      No, he doesn’t mean that. He means that the max pressure, determined by the tire manufacturer, is the most pressure the tire is designed to handle before you risk compromising its structural integrity. Operating pressure, determined by the car manufacturer, is the ideal pressure the tires should be inflated to for that specific vehicle. The same model of tire can go on many different vehicles, and the same tire may need to be at 35 on one vehicle and 32 on another. By inflating to the max pressure, you leave no room for the tires to warm up and the air, and therefore pressure, inside to expand.

    When my car gave me a warning message low tire pressure. I decided to fix it myself this time. So I watched your video, went to a gas station and filled all my four tires to 51 psi, which is the max. Then I called my boyfriend to brag about it, which scared him to death. He asked me to drive as slow as I can to a nearest gas station and release all four to 32, which I did. Boys and girls, if it is your first time to fill air in your tire, do not trust this video please. NEVER fill to the maximum!

  • @wheezin_mtnbkr3576
    @wheezin_mtnbkr3576 8 ปีที่แล้ว +464

    Tire Psi is determined by the weight of the vehicle, the manufacturer of the car did the math and the correct pressure is in the door jam. The pressure on the tire is the max pressure the tire can handle, but because the tire manufacturer has no idea what car the tire is going on, they cannot provide you the optimum pressure for a specific vehicle. The number on the side wall of the tire is to warn you that if your door jam sticker requires a higher psi than the max pressure the tire can handle - then your tire is not strong enough for this car.

    • @humanentity2214
      @humanentity2214 7 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      TheSolitaryObserver absolutely correct. the correct vehicle tire pressure is on the driver door at the bottom and that should be used, not the one on the tire

    NEVER inflate your tires to the max psi that is an accident just waiting to happen, especially at highway speeds. You always inflate to the recommended pressure, which is usually between 30 and 35 psi at most.

    *********
    Don't listen to this guy. Car tires should NOT BE filled to max psi. This can be extremely dangerous as you are decreasing the contact patch of the tire tread on the road. This can cause you to lose control of your vehicle!!!!
    There are a few situations where you would fill tires to max psi. Trailers tires are one example of this

    • @jacquelinelundell1090

    Also note that you shouldn't trust the gas station tire pump's readings. Always use your personal gauge first before heading out. If your trusted gauge reads 28 and the station's gauge reads 26 but your rec tire pressure is 33, just pump it up to 31 at the gas station. Then use your own gauge to see if the tires are at 33.
    Just saying.

  • @SebastianTysler
    @SebastianTysler 9 ปีที่แล้ว +151

    You should inflate the tires not according to max what they can handle but according to what your car manufacturer wrote on the side of the driver's door. It is usually 32PSI (in all cars that I have seen so far).

    • @SebastianTysler
      @SebastianTysler 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    It's better to bring your own air PSI gauge (Mine cost $2.50 at a local auto store) to measure since some of the gas station's air pumper's psi gauge either doesn't do accurate measurement or it got stuck.

  • @zayyaf09
    @zayyaf09 10 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    44 psi is max pressure not operating pressure.
    32-34 psi is operating pressure, will be written in your owners manual or on the sticker on the side of your door.

    • @JinSaysHello
      @JinSaysHello 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      what if the tires are not OEM?. The owner manual or sticker does not say anything about non-OEM tires. What if he happen to get a much thinner tire with bigger wheels? or vice versa.

    • @appuit
      @appuit 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      JinSaysHello Any after market tire of similar size will follow that posted in manufacturer sticker. example:Toyota corolla 2008 stcker says P195/65R15 operating pressure 30 psi for front & rear. Spare T125/70R16 60 psi.
      So always consult with car manufacturer or tire manufacturer about operating pressure for different size/thin/thick/big tires.

    ATTENTION!!! ATTENTION!!! READ THIS POST.
    This video contains false information. You should NEVER fill your tires to the max inflation pressure specified on the tire. When a tire is driven on, the air pressure inside increases and having a pressure more than the max pressure specified for the tire can cause TIRE FAILURE.
    The correct air pressure for most vehicles can be found on a sticker located on the driver's side door sill.
    For most vehicles this pressure will be about 32-34 psi.
    To the video creator, please get your facts straight before you go spreading MISINFORMATION, which in this case also happens to be DANGEROUS.

    lol thanks for the video but you should know that the max PSI is what the tyre can handle not what you should fill close to. Always ONLY fill to the recommended PSI. Also only measure the PSI and fill when your car's tyres are coool otherwise your PSI will be falsely high.

    Correct tire pressure of your vehicle is always in the door jam not based of the sidewalk of your tire. Sidewall of your tire will give the max psi you inflate your tires to if ever needed which is never. And the sticker in the door jam will give the best tire pressure for a comfortable ride.

    Don't fill your air to the max. The manufacturer recommended inflation is on the inside on your car door on the left side where you sit. It's risky to drive with too much air in your tires.

    So it seems I am an idiot, I wasted time trying to screw the nozzle onto the tire- too used to bicycle pumping :/ Good video though, gets straight to the point!

    That's great but I've NEVER seen one of those gauges work AT ALL, never pops out a millimeter, but every time I've gotten to a gas station I have to get whatever pressure I can, and in NJ these stations are such crap I've never found one with selectable pressure I can go back to, easier when I lived in FL- nice stations with better equipment

  • @MrMcbear
    @MrMcbear 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Doing it wrong. The tire pressure you're supposed to use with your particular vehicle is on the door frame when you open it. You never fill it up to the "max psi" displayed on the tire. That will cause over-inflation and bad tire wear. It varies car to car and truck. but generally it's 32psi for majority of passenger cars. 35psi for most minivans and SUVs. Full size trucks. Heavy duties and E series vans usually take 55 front and 60 rear but they use LT tires which have a stiffer sidewall to handle weight.

    You are wrong about putting the maximum air that's marked on the tire, the right amount is the number on the sticker between the door of your driver side of vehicle, just a correction and not a put down!

    Thank you for this. I have a brand-new Honda Fit, and after only a few months, all the tires have lost pressure and need air. At Firestone they told me it was likely because of the weather turning cold. Okay, if you call 55-60 degrees cold.

    • @jukijunk
      @jukijunk 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      annabelle2ful
      Well colder climates does decrease your cars tire pressure, and vise versa in hot climates. So if you are not keeping your tire pressure in check monthly and winter/fall hits, you might see your TPMS light go on. Either way they should still have checked your tire pressure for you lol
