I lived in Rockville for a year and i lived in Silver Spring for 10 years. I do agree with you on that bother areas downtown and business districts feels different. It all depends on what you like. Both areas are great to live in. I personality love Silver Spring and Wheaton area more. Titus a little more diversity in Sliver Spring.
Thank you so much for this video! I'm moving to Washington DC from Australia and I have no idea what I'm doing, I've never been to the US and I couldn't believe the DC rents when I saw them. (I know the rents there are not emblematic of the US in general). It's hard to get a feel for areas based on articles alone, so this was really helpful. On first impression, I think Silver Spring looks nicer
Rockville, definitely has more of a small-town feel - which I enjoy (although I lived in Manhattan)....with access to pretty much everything you'll need.
@ZA V IA Go for it. Rockville is diverse, but SS's diversity is more noticeable bcuz it's larger, and has areas that are much more "hood" like....and I say that with all due respect.
Silver Spring is the mixing bowl of so many cultures in an urban city. As for Rockville is a little bit more upper class suburban and not so cultural diverse.
Silver spring tops imo. Downtown looks and feels like your in a major city. The mall is rly cool and I like the restaurants and how close it is to DC as well.
havent been in silverspring in almost 20 years... I was back in rockville last year. Rockville is where I grew up... trying to buy my childhood home. would mean a lot to keep it in the family. I love the area's rockville and silverspring....... the area for the seasons is perfect absolutely stunning.. much love to you all
SS is really nice, but there is lots of traffic in the area. For example, Chevy Chase is approximately 7 miles away, but could easily take 1 to 1 1/2 hours returning home. Post COVID, it may have gotten better since a lot of folks work from home.
Silver Spring is more “organic,” and developed over time. Rockville’s downtown was completely razed for “urban renewal” in the 1960s, and replaced with a mall. That mall was later razed, and a new town center was built where a strip shopping center was. That strip center was built where there was once a thriving black community. Maybe in 50 years, Rockville will have more of an organic feel. Rockville is also an incorporated city, with its own government. Silver Spring is not incorporated, with its borders defined only by zip codes.
Rockville feels more diverse overall. Silver spring feels more like a city. Personally I pick Rockville because it have more trendy areas near Gaithersburg and Bethesda.
Silver Spring is more similar to Uptown DC (Columbia Heights & Petworth Area) and Rockville is more similar to the Upper Northwest area (West of Rock Creek Park). That’s how I look at it, one is more Urban and the other is more Upper class suburban.
I used live in Montgomery county but I was 13 years old I had to move to Frederick county and now Frederick is growing now used to be all country but now city
I'm from Anne Arundel county I drive to or out Montgomery County every 2 to 5 days and I have to say I have never been to Rockville so I will have to say silver spring
I'm doing business in Rockville reside in silver spring I wish I do vice versa doing business in silver spring reside in Rockville ,I will say business is hotter in silver spring
I hate silver spring more so than Rockville I live near downtown Rockville about 10 min Walk from the the courthouse Mt Vernon place and monroe area and I hardly go downtown Rockville cause it's so boring

So if you live in SIlver Spring, you wont be subjected to local income tax? Can you link to a document that confirms this?
