Nice video! I play the flute here in Brazil and, to simplify this song, I usually use pentatonics first: A minor and C major and C# minor and E major pentatonics. And from there, lots of other options such the dominant bebop scale of each major scale (G dominant bebop and A dominant bebop). I find amazing what you said about harmonic direction! The first phrase over C major is very similar to exactly like you played by django in 1939
