That’s a really a profound insight by Jimmy Carr about “the people who need it”. I’ve been to a lot of comedy shows and 99% of the time I’m great. I arrive in great form and I leave in great form. But on one occasion a few years ago I went to a show after a bad medical diagnosis; looking back it was the best show I’ve ever attended. For two hours I just forgot and during my recovery, whenever times were tough, I just went back to that time. It got me through a lot of challenging times.
It's the thing that some don't realise when it comes to comedians, they are all playing a character. As they say here, they switch it on when needed. That character may be based on some semblance of reality but it isn't really them.

Whatever you think of Jimmy Carr's comedy, he absolutely deserves all the success. Insane work ethic, stays and meets the audience after shows and is a prolific joke writer.
During these interviews, you really get to appreciate how dedicated these comedians/actors are in their subject. How they study and notice everything about other artists work. I heard today Rob that you are going to be in the new Beatrix Potter film with Dawn French, really looking forward to seeing that.
Another great chat. How kind of Jimmy to talk so much about you. And why not. Two lovely respectful comedians. Will always remember Jimmy's "No, you're the fattest!"

Jimmy Carr is great at stand-up. I first see him at Bound & Gagged at the back of The Fox pub in Palmers Green, a very small venue in comparison, and he really stood out from his show, and it was very shortly afterwards that he was dominating the telly with his wit.
