Actually, I think I got a better origin for dancing blade. My theory is that it's based of the skill Astra from Genealogy of the Holy War. When the skill procs, the user attacks 5 times in a row without the enemy counter attacking. Dancing blade is nerfed to 4 strikes most likely due to balancing issues. In addition, Shield breaker, while definitely based of the rapier, could also be based off the Luna skill, also from Genealogy. The skill negates the foes defenses and lets the user attack with full power. Shield breaker breaks shields, negating the enemy defenses. Counter is also probably based off the Wrath skill, which has the user critical when counter attacking at low health. Ultimates addition of the GBA critical sound effect when landing a counter adds to the moves origin within the Wrath skill. That's all I'd like to point out, just adding my two cents.
Fun fact: Sakura was originally going to add Leif, but decided to add Roy instead and when he saw how Roy was handled in FE6 he wished he hadn't added Roy in melee.

The Thing about the Fire Emblem as an artifact inside the games is... it is not even in every Game I think. And even if it is, it's not always the same artifact. For example in The Binding Blade the Fire Emblem is a little red Gem that is infused in the Roy's Sword the Binding Blade soooo... that's why the "Fire Emblem" is not the Series Icon aaaand the "Cecilia" Costume from Roy is not because of Cecilia I think, It's from the Bow Unit and his Childhood friend Wolt. Or it could be both, I dunno

Every game has its own fire emblem being sometimes completely different things (except Gaiden, since it takes place on the continent west to Archanea where the Fire emblem is at in that universe). In FE 1-(2)-3-11-12-13 it’s the shield with the five stones (the same one that was forged by Naga) In FE 4-5 it’s the crest of the house of Velthormer (but it wasn’t very relevant in those games if I recall correctly) In FE 6-7 it’s the seal used against the dragons after the scouring In FE 8 it’s the sacred stone of Grado that barely saw the light of day in-game In FE 9-10 it’s Lehran’s medallion that houses the goddess of chaos Yune And in FE 14 it’s the Yato blade which Corrin uses

I fell there's more lore behind the tipper and hilt mechanic. Notice how in FE game, when you move your units, it dispays your movement range (blue squares) and attack range (red squares). Think on the sword as an unit, the red squares could be interpreted as the tip of the sword (the limit of your attack reach) while the movement spaces as the hilt. It's a loose assumption, but maybe Marth fighting stile, postitioning himself and both parts of the sword for attack, could have some inspiration on how you position your units on the map in any fire emblem game.

Just want to point out that the “tipper” mechanic is also fairly consistent with koryu kenjitsu and modern kendo where they teach cutting with the Japanese sword towards the first 1/3 of the blade as it’s the longest reach, and the sharpest + widest cutting circumference with the curved blade. It’s similar to the Nakayui on a shinai being a marker for valid strikes. Even in western style anime you will see characters use japanese kenjitsu influences including stances and forms despite fighting with a western double sided blade. The rapier example isn’t wrong, but as the falchion does have a stronger cutting edge I did want to point out this parallel as well. Also some falchions are strait but all maintained a side designed for a cleaner cut with a larger possibly ever so slightly curved tip for a wider cutting circumference. Which works in line well with Roy being a noob, and Lucina only being a mechanical change after awkward considerations.

Ah yes, Marth, an extremely fast character that wields a rapier. He also has armor, which he can remove in order to move at near light speed, and as a last desperate attack, he can break of the tip of his rapier.
Finn Diggle most of his moves are made up, and the ones that aren't have inspiration from the games like his side b which is the long dash hit with his orbitars up b is flight obviously, his arrows is from the bow, and i'm pretty damn sure all of his a moves are made up
I would like that too. Maybe in combination with Dark Pit? I mean, I'm probably one of the few people who actually appreciate him being in Smash. His appearance in Palutena's Smash trailer was, what got me interested in Kid Icarus Uprising, after all.
One thing that bugs me is they change pits moveset in smash four and add in dark pit, who is a clone. I understand why they didn't have dark pit have brawl pits moveset. They just have to change the cosmetics to look like the new game and ta-da not a clone.
To elaborate further on the whole point about Lucina, Doc, and Dark Pit starting out as alt costumes, them and Alph were originally going to be alt costumes with different properties - sort of like how some alt costumes in Project M have different VFX (or how Wire Frame Little Mac doesn't have any voice clips) but with actual gameplay differences. The team eventually gave Lucina, Doc, and Dark Pit their own character slots and removed Alph's unique properties when they weren't able to re-work the in-game records system to be able to track specific alt costumes as separate characters.

I would agree that character slots can't be taken, but the main thing that bothers me is Corrin, we basically had a set amount of DLC characters.... Corrin could've been K. Rool or another popular character from the Ballot.

The way I look at it. The Sweetspots added in their attacks force the player to position Princess Marth/Lasuna/Koopaling to get the best out of them. Just like you have to position your units in the games to coordinate and plan out your attacks. Since there were no smash balls in melee, it also felt like landing a critical hit if you look at getting the sweetspot in a different perspective. It makes more sense considering Lasagna's attacks have consistent damage since Awakening is very dull and easy. But that is arguable there. Being a male variant of Martha Is pretty much obvious since she was trying to imitate royal grace in the beginning of Awakening. But it was pretty much just a money grab attempt when she eventually revealed herself to be a reverse trap just to mainly to sell the game... Or we could suggest what I love to most believe. Females use one part of their brain, Males use two parts. The sweetspots coincide with that. Especially considering how women never get the point. Samurai originally imagined The boy to be hotheaded, (I blame the hair since it's an anime trope for colored hair to determine their personality.) so him having a sweetspot at the hilt would better compliment such a nature, getting all "in your face" and such. Daddy was a little saddened when Boy turned out to be ironically a Ginger Marth. All compassionate and caring to his allies. In sm4sh, Red haired softy has a moveset more his own. Being a back-handed style of wielding. Not necessarily something he does. But it's most likely there to compliment on how Dedede wants Red Protagonist to act as an opposite to Blue Protagonist. Pretty boy Is less of a character that takes after the core gameplay like the rest do. More so showing of his unique characteristics that he takes after his father who dons a crude swordfighting style. You can see how unruly his attacks are in how he handles the sword. Most prominent in his jabs and how he's pretty much just swinging a claymore around. He doesn't care about poise or etiquette. His mindset is just wanting to hit you with a heavy metal stick. Aang is more apparent in the whole positioning argument of mine considering how you get the best out of him. Use tomes and the sword sparingly and in the right situation. He seems to most capture the essence of Fire Emblem I might say. Or... reflect it the best...? And in such a simplistic way even. Almost as simplistic as the game he's from. Corn's attacks are mostly flashy and basically just attacks with a pinch of dragon. Kahmooree was mostly added in the game to promote Fates overseas, so his attacks are just bleh. The Dragonborn doesn't really Have much to make it stand out aside from most of his attacks sending his opponents in a vertical angle. That might suggest something. But it's mostly just there for now until someone says otherwise. Also Chainsaw Blade.
In the GBA games, the hero class turns their sword/axe around while doing the attack animation. I think thats why Roy turns his sword while attacking too.
Other things: The reason they don't use the Fire Emblem as the symbol is because it looks different depending on which game it appears. The third hit of Marth's down dancing blade in Melee also reference to another attack animation Marth can perform in Myster of the Emblem. Also Roy sucks in Smash because he sucks in FE ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Lucina also wields the Falchion so WHY can't she tipper? Lucina is shorther then Marth so her recovery doesn't travel as far strangely enough. Roy replaced Leif. Funny, if Leif was in Roy's place he'd be WAY more popular then wanna be Marth. The reason why Roy is probably so similar to Marth in gameplay is because he is similar to Marth through his actions in game.
Mr. Sizzle The Parallel/Exalted/New Falchion is said to have changed it's design over time in-game for basically forever, so that's probably why Lucina/Chrom's Falchion doesn't act the same as Marth's

Well, I'm not saying he's bad, but I personally think his videos are doing the same thing over and over. It feels unlike other youtubers that tries to "evolve" their content and there for making it better, he just stays doing the same thing he always does and doesn't evolve as a content creator because that's what he feels safe with. Funnily enough, in FE Fates they gave Amiibo Marth a skill called Dancing Blade which gave him Spd+3 and Def-1. Ike got heavy blade, which gave him Atk+3 Spd-1 even though Ike is cannonically considered very fast and very strong, just with an unrefined somewhat brash style of swordplay
It's been a year since this video was posted, but I want to say that aside from Roy, the inclusion or absence of tippers on smash characters could reference their game's system for RNG. Marth's game rolled once and used whatever it rolled, while ike and lucina's games would roll twice and average it. This meant that they had a more consistent and more predictable damage, while Marth's used a more accurate and wider varying hit rate. In smash this was translated to more consistent damage on future character's swords. Some of Corrin's moves have tippers, while others don't and could be said to reference the complicated Hybrid system of that game.
Just a correction on the Dancing Blade thing. The Astra Skill (the one used by the Meteor Sword) was introduced in FE4, not 5. It could also be a reference to the Brave Sword (lets you attack up to 4 times) which was also first introduced in FE4 (technically FE2, but there it functioned more like a Killing Edge).

I fell there's more lore behind the tipper and hilt mechanic. Notice how in FE game, when you move your units, it dispays your movement range (blue squares) and attack range (red squares). Think on the sword as an unit, the red squares could be interpreted as the tip of the sword (the limit of your attack reach) while the movement spaces as the hilt.
It's a loose assumption, but maybe Marth fighting stile, postitioning himself and both parts of the sword for attack, could have some inspiration on how you position your units on the map in any fire emblem game.

Just want to point out that the “tipper” mechanic is also fairly consistent with koryu kenjitsu and modern kendo where they teach cutting with the Japanese sword towards the first 1/3 of the blade as it’s the longest reach, and the sharpest + widest cutting circumference with the curved blade.
It’s similar to the Nakayui on a shinai being a marker for valid strikes.
Even in western style anime you will see characters use japanese kenjitsu influences including stances and forms despite fighting with a western double sided blade.
The rapier example isn’t wrong, but as the falchion does have a stronger cutting edge I did want to point out this parallel as well.
Also some falchions are strait but all maintained a side designed for a cleaner cut with a larger possibly ever so slightly curved tip for a wider cutting circumference.
Which works in line well with Roy being a noob, and Lucina only being a mechanical change after awkward considerations.

Alex didnt do a lot of research for this one did he? Anyway the fire emblem changes from game to game. In some games it's a shield, in other's an orb, a necklace, someone's soul etc. The sword was a better choice for an icon as almost every mc in the series wields an iconic sword exclusive to them.

I would like that too. Maybe in combination with Dark Pit? I mean, I'm probably one of the few people who actually appreciate him being in Smash. His appearance in Palutena's Smash trailer was, what got me interested in Kid Icarus Uprising, after all.
One thing that bugs me is they change pits moveset in smash four and add in dark pit, who is a clone. I understand why they didn't have dark pit have brawl pits moveset. They just have to change the cosmetics to look like the new game and ta-da not a clone.

To elaborate further on the whole point about Lucina, Doc, and Dark Pit starting out as alt costumes, them and Alph were originally going to be alt costumes with different properties - sort of like how some alt costumes in Project M have different VFX (or how Wire Frame Little Mac doesn't have any voice clips) but with actual gameplay differences. The team eventually gave Lucina, Doc, and Dark Pit their own character slots and removed Alph's unique properties when they weren't able to re-work the in-game records system to be able to track specific alt costumes as separate characters.

The way I look at it. The Sweetspots added in their attacks force the player to position Princess Marth/Lasuna/Koopaling to get the best out of them. Just like you have to position your units in the games to coordinate and plan out your attacks. Since there were no smash balls in melee, it also felt like landing a critical hit if you look at getting the sweetspot in a different perspective.
It makes more sense considering Lasagna's attacks have consistent damage since Awakening is very dull and easy. But that is arguable there. Being a male variant of Martha Is pretty much obvious since she was trying to imitate royal grace in the beginning of Awakening. But it was pretty much just a money grab attempt when she eventually revealed herself to be a reverse trap just to mainly to sell the game... Or we could suggest what I love to most believe. Females use one part of their brain, Males use two parts. The sweetspots coincide with that. Especially considering how women never get the point.
Samurai originally imagined The boy to be hotheaded, (I blame the hair since it's an anime trope for colored hair to determine their personality.) so him having a sweetspot at the hilt would better compliment such a nature, getting all "in your face" and such. Daddy was a little saddened when Boy turned out to be ironically a Ginger Marth. All compassionate and caring to his allies. In sm4sh, Red haired softy has a moveset more his own. Being a back-handed style of wielding. Not necessarily something he does. But it's most likely there to compliment on how Dedede wants Red Protagonist to act as an opposite to Blue Protagonist.
Pretty boy Is less of a character that takes after the core gameplay like the rest do. More so showing of his unique characteristics that he takes after his father who dons a crude swordfighting style. You can see how unruly his attacks are in how he handles the sword. Most prominent in his jabs and how he's pretty much just swinging a claymore around. He doesn't care about poise or etiquette. His mindset is just wanting to hit you with a heavy metal stick.
Aang is more apparent in the whole positioning argument of mine considering how you get the best out of him. Use tomes and the sword sparingly and in the right situation. He seems to most capture the essence of Fire Emblem I might say. Or... reflect it the best...? And in such a simplistic way even. Almost as simplistic as the game he's from.
Corn's attacks are mostly flashy and basically just attacks with a pinch of dragon. Kahmooree was mostly added in the game to promote Fates overseas, so his attacks are just bleh. The Dragonborn doesn't really Have much to make it stand out aside from most of his attacks sending his opponents in a vertical angle. That might suggest something. But it's mostly just there for now until someone says otherwise. Also Chainsaw Blade.

In the GBA games, the hero class turns their sword/axe around while doing the attack animation. I think thats why Roy turns his sword while attacking too.
Other things:
The reason they don't use the Fire Emblem as the symbol is because it looks different depending on which game it appears.
The third hit of Marth's down dancing blade in Melee also reference to another attack animation Marth can perform in Myster of the Emblem.
Also Roy sucks in Smash because he sucks in FE ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Mr. Sizzle The Parallel/Exalted/New Falchion is said to have changed it's design over time in-game for basically forever, so that's probably why Lucina/Chrom's Falchion doesn't act the same as Marth's

Well, I'm not saying he's bad, but I personally think his videos are doing the same thing over and over. It feels unlike other youtubers that tries to "evolve" their content and there for making it better, he just stays doing the same thing he always does and doesn't evolve as a content creator because that's what he feels safe with. Funnily enough, in FE Fates they gave Amiibo Marth a skill called Dancing Blade which gave him Spd+3 and Def-1. Ike got heavy blade, which gave him Atk+3 Spd-1 even though Ike is cannonically considered very fast and very strong, just with an unrefined somewhat brash style of swordplay

It's been a year since this video was posted, but I want to say that aside from Roy, the inclusion or absence of tippers on smash characters could reference their game's system for RNG. Marth's game rolled once and used whatever it rolled, while ike and lucina's games would roll twice and average it. This meant that they had a more consistent and more predictable damage, while Marth's used a more accurate and wider varying hit rate. In smash this was translated to more consistent damage on future character's swords. Some of Corrin's moves have tippers, while others don't and could be said to reference the complicated Hybrid system of that game.

Just a correction on the Dancing Blade thing. The Astra Skill (the one used by the Meteor Sword) was introduced in FE4, not 5. It could also be a reference to the Brave Sword (lets you attack up to 4 times) which was also first introduced in FE4 (technically FE2, but there it functioned more like a Killing Edge).
