    It’s inspiring how you manage to make videos while being a surgeon. Your videos are also super helpful! I like that warrior mindset perspective- something I need to adopt.

    Hey bro you’re a badass and a your story is an inspiration. I’m about done with nursing school and have a strong desire to go into medicine. Do you see many registered nurses in med school/ in residency? If not, why do you think that is? Keep up the good work man your videos are awesome!

    • @drbuckparker
      @drbuckparker  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Nick! Good for you. Actually I think nurses make fantastic doctors. I had a couple in my residency. I'm not sure if it helps you get into med school, but once you are there you will have a leg up.

    • @nickmann500
      @nickmann500 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Buck Parker, M.D. thanks for the reply man.I’ve always wondered why it was a path less taken, considering once you’re done you’re guaranteed a job in case something gets in the way that you could not attend medical school, which can’t be said with the biology/art pre med degrees. But then again I have to do an extra year to do the pre reqs which kinda sucks but I’m not in a hurry, a year won’t make much of a difference haha.

    if you think about it it's good that you didn't rank the hospital where you did your rotation, and you ended up at Henry Ford, even though it was hell you ended up in a better spot!

    • @Pattymallany34
      @Pattymallany34 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Buck Parker, M.D. 222 isnt 90th percentile anymore thats for sure. With a mean of 220 90th percentile is about 245-250 now

    • @Pattymallany34
      @Pattymallany34 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Buck Parker, M.D. a good step score for gen surg is probably more like 240+..some people even get 260+

    • @VKingMD
      @VKingMD 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No just the 222. This years national average was a 230 so a 222 is super uncompetitive.

    I need your advice on the following matter. My wife is an IMG
    Nephrologist living permanently in the USA. She will be applying
    directly to nephrology fellowships as well as IM and FP. Here is our
    dilemma. Although Nephrology is her best choice, there are no nephrology
    program in our state, hence she will apply for IM/FP just in case a
    local residency program will accept her, since as a married couple, its
    terrible to have to move. In any case the problem is that specialty
    applications began 8/26 and residency begins around october. what does
    she do if some nephrology programs interview her before the residency
    programs even begin? On one hand she doesnt want to be completely
    unmatched, but on the other hand she might match in home state but wont
    know till later since specialty and residency ranking and match dates
    are at different times?

  • @omigiri614
    @omigiri614 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Dr. Buck, you said that you didn't apply to orthopedic surgery (and other specialty programs) because you would've had no chances because you're an IMG and you also mentioned how important the the Step 1 scores are. I'm really interested in ophthalmology and I was wondering if I could still get a residency position as an IMG if I score extremely high on my Step 1?

    • @drbuckparker
      @drbuckparker  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I didn't think at the time I could do it. But now I know it's possible. Ophtho is hard, but with a high enough Step 1 score I do think it's possible.

  • @DrIsaqueBezerra
    @DrIsaqueBezerra 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey doc. Do you think i can match Radiology if i score 260? Even being an IMG?
    What should i do to increase my chances?

    • @drbuckparker
      @drbuckparker  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you have a good chance. You may need to look for programs that are not university or large programs but there are lots in busy hospitals that will give you a good training.
