i watched it completely for the first time last night because we have auditions for it this week, and as soon as "chip on my shoulder" started, all i could think of was "I NEED THAT EMMETT IN MY LIFE. I NEED THIS STORYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY"

He did a terrific work! He's a perfect Emmett, sweet, funny, he has a great voice and is a very good actor.

If you’re just being respectful so you can “get the hot blond chick”, that isn’t respect and you don’t deserve any woman. Saying that actually does a disservice to Emmett as a character, because he only falls for her when he sees that she is tenacious and smart.
Definitely bad use of words, I think that what they did with Emmet was wonderful and does not align at all with what the writer said, Emmet was the only one who did not judge and treat Elle decently just because she is a human being and deserves respect and they fall in love after spending time together, I think that the fact that Emmet doesn't judge and treat people well is what makes us like the character and that he fits so well with Elle

I love Christian's Emmett so much its unreal. I love how they allowed this version of Emmett be just...a guy. Hes not a super (conventionally) hot sexy dude, hes literally just a guy. Hes a normal guy who was the only one who treated Elle with respect.
He was able to see past their socioeconomic differences and just saw a girl who was underestimated just like he was too. Just like how no one thought he would make it because he was poor and plain, no one thought Elle would make it because shes rich and blonde.
Thats why "So Much Better" is so so incredibly satisfying, because thanks to Emmett's help and encouragement, she got over Warner's reject and celebrated HERSELF. Her big victory wasn't getting the guy, her victory was her being more than even she thought she could be. And Elle proposing to Emmett at the very end of the show and saving their kiss for the end was just the cherry on top of everything. She graduated at the top of her class, she's accomplished everything everyone said she wouldn't, and she just happened to fall in love with a guy along the way. Their love was just a bonus ontop of Ellen's victory.

For my part (1) Christian Borle is amazing, yes BUT (2) Jerry Mitchell (!) thank you so much for your point. If guys would treat girls with an ounce of respect maybe some things would go there. Just my opinion.

It's true. I am not the best looking guy and I'm not ripped but I have gotten every dream chick Ive wanted (other than celebs obviously). Girls have left UT rich frat guys to be with me. Including my current girlfriend. My story is so similar to Emmets and Im tall and slim like him too. 😂
Just know how to be cool. Being nice helps, knowing how to speak and talk to girls and get inside their head helps more. Also it helps to be realistic, I'm not thor but I'm also not pizza faced lard ass. I'm not that bad. There is a point where looks matter and you can have the most attractive personality ever and it wont get you anything.
I like that the movie is not a romantic movie, the romance between Emmett and Elle it's not relevant, so when Heather said that Luke Wilson just stayed in the car and then they're madly in love, I think it's a lil bit inacurate, because, they had a little flirt and they like each other, but madly in love? Don't think so. And the musical it's much more romantic, even at expenses of the Elle character sometime, in my opinion. Still love it though
yeah i agree--the film focuses more on elle making it through harvard on her own and making the decision to show up warner because he called her stupid; she's motivated by spite to prove him wrong and stops trying to actively win him back and that's a great messages for girls in particular
in the musical emmet brings her down to earth and helps her buckle down and actually study--she needs a guy to help her and unfortunately that takes away from her independent decision and it takes her longer to move on from warner
each version is still pretty good in its own right though--it also helps to remember the differences in mediums; in a movie you can get away with following one character while the side characters remain pretty much in the background; in theater following one character can get pretty boring, it's why most musicals follow two or three people at a time--typically the leading man/woman and maybe a best friend or enemy
so making the musical about elle *and* emmet it lends itself to more interesting story in a theater perspective

But on the other hand Elle isn't as strong willing (Will power haha) as in the movie

I don't think that having someone pushing her makes her less strong willing. Actually, the ability to listen to others and rethinks her plan is pretty remarkable, and all her efforts are still her own. She sits down and works her ass off either way, but at least there's someone sharing a red bull with her yk
