Hi! Thanks for playing FCN, I’m the owner of the mod and it’s always great to see people giving it a play! If you’re looking for people to battle, we’re always hosting ones in the discord, and I’m usually up for a game myself too. Great video!
@@tomosjackson4760 yes, it does, as the game was made only for armies to be 20 units max - FCN lets you take up 45 units max, so it’s no wonder it’s so confused. Also, we change a lot of things such as adding Fog of War (to make people scout), and of course one of the main banes for the AI, we made all units have to walk most of the match by raising fatigue, to stop people from running their armies like everyone does in vanilla Napoleon. The AI was coded to run their men, so despite us trying to fix it a bit, it usually will still do that, which means not only will you see their entire army through the Fog of War, but their entire army will arrive very tired. There are literally millions of things that make the AI a little bit worse with every change between NTW and FCN - if you think of something in the game and something our mod changes, that one change has somehow (even if it’s not related) made the AI a little worse and a little more confused. We’ve tried for a while to make the AI better, and to be fair, it is better than it was by some amount, but as a rule of thumb, AI in total war will ALWAYS be far far dumber than any player - which is why we made most our stuff for multiplayer, because you will almost always get a better game with other people.
@@tomosjackson4760 the ai was never designed to operate such a large army, and to be fair every mod (including darth mod which has improved ai) has the same issues. I’m also using an earlier version, FCN 6.1, because it has different units in campaign rather than the standard vanilla units. So I’m sure the current version 8.0 would perform better as well.
The lag isn’t that bad considering I’m also running 2 OBS recordings, and I found out that steam was also creating a back up game recording. I’ve found that the lag is unplayable when you start to hit 20k men per army. But yes it also does add a bit of a delay in orders, which is realistic!
This video is proof that CA got it wrong. They keep making graphics and animations fancier, but battles smaller and more arcadey. What you need is to make TW epic again, by focusing on the 00s dream: big realistic battles. Forget the graphics, give me NTW graphics in a modern engine, but that can handle 40K per army. That's what I want.
Understandable why, micromanaging would be nightmarish if the player controls tens of thousands of men. It's the reason why commanders have sub commanders in real life. Napoleon never micromanaged the Grandee Armee, he had his Marshals help carry out his orders. Kinda hard to do that in-game, only NTW3 is the closest thing that we get for a realistic 18-19th century warfare experience
@@imgvillasrc1608 FCN mods allows that to do perfectly. Of course the micro would be harder, that's why it is more important to focus on big unit group rather than the positionning of individual units.
@@imgvillasrc1608 No, it's not understandable at all. In fact if there's one thing heavy modding has shown me is that you could double the amount of troops on your command and have an even better experience. The key? SLOWER AND MORE REALISTIC BATTLES instead of the ultrafast arcade b$ in which your units move fast and die quickly. Also, bigger units allows better multiplayer experience, if they dared to expand the campaign multiplayer mechanics allowing for players dividing the work in either PVE or PVP. The only thing you need to do is change the campaign mechanics to have less battles, but more meaningful and decisive ones. It could be done by mixing it with a bit of Paradox.
I mean, that’s kinda authentic to how Napoleon’s enemies were before they completely reorganized their armies and started applying Napoleon’s tactics to their own armies. Lol
I have been playing NTW for as long as it has been out and I have never seen anything like this. Insane scale, camera angles, and the resolution has been polished! Amazing!
What total war games needs to be fully realistic is not entirely on graphics improvement but on AI. Smart AI that can utilize formations effectively and present solid lines like a normal person would. I mean look at the blob, how can you present a solid firepower with that kind of front?
there is no such possibility of an accurate tw experience until you introduce supply lines/baggage. until you do that, you have mobs of humans just showing up, firing and receiving without any feasible sustenance or logistical framework. as many other fans have said, CA needs to focus on these aspects, more than the off-battle dialings.
This video shows what the potential of total war is, its just that CA has pivoted to focusing on the wrong things instead of giving us larger battles, smarter AI, etc. I would easily trade all of the improvements they made on the campaign side for the battles to be improved in these ways.
This was a very well put together video, extremely fun battle to watch. Like you say, the artillery didn't end up being a game changer and the ai seems to leave a lot to be desired but it was enjoyable nonetheless. :)
the problem i have with having more than 20 units on each side is the opposing side's ai becomes incompetant, you see it when the austrians just kind of awkawrdly move in and out like they did, they just never maintain order and often shoot themselves with artillery loads.
I made a tutorial video on how you can do it yourself! Only update to that is I’ve been using FCN 6.1 (it has campaign support) as I’ve found it’s a lot more stable than NTW3 because of the number of units and the buggy Ui. Good grief, fun video but the AI is so, so bad in NTW. Quite possibly the worst battle AI in the whole TW series. You see it do all its usual shenanigans here. It can't form lines and does that pointless shuffling again and again. The game is fundamentally broken, whether modded or not.
