If u want Little more Hp than the 4020 look at 5205
why don't you put the 82 on the mower so you don't have to switch around the 76
John Haas the 46 has to run the rihno rake I'd be surprised if the 4020 could pull that rake on the hills
I am biased but I have to say case has much better combines and you should check out a case 7 series combine they are about the size you are looking for
Christian Gierach yea we love case combine they for sure
It shouldn't matter how big of tractor you run on baler that's what the slip clutch is for
who's older you or ryan
+Honda Rider me of course. The older brothers are always the better of the 1.
The big krone European rakes are big
cattle grow into money machinery grows into rust
come
lol
