I basically fell into the knife world because their simplicity makes it easy to appreciate holding something that is well made. It's harder to fake quality with a knife than with a piece of electronics. There's something indescribable about holding something that was made by someone who cared about every detail. In today's mass production world, that's a rarity.
So you are not into the details already. Most companys absolutely could make much more out of their steels. Super steels are out their so bad heattreated, that they get outperformed by some knives which cost 1/5 of their price.
Really glad for these guys that the world now sees the art that they've created and it actually happened fairly quickly. I learned about Hog House about three months ago and at that time no one in the community that I knew had heard of them, yet. Don't get me wrong, they were almost sold out but they had one Veli available that I was going to purchase and while I was messaging one of the guys, he informed me that it had sold, but he assured me that they will make more and I will be able to get it. Anyway, from that point, I've watched as the world found and unlocked the secret door in the weave of the knife world that opened up to an old butcher shop in a beautiful and fierce eastern European countryside that housed some old machining equipment(yes they do this using ancient technology)and two friends who's love for knives has led them to this place they called HogHouse to shape metal and various materials into some of the greatest and most beautiful cutting tools on this planet. Well deserved!
Fairly new to the knive world. So glad I found your channel! "Why knives get more expensive by tier" would be a video I'd LOVE to watch with you explaining!
The design of that knife is absolute perfection. I might just sell a few knives from my collection to finance one, (if I can find one). So far, I can't, but I will keep looking. It's just gorgeous! Thanks MC!
It is always reassuring when someone like you, who has handled many more knives than most people combined, can still geek out on a knife that gives you something new or refreshing. For a lot of people who might think they’ll hit a plateau at some point and just not be excited, a video such as this could reignite their interest and passion because they see there is more out there to experience! I hope you can find more knives like this at any level because even for the people that can’t afford it, it’s still nice to see the professionals being surprised by something new and or different. Thanks MC as always!

I have my Hog House T here. It has a Damasteel Biprost pattern blade. Beautiful knife with black micarta that is milled. I feel that it has a lite detent and has to be flipped precisely. The Shirogorov Quantum R1P is very nice too.
RWL 34 is an amazing steel. And has a wide range where it performs great (58-64 HRC). It's very consistent to heat treat, and can reach 62 without cryo. I absolutely love that steel.
very nice. i don’t like the ergonomic lines (the way they look, not the way they feel in hand), but i can appreciate the milling work that went into the blade and handle.
Awsome knive. I like the arc that is formed by the handle and the knife. Great lines. Beautiful milling and a great blade shape. Unfortunately not my price range. Just got me a second Shaman and I have a WE Nexusia on order... so no budget left. But this is knfe is really tempting...
Knife is gorgeous, and about 220% my hard ceiling of $400 for buying a knife. But thanks for showing it. Kind of wish I could touch it, but a little glad I cant. I wish more people would make knives out of RWL34. Just saw another knife in it the other day, and had to look up what it is (CPM154). Really despise flathead fasteners, but from what Ive seen super high end knives often have odd or proprietary fatener heads so I guess this is better than that, but Id prefer standard Torx hardware.
I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that Artisan Cutlery does a replica of this design in the near future. They would make a MINT on something like this around the $150-$200 price range!
It might end up a similar shape but they won't be able to execute the same way. Don't get me wrong, Artisan does great work... But this isn't something Chinese companies can replicate perfectly for $150-$250. We'll see clones. Sure. But quality will be noticably different
The stepping on the blade is just amazing. And, I think the thing you're trying to argue with throughout the vid is confirmation bias... maybe. Or, at least that's the thing that came to mind as you were arguing about how to justify the price tag.
Also, @ 1080p least, there's some sort of aliasing or other video error that makes it look like there are diagonal lines on the blade, even though obviously they are not there, and that's pretty funny! 🤣
I despise slotted fasteners so likely deal breaker for me. However rest of knife is easily worth 850 buks. The milling on the blade is an entirely different level. Curious how sharp it feels right out of box new. Hope you keep it
I’m sorry I usually agree with your assessments but the Veli is just not even close to any Koenig, Holt, brown, Herman or Shirogorov. I had an early Veli from the first drop and I quickly sold it because I’m a knife snob and it simply didn’t make cut for my collection.
I wouldn't recommend getting the screwdriver out of the kitchen junk drawer. Use a Gunsmithing Screwdriver. The grind bevel is Very different from a standard screwdriver. A blade that nice doesn't deserve 'Idiot Scratches'.
@@nycmaverick welcome to the knife world dude. You'll have to work harder than that for the things you want here. A lot of people have been doing this for 30+ years. The good stuff isn't easy to acquire 100% of the time. This isn't Amazon.
If this is the one you hang your hat on as being the best, it's even more disappointing because it's such a bland, blah choice. Congrats to Hog House Knives though!!
I’ve never handled something mid tech or more than 250 or so what’s an example I should handle to understand the difference in tiers of Knives I want to experience and understand

I had to get mine out while watching this review. Couldn't agree more with your sentiment about the knife. Absolute masterpiece of knifeness.

Beautiful knife! Thanks for the review. :)
$893 and sold out for now.
I just purchased one of these last week. Light blue body, black etched blade and hardware... Super badass
Awesome configuration!! 🔥

That is a magnificent looking blade! Wow! That’s the skill you pay for. ❤
Absolutely one of the most beautiful and ultra high quality knives ever....perfect...worth every penny!
Beautifully done 👍🏼
My second Veli arrives tomorrow, in 2-tone stonewash blue this time. Can't wait!
What site were you able to purchase them? Would love to order one myself.

Tuesday, November 8, 2023.
I just bought one today and I’m hoping it’s everything everyone says. From the look of it, it looks delicious.
I can't (at this time) justify spending $1000 on a pocket knife.
But MAN.... THIS knife is tempting me in ways I can't put into words. Damn you, MC!!!

The Veli is 62 HRC and it performs well!! Been really enjoying this Blade!! 👊🏼
Thanks! You ruined me😂. This should be swag for Dassault Aviation!! Superb!!
What a stunning knife. Thanks MC!
Almost looks like a knife made by a watchmaker.
Love it.
Love my Veli Brother.. Quickly has become a favorite!! 🔥👊🏼
The Veli is so good.
Finally a knife that has a harder detent (which I like).
Gorgeous knife!
Ordered one yesterday can’t wait till its here
Where did you buy it from?
That's a beautiful knife.
Thanks for sharing bud!👊🏻 Beautiful knife
The directional texture on the clip matches the directional texture on the blade, I think!
I'm still two tiers from Hinderer, Chris Reeve territory but when I get to this tier I think I'd want a Herman.👍👍
very nice. i don’t like the ergonomic lines (the way they look, not the way they feel in hand), but i can appreciate the milling work that went into the blade and handle.
That is a beautiful knife, if I was going to spend that kind of money on a knife that would be the one I would spend it on!
Sold out ,again! MC is getting all the good knives sold out in seconds!
Recon 1 will be getting some soon!! 😉
Time to check out the Rob Johnsons Cypress next!

Love mine, can’t wait for it to get a bit cooler, that is when the big knives get pocket time.

Gunsmith flathead bits will have multiple widths and thicknesses. Find the right fit so you don’t mar the slot.
Best is a bold statement. But I'll trust ya.
So does it beat out your favorite blue carbon fiber Shirogorov knife?!?
I feel like this knife should be given to Tesla cybertruck owners, very nice knife

Trust me. It's sharp!
Where's the sharpening choil.
Neat
Not for me...yet. Maybe someday tho, the Model T looks amazing.
Ouch! CRK fans are not going to like that😂
does it not sound like he sounds like nick shabazz at like 7100

Given that this is an expensive knife, I suspect a person can order a left handed version.
1st comment ... That's a first 😂

mmmmm step milling...

Not unobtainable. You just have to make some sort of effort.
