Domor Sir, this video is so appreciated and timely. I have made my yam hips earlier but about to plant the yam seedlings today, been searching for best ways to apply organic manure ( Poultry) and this came in so well explained....Yes my organic manure is "cured"😂😊😊 its been sitting in my neighbors yard for over 3month.. God bless you so much Sir, please keep up the good work, even as God renews your strength and prosper the works of your hands!!🙏🙏
Honestly wisdom is profitable to direct no wonder my yams were dying bcos I ignorantly applied manure close to d germination instead far round d germination. Thanks for d guide bro God bless u
I'm grateful to God for leading me to your videos. I don't plant yams rather I plant three leaves yam(ona) because of the way they cultivate yam in my area digging holes before making heaps on them, they believe the holes help the tubers to penetrate the soil n thereby gives a great yield. It's tedious to me that's why I don't go into yam planting. But after watching your videos I found out that one could actually make yam heaps without digging a hole first n also get a huge harvest also. You just won a new soul to yam farmers😀. I'm grateful. I'll b going to buy yam seeds or yam setts tomorrow to plant them, hope it's not too late n it still going to give me a good harvest?
The further away from the planting point the better so that the corrosive nature of the raw fertilizer will not damage the roots. 3-5 inches deep is just good enough. Because it will eventually be dissolved by water later.
Thank you doctor for this video. I just applied npk 15,15,15 mixed with urea in a ratio 2:1 respectively. But I have a problem which could have been solved if I had watched this video. I applied the fertilizer in 4inches space apart from the yam and also 4 inches deep into the soil. I could have applied it down the heap in two places as you rightly demonstrated. Also the quantity I put is equivalent to match box. I also applied it on one side instead of two sides as yours. I will have to follow your system for the rest tomorrow. Again I put just 5 or 6 seeds of the fertilizer and I wet them today since rain stopped. Am I in order and what is the actual measurements deep down the soil when applying it. Thank you greatly!

Thanks for the education on yam planting methods. Can you please talk about when and how to water yam plants. There's hardly any mention of how and when to water yam plants.
Thanks for your request. Planting yams in heaps largely if not entirely, depends on natural rainfall. There is usually no need for extra watering except for the ones planted late in Aug and September. I have a video on growing yams all round the year. I will put the link down for you to see that later. However, for yams in sac, extra watering is highly needed even during the rainy season sometimes. You can depend entirely on the rainfall patterns in such a case. Kindly subscribe to our channel and click on your notification bell so that when I talk about that later, you will be aware. Thanks alot. th-cam.com/video/KF0VLJCJ00E/w-d-xo.html
First, ensure manure is 'cured'. No more toxic. Not fresh manure because this very toxic to plants. So if the manure is dried, u can mix some quantity with soil before loading in bags. Second, you can put manure on top of bag after planting. So as u water, it can wash the nutrients down for the roots. Thirdly, u can soak manure in a container and use the water as compost tea, dilute with water and wet the growing yams once a week or two. Follow us for more details.
1st is to apply a few grains (15 to 20) of the NPK scattered round the top of the bag. Repeat that every 2 wkks for 2 months. Second option is the dissolve about 20grms in about 5 litres of water and use it to wet one sack. Repeat that in two months
If it's manure, u can apply immediately after planting. But if it's NPK, I do that after germination (1-2months) after planting. It makes it available to the roots and not being washed away before the yams germinate. Note that organ favours the soil more, then the soil whereas NPK favors the crop and not the soil. For better results, combination of both is advised. All the best.
Please professor, good day. Please question; As we plant yam, When it's growing, if it grows out stem more than one, like 2, 3, 4 stems, someone said we should cut all the stem and remain just one. Is that right thing to do? What do you advise?
Good day doc. Am a beginner and i have not yet added any manure at all i was told i have to wait for 8 to 10weeks before applying any manure. How true is this? Secondly how do i know an acid free organic manure or should i just opt for inorganic? Thanks.
The earlier the better You can apply cured manure just the way I demonstrated just after planting, its even better so that the roots will grow into it later
If organic, you can apply immediately after planting, using the method demonstrated in the video. Even inorganic can be applied immediately too, but for maximum yield, I recommend 1 month after planting when yam has germinated, and 3rd month after planting. Pls follow my channel and click your notification bell so you can get my next video on exact timing! Cheers
I love you and may God bless you for knowledge you are passing

Any video yet on how water in sack and how yo apply fertilizer in sack? Thanks
There are videos on that already. Check out the compilation video of yams in sacks, all you need is there.

Alright, thanks alot
Thanks
Thanks sir 🎉
Thanks you, this is really useful
You can also make organic fertilizer from comfrey
So I heard. Really wish I can get it from around here in Nigeria. I would have really loved to try it out.😔
Good Job, can one apply liquid or wet organic fertiliser on yam in sack bags? What you applied is dry organic fertiliser in this video.
Yes. Through the process of fertigation. Check my short video. "Yam drinks coffee too"
Please can we apply the poultry manure to the soil even before making the mounds?
Yes.
Good day sir, am a yam farmer I applied my poultry manure at the top of the hip I planted mine already before seeing this video..

If the plant survived, then leave alone. May still help but next time try and use this method because of already stated reason.
Tnks sir can I have your WhatsApp contact for further assistance?
This is helpful thanks. How long after planting do you apply the organic manure?
Immediately is fine because it takes up to 2 weeks for organic manure to mineralize so that it can be available in the form plants can uptake.
@@Naturesheritagenetwork than you again this is helpful. Keep up the great work sir
Thank you sir
You are welcome

What if it's fresh dropping that has not been dried? Is it not possible to apply it and plant some days after? I mean the chicken manure specifically.
Better to use cured droppings without acidity
Thanks very much for this, please what time can we apply the fertilizer and how many times, is it once or twice
I prefer twice. One month after germination and at the 3rd month

@@Naturesheritagenetwork Thanks. Your tutorials are very enlightening. I appreciate your prompt response. Please, keep up the good work.

I really appreciate it.
Please how long are we supposed to leave the poultry dropping to cure it
3 to 4 weeks will do
When you spread the manure that way, don't you think it will be washed down by rainfall?
From my experience, it gets buried by few top soil being washed down by rainfall
Nice presentation Dr,how will you apply inorganic fert on yam in sacks
You have 2 options
1st is to apply a few grains (15 to 20) of the NPK scattered round the top of the bag. Repeat that every 2 wkks for 2 months.
Second option is the dissolve about 20grms in about 5 litres of water and use it to wet one sack. Repeat that in two months
And can it be left inside a bag and still be cured after some days?
Not days. Weeks to months

Wow thank you so much
When do you apply fertilizer to the yam ridge,is it immediately after planting, or does it have timing.
If it's manure, u can apply immediately after planting. But if it's NPK, I do that after germination (1-2months) after planting. Good morning, is this lateral sand
Yes
Where did you put npk fertilizer,is it at the base or the middle of the heap
Middle in holes sir.
Please professor, good day.
Please question;
As we plant yam, When it's growing, if it grows out stem more than one, like 2, 3, 4 stems, someone said we should cut all the stem and remain just one. Is that right thing to do?
What do you advise?
It's true. To get big tubers. If you leave all, you will have smaller tubers or even seed yams
@@Naturesheritagenetwork thank you for the advice.
But some yam crops produce 2 to 3 tubers , won't it affect the tubers from producing those numbers?
One vine can sometimes produce 2 or more tubers. Again not to err on the side of caution, you may just leave at most 2 most prominent sprouts.
@@Naturesheritagenetwork thank you so much, I will do as you advise

Any manure that has stayed 6months or thereabout will suffice.
The older the better
Can I use biochar with organic or inorganic manure with yam planted in sacks
Very well sir
@NATURE'S HERITAGE NETWORK Thank you sir
What time can the you apply the fertilizer?
After germination 1-2 months
You can also apply in the 4th month.
Is it good to apply poultry manure when yams are producing ?
You can. Around the heaps not too close to that developing tubers. It must not be fresh too.
Can the fertilizer be applied immediately after or there are days in-between planting and application?
