Amazing repair and great video !! Thanks.
One of my first cars was a Saab 96 V4, which I drove daily for more than 8 years. Upper edge (!) of both rear fenders rusted (in the corner towards the body), but otherwise rust free. Front wheel drive and with the weight of the engine & gearbox on the 155/15 tyres, made it perfect on snowy winter roads. The Saab 96 was very common in Sweden, but we got a lot of attention when my wife and I together with two friends made a holiday trip through Germany/France (with 62 hp, and agreed maximum cruising speed 100 km/h). Four adults, suitcases and camping equipment went well with some planning. It had done 230'000 km(!), still in good condition, when I sold it to my wife's younger brother. Shortly thereafter, he rolled and put the Saab on the roof. All escaped unscathed, but it was the end of our beloved and missing Saab 96 V4.
I have been ovner of Saab 96 V4, Saab 9-5, Saab 9-3, all great cars! ❤👍😅
    Take Care and Merry Christmas

Love SAAB. Have had all kinds of SAAB's in the driveway since 1977 until today.

Awesome episode! I have my grandfathers 96 that he bought new in 1975. Had a few 900 and 9000 over the years and currently drive a 2004 9-3. As long as there are any left I will be driving a Saab. :)

What an absolutely outstanding restoration project and a lovely to watch video
As a young Sunderland shipbuilder I listened to a few lads who extolled the virtue of the car they owned at any one time. I didn’t know how to decide on which was the “ best” car but wasn’t impressed by the respective arguments
One day we wandered into Les Allen’s Saab garage where I saw a promotional of a Saab being dropped on its roof from 6 ft above ground, (1.8M), and whilst the roof was flattened the strength of the car meant that the pillars and doors remained in tact and the occupants would be unharmed
I became addicted to Saab and soon began to appreciate the engineering like impact absorbing bumpers, side impact protection and bonnets that opened from the windscreen, not the front so in a head in impact the bonnet would be more likely to stay closed and add strength to the front of the car. Heated seats and headlight wipers seemed unnecessary to me but a Swede explained that in the severe winters and frequently degraded winter roads, they really were a godsend.
My first Saab was a 96 with a V4 Ford Taunus engine followed by a 99. That were both outstanding cars and I was so disappointed to see the end of production.
In those day’s procurement of parts was often difficult and even standard British parts like Girling and Lockheed were much more expensive when bought from a Saab dealer
But this lovely video made me wish I still had a 96.
Thank you very much for the video and a heartfelt well done for the superb restoration.

I own a 97 9000 CSE it is a wonderful car! Recently I got to drive a 74 96. It was a complete wreck but it still ripped down the road it made me laugh for a hour strait! If you can make a car like this makes me laugh it is a great car. I would have a good set of wheels on it!! And he was spot on! On the interior!!

My late uncle owned one, the same year and colour. He bought it new from Phil Wilks Garage in the north east. Like Phil, his son Guy became a very successful rally driver. Another successful SAAB driver of that era was Jack Tordoff, with his reg JCT 600, who went on to run many car dealerships.
Not too sure of the details, but the Ford V4 engines were sourced from either Dagenham or Cologne and they could be identified by the position of the distributor (remember those??). One was at the front of the V and t'other at the back end. Anyone have more info on this? Watching many RAC rallies in the 60s and 70s when SAABs were very successful, their service barges carried a long pole with a big 5 bolt flange and that was used to fasten to the rear brake drums to straighten the rear axle when it was bent after many hard landings. Happy days.
Close to where I live, a local driver still has a LHD SAAB 900 Turbo, originally brought to the UK for Ola Stromberg and we see it out and about and maybe on the entry list for the Roger Albert Rally this year.

This SAAB 96 V4 in the wonderful color Y9 - Brilliant Yellow and it was one of the colors that stood out on the SAAB 95/96/99 in 1973 and was replaced by Indish Yellow (orange) in 1974, which became the factory rally colors of SSR - SAAB SPORT&RALLY. (1975 Opal green) I myself have had 3 SAAB 96 V4s in 1973 in this particular colour. Since 1977 I have owned about 50 SAAB 95/96 and about 30 other SAAB models. From SAAB 2-stroke 1964 - SAAB 9-3 2,0 turbo 2003 + approx. 30-40 other car brands. (When I had my first Brilliant Yellow SAAB 96 in the early 80's, I was nicknamed the "Yellow danger") Regards LAZZEV4 😉 By the way, NEVER change the original color of a SAAB 95/96/97/99/900/9000 as it decreases in value. An original SAAB is most sought after by SAAB people.

Love the bright yellow color the best. I've had tons of SAABs & my brothers as well. One bro had a yellow '73. Was super jealous!
Our 1st. 96 Dad bout was a light yellow '67 3-cyl. That color is equally pretty but I never saw another one that color.
      Great knowledge you have Lars!

Lol. You came to the auction with the SAAB but had forgotten to fit the door mirrors. 🤭

In Holland there are some that go for more than 10 grand, meaning normal editions.
Very special editions (96 Monte Carlo) go for 14 grand, if immaculate.

Wow. My very first car was a used 1969 Saab 96 in a lovely beige. And now, seeing this… I do believe I want to find another!
