    I feel sorry for India, but it is missing all the major technological trains: cloud computing, quantum computing, AI, space economy, biotech etc. There is no frontier sector in which they are competitive with the US and China (and perhaps not even with Europe). And frankly it escapes me why - what exactly does India lack?

      In space we have some presence but sadly it's a government organisation (don't expect it to become very big).
      For other fields we have man power & resources who are already working in these advanced fields but we don't have many successful companies.
      Maybe the issue is that India has so much cheap labor & it makes no sense to replace them with costly technology. The same scenario can be seen in agriculture, transport, manufacturing & other fields , we still rely heavily on manual labour.

    TCS is the least innovative company in all of India. SarvamAI, Kritrim etc are doing good work in fundamental models. Also much of GenAI applications have already been adopted by Indian startups. Not to take away from US but products like Cartesia and Perplexity were started by indians who happened to be in US at the time.

    I used to hear Indians say, "if China can do it, India can do it too, and better". However, what they say simply do not reflect the true reality, that, not one single Indian CEOs or the Indian techies or the tech gurus of Indian ancestry could develop a simple app to compete with the Chinese Tiktok or Chinese DeepSeek AI. 😅Looks like the technological gap between India and China is just like the Olympic Gold Medal gap between India and China all over again, zero against 40+ if you include Hong Kong and Taiwan.

    (I am an Indian) -- The “Tamil Coolie Sangham” aka TCS is mostly like this-. Only specializes in BS rather than real stuff. All of these guys (infy, wirpo cognizant et al) are just managing an army of coolies who does mostly janitor work for someone’s old Java code base. Don’t ask any pointed questions to these guys. They don’t know the stuff. most of their leaders should be fired or retired. They grow in these companies as paper pushers and managing some spreadsheets to track gross margins, billability, bench, funnel etc. And you are asking big questions about AI to these jokers!!! We should not give a damn about these C level folks in these companies as no one, including their customers don’t give a damn about these guys when they talk. I feel itchy when I see these jokers talk about technology future or transformative technologies etc.

    As of now, in India, it is using AI to be more productive. India is one of the few countries where AI adoption is huge. But what we need is new models like Deepseek coming out of India. There are many LLM models in regional languages, but what we need is an international model that can at least compete with OpenAI, even if it can't beat Deepseek at the moment.

      Indian software companies are mostly service oriented, that is where they can provide more jobs to people, as of now that is the need to uplift financial conditions of people. And besides AI is not just dependent on Software, it needs hardware, which currently India (and many nations) does not have capabilities.
