Just got one on Friday. My only beef was the paint on the grate- angle grinder with wire cup brush took care of that nicely. Another TH-camr flipped his grate over to keep round food from "escaping" over the rim. I welded a 2nd set of hooks on the "bottom", so I can try both ways. I did coax the shoes that ride the verticals to be a bit tighter to eliminate wiggle. Today is my first cook on it.
Thanks for sharing. Loin looked great. The South American way is to let the wood burn then break up into embers and cook over even embers without that open flame. Was really cool to see with an open flame here.
I absolutely love my Titan Great Outdoors Santa Maria.. I use it every other day.. Like you said, keeping the meat centered is key. The pork loins looked great.. #titangreatoutdoors
@@SmokedMidwestBBQ I measured it this morning and it's 22-1/2" inside to inside across...titan told me "if it's 24" - 25" it should fit"... don't know what a weber is across inside to inside...I may just get it and if it doesn't fit, try and find a used weber 22" for doing Santa Maria style cooking...thanks much!!!
Are you still liking this attachment? I was considering the Gabby Grill until I saw this. The titan is a good price point, but wondered if there’s a way to mount a rotisserie?
The hand 🤚🔥 technique is key. Someone once told me that holding hand over for 2-3 seconds is about 350 which is perfect for most cooks. I sometimes use my 18” jumbo joe lid to help speed it up. Especially with bigger cuts of meat. Recent video I did, I ended up covering the spatchcock chicken towards the end.
Totally agree! Super easy way to tell just how hot the temp is at the grate. Chicken on the Santa Maria grill is the best!! Thanks for watching and commenting. 🍻
Thanks man! I did look into Gabby Grill and they look awesome, however they were like $230. This one was $99. I’m sure the quality is better with Gabby Grills, but I couldn’t bring myself to pay over double the price.
@@SmokedMidwestBBQ we just took our time and adjusted the grate as needed. we had to build up a pretty substantial bed of wood coals. we were using pine
@@SmokedMidwestBBQ yeah man that’s okay. But it still doesn’t make it Santa Maria. Nor flavors of here. A lot of the flavor comes from the wood we use here on the central coast.
@@SmokedMidwestBBQ Yeah. Better move to Santa Maria and use red oak so megaasshole805 doesn't flag your video for misleading content! 🤣 Great video man!
Yeah, just like here in NC, we say you aren't smoking anything unless you are using hickory and traditional bbq is pork so everything is just cooking. 🙄 Dude, just because a thing isn't done in the exact traditional method doesn't mean it's not that thing. If you're going to use that logic, then you better make up different names for a shitload of things you do that don't adhere to traditional methods. The better alternative is to appreciate others acknowledging something from your culture instead of being snobbish/childish ....the latter is a slippery slope.
I guess it's okay if you're on an extreme budget AND you're okay with that wobbly as hell grate. For me personally, I'd rather save up and get a dedicated Santa Maria grill that is solid all around. With this you totally get what you pay for.
Extreme budget? How about I’m just not going to pay 3x the money for a different brand. I’m not trashing any other brand as I’m sure they are great, but I’m willing to put up with some minor grate wobble for $250 less. Paying more money doesn’t make the food taste better.
@@SmokedMidwestBBQ No reason to get defensive, it's simply how I roll. I used to be very happy with saving some money and dealing with some shortcomings of a cheaper product. After learning the hard way many times that cutting corners, and in this example having a wobbly grate, is something I no longer find acceptable. I personally would rather pay 3x, or even 10x, as much to get something high quality that will last a lifetime. But that's me, it's what I like and what I demand out of a product and it's something I'm willing to pay for. And yes, a better functioning grill does actually help you cook better which in turn makes the food taste better.
@@8654ZuluFoxtrot when he said paying more money doesn't make the food taste better, I think he was talking about the santa Maria grill in particular, and if that's what he ment than he is right on that. Paying extra money just to have a wobble fixed isn't gonna make your food taste better. But I have a little ocd so I would definitely pay extra to have that fixed.
@@timcox7912 Yeah, I think you’re right. And I most definitely have OCD when it comes to things like this and a wobble is something I could absolutely not put up with and I’d pay twice the money to get something that was solid all around.
@8654 Zulu Foxtrot and there are those who look at what you have and consider it absolute crap. Let your OCD kick in and spend your time replacing everything you own and even everything you are that is not top of the line. I know for a fact you don't own everything that's top of the line as those people don't spend time writing comments. I know for a fact you're not a top of the line chef for you'd know it isn't about the grill but the grill master. And I certainly know for a fact you don't have a top of the line personality since you admit you suffer from OCD. Personally, I'd spend 10 times, maybe 100 times more on a therapist because I couldn't tolerate having such a rickety wobbly personality.
Looks great. Do me a favor for your safety throw away the wire brush if you get a wire break off and you your family or friends eat your cooking and swallow a broken wire off they go to hospital for surgery. Not worth it !
Be careful if you buy a reduced price grill from this company. They lie regarding the extent of damage the item has. It's not minor dents or scratches, it's MAJOR DAMAGE.

Nice mods!! I’m going to do some mesquite grilled chicken on it today.
That's a pretty cool attachment. The tenderloins looked perfectly cooked. Nicely done
Thanks Mike! It’s a super cool attachment and it makes some excellent food. Chicken on it is amazing!

Those santa Maria attachments are pretty cool and that's a really good price. Pork tenderloin looked great Scott!
Thanks man! Yeah can’t beat that price and it’s super fun to use.
Would you recommend applying a light layer of cookkng oil to the entire grill before first use?
Applying cooking oil to the grate would be good to help from the meat sticking to it, for sure.
I always grab the middle piece as well 😁
It’s the best!

Thanks for letting me know about this grill Joe! When used properly the food is amazing!
Do you know what the grate is made of?
I think it’s steel, not sure of the thickness.
@@SmokedMidwestBBQ thank you! Does it appear to be coated with something?
From Santa Maria! You need a bigger rectangular one, it’s amazing when you cook tri tip and oak wood!
Yes! The flavor from the Santa Maria grill is so amazing.
Where did you find one for $99????
I bought it directly from the Titan website, that was about 5-6 years ago.
How do you cool the heat when you are done?
I take off the attachment and out the lid back on to choke out the coals.
That's a really good question. Never thought about how to put out the fire
got 1 coming now scott. almost went gabbys grill. . but i like the wheel on this one , other then the door latch ..
Nice! It’s pretty awesome for the price. Fun to cook on as well.
Anyone tried this unit on an SNS kettle? I contacted Titan but they weren't much help...
If it’s a 22” I would assume it will fit.

I just measured the inside lip of the Santa Maria grill and it was 21 7/8” so you should be good. 👌🏻
How do you keep it/store it outside?
I have a cover that I ordered from the pit boss website. It has help up very well.
You don't remove the silver skin.????
I don’t think it’s essential or really has an impact on the end result. I know some disagree, just my opinion.

You shouldn’t cook on raw wood, using the ambers is ideal, or else you’re eating tree sap and too much smoke
I disagree, if seasoned hardwood is being used. I see no issue with that.
