I'm so glad anime existed. Never fails to distract me from the negativity of the environment I'm in right now. It makes me forget the negative thoughts building up inside me; at least temporarily. But that short time keeps me sane, track myself and think. So thankful I discovered this long before. I enjoyed it during my best times and appreciate this during my down times.
I disagree, the mc saw the parallel of a scene he has seen many times over in his life, and he finds it slightly amusing how he still had a slight hope that she would be waiting for him. Probably thinking along the lines of "of course not"
No matter how many times I came back here, no matter what year I always came here, the old good memories made me in tear. The days that I am still just a junior high school, when I was enjoy my life with my friends who love anime, now it is all only memories. Ahhhhh I've never been as hurt by any anime ending as much as in this one, every single anime out there almost, always ends with a satisfying ending even after all the struggles, but oh Lord this one stays grounded to reality and teaches us that not everything our heart wants is always what is given to us in the end. The guy literally is so unhappy and regretful with his current life and still yearns for the girl whom he has shared priceless memories, who ironically is already happy with her current life has obviously moved on from "those memories" which is what makes it even more so painful to watch. I'm hurt but definitely the movie is just undeniably one of a kind, truly a masterpiece even though it broke my heart in the end.

Actually, this film embodies the story of my life , we met when we were 6 , we lived priceless memories together for 2 years , he moved and promised to come back, i've waited for years, i went seeking for him but always fail to meet him until we were 21 i was crossing the street i felt his presence i looked and i saw him and recognize him since the first second but he went his way and never looking back. He was living happy life traveling, dating , everything but i was trapped in those memories and that broken promise. i don't blame him neither me but it hurts so much. now we are 26 and we lived in different countries , we never met since we were 8. i don't even know what was these feelings that cosumed me all these years, i can't say it's love , it was just inexplicable feelings ...

I watched it too. Also, all of this anime reminds of the horrible endings it have. At least Clannad is better than 5cm per second since in the end the male mc and the female mc got a child and the child ended up dieing too. Well, there goes our favourite MCs'.

So glad ‘Your Name’ came out. It felt like a sequel. I just imagine to myself these two souls reincarnated as Mitsuha and Aki. I saw this masterpiece 9 months before Your Name came out and I cried tears of sadness. I really wanted to hug him so bad and telling him all will be well. So when Your Name came out and unexpectedly gave me that ‘ending scene’, I felt chills ran through me and cried tears of joy. I felt so warm and happy inside. ❤

Gosh, the japanese animation is superb... is superior when the issue is traditional animation. Even using the computer in large scale, even so, is really superb. The western animation can't follow! SUPERIOR, SUPERB, AWESOME!
I'm still remember back at days on 2013, while I search movie "5 Cm" from my country, then I found this anime, and I download it. Back then, I don't know at all about Japan animation, so I guess this is really wrong download. But, I ended up watching it, and feels amazing with the art and the story is so sad. After that I re-watch it for so many times and got my heart broken so many times.... And I'm also watch many anime from that time, but this movie always have special place on my heart. Now in 2020, I'm still attached to this movie, while in reality I'm also three times got involved with long distance relationship, and all of them ended with broken heart for me... __ p.s sorry if my English is bad.

Finally I found this again after 7yrs!! I stop listening to this after my old laptop broke. And gradually forgetting it as time passed by. It’s so nostalgic as someone send me this song 7yrs ago (and we’re like that too, we lost contact for about a few yrs and just recently got connected again). I don’t watch the movie yet bcs it have a sad ending, I’m scared I can’t handle it, but I’ll someday..
The divorce abruptly came in late 2019 and gutted me. Was forced to sell the home and only see the kids on the weekends. My job went to furlough because of bankruptcy the next month and then Covid hit. It was was very dark times. The thought of ending it came several times. But the thought of my children pulled me through it. I did several things to help keep my sanity. Returning to anime helped me. Anime songs like this helped me. I was an OG fan back in the day of anime but getting married and having kids pretty much had me dropping off things I used to love including anime. It’s strange and comforting the things I used to love when I was single helped pull back from the brink.

Making good friends really helps, you can talk about your problems if you want, or simply just to have fun and laugh your problems away, it helps a lot in moving on with your life. I relate to this as much as i do. We became friends, I became a lover, I loved him in the dark and we just...grew apart. Instantly. Unexpectedly. Mysteriously. I cant forget him, it still aches. Distance sucks, but maybe what make it hurts is the unspeakable feeling between those two. This anime strangely depict my story really well. When I first watched this anime 2 years ago, I cried because it reminds me of my childhood crush as my story is really same until the 2nd story (he moves to faraway region after elementary, the way he came back to my city when we're in shs). I'm afraid that my story will end up like this anime. Now, we're both graduated from college, still in contact but the distance is also remains. many years after i watched this movie, i think i realize now that the ending was the best for the guy, now he has closure and he can move on. he now knows that akari has moved on so he can too. :) beautiful but sad

Its kind of clear in the manga that it was just a figment of his imagination, and what convinces him to move on. They hold a small "Conversation" in the manga, she tells him he'll be alright if he moves on. After he does, it shows her as a young girl waving goodbye to him, symbolizing the image he had of her finally leaving his thoughts. Still made me cry though. Its implied he got together with the other girl at the end of it though. Copied this from my other comment. The ending made me super sad so I read the ending of the manga for more closure and it definitely softens the blow.
The last scene really shows the difference in two even if that girl was the one she didn't wait showing she has completely move on has a better life while the guy still waiting but maybe that smile was the indication that its time to move on
I'm so glad anime existed. Never fails to distract me from the negativity of the environment I'm in right now. It makes me forget the negative thoughts building up inside me; at least temporarily. But that short time keeps me sane, track myself and think. So thankful I discovered this long before. I enjoyed it during my best times and appreciate this during my down times.

Ahhhhh I've never been as hurt by any anime ending as much as in this one, every single anime out there almost, always ends with a satisfying ending even after all the struggles, but oh Lord this one stays grounded to reality and teaches us that not everything our heart wants is always what is given to us in the end. The guy literally is so unhappy and regretful with his current life and still yearns for the girl whom he has shared priceless memories, who ironically is already happy with her current life has obviously moved on from "those memories" which is what makes it even more so painful to watch. I'm hurt but definitely the movie is just undeniably one of a kind, truly a masterpiece even though it broke my heart in the end.

Actually, this film embodies the story of my life , we met when we were 6 , we lived priceless memories together for 2 years , he moved and promised to come back, i've waited for years, i went seeking for him but always fail to meet him until we were 21 i was crossing the street i felt his presence i looked and i saw him and recognize him since the first second but he went his way and never looking back. I watched it too. Also, all of this anime reminds of the horrible endings it have. At least Clannad is better than 5cm per second since in the end the male mc and the female mc got a child and the child ended up dieing too. Well, there goes our favourite MCs'.

I'm still remember back at days on 2013, while I search movie "5 Cm" from my country, then I found this anime, and I download it. Back then, I don't know at all about Japan animation, so I guess this is really wrong download. But, I ended up watching it, and feels amazing with the art and the story is so sad. After that I re-watch it for so many times and got my heart broken so many times.... And I'm also watch many anime from that time, but this movie always have special place on my heart.
Now in 2020, I'm still attached to this movie, while in reality I'm also three times got involved with long distance relationship, and all of them ended with broken heart for me...

The divorce abruptly came in late 2019 and gutted me. Was forced to sell the home and only see the kids on the weekends. My job went to furlough because of bankruptcy the next month and then Covid hit. It was was very dark times. The thought of ending it came several times. But the thought of my children pulled me through it. I did several things to help keep my sanity. Returning to anime helped me. Anime songs like this helped me. I was an OG fan back in the day of anime but getting married and having kids pretty much had me dropping off things I used to love including anime. It’s strange and comforting the things I used to love when I was single helped pull back from the brink.
I read your comment, it worth what it worth but I can tell you life can be long and let plenty of time to recover and find hapiness again. I'm glad anime and OST helped you out and I'm confident that other things or people will do to. I'm rooting for you, be strong, and good luck on your way to be the best father :)
I understand what you are going through, having a divorce myself. Hang in there! Making good friends really helps, you can talk about your problems if you want, or simply just to have fun and laugh your problems away, it helps a lot in moving on with your life. After all, what matters is the present, the future, but not the past. It's all good man.

I am in that exact situation right now.. I cried the night when I called her since she was not messaging nor calling to me for three months straight... She answered "Who is this? Do I know you?" , when she always called me by my phone.. I immediately realized that she already deleted my phone number on her phone.. While I was asking how is she doing, she suddenly dropped the call and blocked my phone number... I know that was the end.. I came into realization that not everything that we wanted or loved will stay with us.. Right now, I am making myself busy by studying, teaching young people about different subjects and watching animes.. Although it is still painful, I believe I can get over her..

Distance sucks, but maybe what make it hurts is the unspeakable feeling between those two. This anime strangely depict my story really well. When I first watched this anime 2 years ago, I cried because it reminds me of my childhood crush as my story is really same until the 2nd story (he moves to faraway region after elementary, the way he came back to my city when we're in shs). I'm afraid that my story will end up like this anime. Now, we're both graduated from college, still in contact but the distance is also remains. @@elizabethmarak7623SPOILERS FOR MANGA. Just to clarify, the anime and manga endings are vastly different. This one leads you to believe they actually passed by each other, but they didn't. Its kind of clear in the manga that it was just a figment of his imagination, and what convinces him to move on. They hold a small "Conversation" in the manga, she tells him he'll be alright if he moves on. After he does, it shows her as a young girl waving goodbye to him, symbolizing the image he had of her finally leaving his thoughts. Still made me cry though. Its implied he got together with the other girl at the end of it though.
Copied this from my other comment. The ending made me super sad so I read the ending of the manga for more closure and it definitely softens the blow.
