This kills all desire for all other poly synths for me. That keyboard can do so much more interesting AND musical shit than any top tier mod matrix or whatever is in other keyboards. The playing is so dynamic and human sounding while also being able to still be otherworldly. Well done Expressive E
I followed my instincts and pre-ordered one in Oct 2019…I'll simply say I'm glad I did…Not least cause now I have it the multi-fingered control necessary to control (let alone musically 'PLAY') this instrument is clearly going to make me a MUCH better keyboard (and Piano) player.
I love the natural, acoustic like response and tone of the sounds. They seem to integrate the hardware and software so well to make an instrument and not just a keyboard with cheesy after-effects.
This is a demo of an instrument inspiring and supporting your creativity. This is something that most other demos fail to do and Jack is demonstrating something few can do live.
there are a few videos out there showing some inspiring use of it. but you are right, they are seldom. most people play it like a piano with some wiggling. i think, this can (and should) be approached with modified technique. i am so hot to try this 😊
What we need is a keyboard the obliterates hip-hop and to rap so we get our melodies, articulate lyrics, diverse rhythms and most of all positivity and sense of fun back! Oh well, we can dream. 😞
The keyboard engine, how it mods and shapes sounds works great as shown in the fretless bass patch. Patches tested sound like they’ve all been gone through a bit crusher, would love to hear a clean acoustic guitar patch.
And, and it's multitimbral with the editor you can position 2 or 3 voices in a row within the editor and combine them into a single patch to be stored back into memory. I bought (2) for a double manual.
Very cool video guys, really interesting to see how this keyboard reacts with all the different touches that you give it. I would love to have one of these beasts in my little home studio!!!🎹🤜💥🤛
Super expensive here but I think is worth it. I have no real need for it as I have an E touche` You love this and it shows. You love dat phat bass That's right, you're not a shill, you're just chill. Thx for the upload Jack n Falcon.
Really really interesting keyboard. Think it will imbue any digital patch with an analogueness just by virtue of the fact you'll get a natural pitch drift from the slight difference in position with which you strike the keys. Assuming it outputs MPE, pairing it up with something like equator or pigments would be killer.
Would love to hear this using 3rd party software instruments, like session strings from Spitfire or similar. Just to see how natural the pitch bend, aftertouch etc responds to other instruments not part of the hardware presets. Regardless, I’m ordering one of these. No turning back. 😅
Waaaaaay off topic, but didn't know where else to do this 'video request' ..... How about doing a video on the best keyboard for gigging/working live. In truth, I'd like to see a shootout between the Yamaha YC series and the Nord electro and /or Stage 3. The criteria for me is: - ease of switching between sounds/patches (both have minuscule displays) - how easy it is to control/tweak patches on the fly - ease of finding and changing to different patches - I don't think that the weight is actually an issue - there's always someone to give you a hand if needed. - How easy is it to set up patches by a particular song (I know the Nord can, but not sure about Yamaha YCs - playing samples for the weird sounds
As someone who's not producer or a professional musician (meaning I mostly play instruments for my own enjoyment) I think that boot up time test should be a standard in keyboard reviews. Because ain't nothing more frustrating than having a musical idea in your head, rushing to your keyboard to test it, and having to wait for the sound to come on. Or, even worse (and as it is often the case for me), turning off the keyboard because you feel like you're done, then having a spur of inspiration, and going back to your keyboard only to wait for it to turn back on (something that made me prize the auto turn off function on these instruments). I mean we kinda understand that something like a workstation, basically a mini computer system, would take some time to boot up, but the thing is it's also a problem that happens with the cheap digital pianos that only have like a couple sounds. It's something that frustrate me so bad that I sometime considered if I should buy an acoustic guitar and restart learning an instrument again for the sole purpose of always having an instrument around with which I can explore my ideas as quickly as they appear. Yeah, I'm aware that acoustic pianos exist, but I frankly don't have the means to buy (and care) for one that would suit my sonic requirements. Maybe once one of these manufacturers start to notice it's something people truly care about, and start to make efforts in that direction, others will follow suit and progress will be made across the board.
i had a discusion longtime ago on a roland forum about roland has drop there afterthouch on many keyboards while at that time the amazing rolisea boards came up..... just mention to roland to give option on there standaard keybeds (stage/synths)to make continiues velocity possible on/off and as upgrade afterthouch avialble for every indepent key.... with gives a huge ammount of controll options for live playing.... Nobody took this idea as possitief and now osmose got it LOL
Clearly Jack and the Falcon are digging this machine. :) My only question is about the keybed. I've seen on the soniclab guy's page discussion and overview videos that they mentioned the keyboard is a bit stiff. It makes sense if the AT is (as it appears to me anyway) tied drectly into key throw right from the get-go. I doubt the Osmose is as stiff to play as the Roli Seaboards (though those controllers alow for direct note to note sliding) but I was wondering..... as compared to a "normal" keyboard,... How stiff are the keys compared to a standard synth action keyboard?
It does sound amazing and that last bass patch was just the best. I wish someone would show how to create patches from scratch and how easy/difficult that is. Apparently it's only got 128 user slots for presets.
Look up EaganMatrix programming tutorials - that's the synth engine in the Osmose, so although the existing tutorials will be based around the Haken Continuum, the desktop/app editor for the Osmose will probably be very similar.
It's absurdly hard relative to most other synths. Definitely a whole new beast. The EagenMatrix is probably the most complicated synth you'll ever try and use, but if you've got a brain for complexity and don't mind diving into some maths you'll be able to get your head around it. That being said, even if you get bored of the factory presets this is still going to be an amazing MPE controller.
As a Nord user I had more expectations in the synth engine of the osmose, I feel the synth pads and mallets are kind of similar to Spectrasonics Omnisphere .
As only a keyboard dabbler, I already have enough trouble with getting consistent velocity sometimes. (Depending on the patch & velocity curve.) All this pushing the expressiveness of keyboards is going to make keyboards as hard to learn as every other instrument. 😂 Although I guess there’s still the option to turn off all the extra features for those of us who still need training wheels.
you have full adjustment over pitch bend, pressure and aftertouch amounts/curves.. most of the time unintentional modulation is more like a happy accident anyway
It’s a great idea & execution. My only worry comes from my experience playing an EWI - the programming that goes into integrating the unique key bed design is super cool, but it also is very complex and means you really are only getting the full experience with sounds that come from the keyboard, meaning you’re either a really good synth programmer that is gonna invest a lot of time & energy in designing sounds via the onboard synth engines or you have a lot of faith/trust in the sound design choices made in the presets. Btw everyone, Arturia just released the MiniFreak as a soft synth.
The EWI is a digital version of an acoustic wind instrument similar to what a standard synth is to a piano. Osmose goes even further by simulating the note bending and modulation directly with each individual finger movement.
While the internal EaganMatrix sounds are extremely polished and sound incredible, you can also use the Osmose with any MPE compatible software/hardware. The only thing I think you might miss out on in MPE mode, and I could be wrong here, would be the pressure-weighted portamento. But polyphonic aftertouch, pressure and note bending should be available across all MPE devices.
@@LunicussOfficial Would love to see a video of the Osmose in use with other standard VST synths. Does the hyper sensitive note velocity trigger properly in other synths via midi?

The sound engine is a bit of a let down for me personally and having to tweak everything on my computer is meh, using it as just a MPE controller doesn't justify the price with there being cheaper alternatives. So I not sure yet. I don't think many people will hang on to this one for long.
