A little bit of context for how bass-heavy some of these tracks are: in the storyline the bassist sees himself as kind of the front-man or ringleader of the band. This might explain why his part is made so prominent.
I had never realized that Murdoch being an asshole was reflected on the music :0

The ending of Dirty Harry isn't supposed to be like that, though. It actually blends/melts into Feel Good Inc. with the children's laugh in the original version of the album
Yeah I miss that from the actual physical album. When I was younger, it was the first time I heard a song blend into another one so perfectly. Blew my fucking mind.
Ya i think the way the songs segue into each other is being overlooked a bit since he has to pause and talk about the songs.
I didn't know that, sounds great.
@@Kalanathan wait till you find out pink floyd does that on like every album like dsotm and the wall pretty cool to see gorillaz did it too

Wtf!?
*O GREEN WORLD IS LITERALLY ONE OF THE BEST TRACKS!!!*
I get why he wouldn't like it tho. Its weird
Is he's opinion
_shenanigans_
It’s FAR FROM weird. This is pretty standard music ESPECIALLY for Gorillaz.
I get it, the mixing is horrible.
But that’s kinda the case for every album that Damon has ever done under the Gorillaz name.
The lyrics are still captivating, it’s the most energetic and driving song on side one (other than Last Living Souls, Kids With Guns, And Feel Good Inc, which are still pretty laidback in comparison.), and it’s still catchy as all hell.
So, what’s the issue?
CRYNG3 C0N
Well this is mine
And mine says that clearly he didn’t take the time to look at it from the picture.
I mean, he acts like this song is the clunkiest and most cluttered song on the first side,, when really, I think that that probably goes to Kids With Guns, that ending sounds SO MESSY.
AND NOT EVEN IN A GOOD WAY.

i know this is 2 years old, but cmon, he literally says not even a second later that "2d's verse is underrated". Also Trip Hop? lmao
@@pentexsucks43 I’ve never heard any other Trip Hop, I just googled “what genre is Gorillaz” and that came up. Then I figured well if google says it belongs to a genre I’ve never heard of, it must be the most popular among that genre. I did not deserve hundreds of likes for this lol

Feel good inc is a banger
It's a bop
the line in Dirty Harry about "the war is over so said the speaker with the flight suit on" is a direct reference to George W. Bush when he flew onto an aircraft carrier and delivered his "mission accomplished" speech with his flight suit on. Which of course was a total lie, but maybe he didn't know that at the time. The whole verse is about the Iraq war essentially. the bottle and canteen line referencing soldiers and kids in the desert, etc
The great question of the 2000s:
“Is George Bush lying, or is he just dumb?”
(He was lying)
5:45 murdoc is crying in hell
I imagine him dissing Brad on twitter or something.
Ah, that room. Good times.
Kids with Guns was actually inspired by an incident that occurred at Damon's daughter's school. So what happened was a kid bought a weapon to the school. The weapon wasn't a gun, though, it was a knife.
Every Planet We Reach Is Dead is easily one of my top 10 favorite Gorillaz songs, and it's so insanely underrated...
Watching you groove out gave me a surge of validation.
The album has a double meaning, it's supposed to sound like the world is a desolate post apocalypse where nothing human is left and is all in ruins but it's a message on modern life, or how life was when the album came out, and how everyone are wired zombies to the "man." People in the story Albarn is trying to paint are not free thinkers their mindless boring tools run by corporations and greed. This album by far tells such an amazing story and is packed with some of the best songs to ever come out.
This is one of my favorite Gorillaz albums
Stuart Pot my favourite of all time

8:55 the rap in Dirty Harry is talking about the war in Iraq after the 9/11 attack. You know, the one where George W. Bush appeared in front of a giant "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" banner, yet the troops stayed for years longer (have they even all come home yet?). "Your water's from a bottle, mine's from a canteen" definitely refers to all the people back home living comfortably while this guy is out there on the front lines still. BTW, the sounds at the end are the kids in the chorus all getting up off the bleachers and running outside laughing.
You're right that this and some of their other albums are about the apocalypse; it's just, they tend to be about the apocalypse that's happening _right now_ when the album is being written. Plastic Beach is about environmental degradation. Humanz is about Trump getting elected.
and Song Machine was about Covid 19

Everything is intentional in the album . It’s definitely the favorite child and for good reason . Its their first real concept album .It’s made for you to think a lot about. The point of it is to be deconstructed and noisy . They want you to be uncomfortable in a way . That want you to question it . They never intended for this album to be considered normal / mainstream sound. In my opinion the low fidelity of this album makes it sexy

It’s so cool to see someone’s first reaction to this album. I’ve been listening to this thing since I started high school so maybe I’m a bit nostalgic but I disagree with a lot of your negative opinions on the album but hey it’s just subjective and it was really cool to see someone’s first impressions of an album that I thought everyone already listened to. You did o green world so dirty
Yeah Gorillaz are pretty weird, at first listen you're like da heck is going on here, but man, they really grow on you. Some songs I despised at first I ended up listening to them non-stop afterwards...I got used to the quirky unusual sounds. You just have to give them time so they can resonate with you
I died at "Dirty Harry."
You have a pretty good ear...
Gorillaz is sometimes quite Lo-Fi (typed this before reaching the part when you mentioned it) so when you break down their music into parts, you’ll notice it sounds like ass, complete garbage, but when put together sounds pretty neat. I’m a huge Gorillaz fan, I’ve been a fan since I was in 3rd grade and I’m pretty young (I’m 18). Maybe that low quality sound is not for all but I honestly love it. Check out The Neighbourhood, they have a similar crappy sound like Gorillaz and I love that style
As a Neighbourhood and Gorillaz fan, I wholeheartedly agree

Brad Taste in Music yes you do
Brad Taste in Music Nimrod and Dookie by Green Day worth a listen?
I never really thought about the rap lyrics in Feel Good Inc. and how the wordplay reflects the vibe of the song and the album until you pointed it out. That is cool.
Hey Brad, I got a reaction suggestion for you : AllttA. It's a electro-rap duo. Their production is on point and really original. Coupled with a nice-flowing rap, it's one of my most enjoyable bands in a while.
1:58 First time listening to O Green World
2:02 Sixth time listening to O Green World
I was the same with kids with guns
Dirty Harry is about the Iraq/Afganistan war and the rap makes it explicit. It is a rap from the perspective of a soldier. For example, the lyrics "The war is over so said the speaker;" isn't about a literal speaker, the thought isn't completed till the end of the next line. "with the flight suit on". It's referencing George W. Bush in 2003 (two years before the release of the album) where he infamously arrived wearing a flight suit to announce the end of the war... which of course was a lie. th-cam.com/video/tSPNwlnpWCk/w-d-xo.html Here is the clip of him arriving in a flightsuit and here is his speech later that day on that carrier: th-cam.com/video/5BIW6qyrdu4/w-d-xo.html
So the full lyrics are:
"The war is over!" so said the speaker,
With the flightsuit on;
Maybe to him I'm just a pawn,
So he can advance."
And there are other allusions to the war on terror in the rap.
"I'm a peace-loving decoy
Ready for retaliation
I change the whole occasion to a pine box six-under" Obviously talking about a soldier that has been sent to the Middle East under the pretense of peace that everyone knew was a farce which "pine box six-under" obviously talking about a coffin and a grave.
"Orders given to me is
Strike and I'm thunder with lightning fast reflexes
On constant alert from the constant hurt
That seems limitless with no dropping pressure" Soldier is told what to do and they execute without question and they are always tense because the enemy use underhanded tactics.
"And I'm filled with guilt
From things that I've seen
Your water's from a bottle
Mine's from a canteen" Soldier has seen some shit and while we are safe at home drinking water from water bottles, they are drinking water from canteens
"At night I hear the shots
Ring so I'm a light sleeper
The cost of life
It seems to get cheaper
Out in the desert
With my street sweeper" Light sleeper because they literally are in a war. Cost of life is cheaper because as a soldier dies, they can be replaced by another soldier and look how long the war went on. Nearly 20 years. Lives are cheap in a richman's war. Out in the desert with a street sweeper; desert being Middle East and street sweeper being a rifle.
Hope that helps with the rap of Dirty Harry.
Bro, its kind of pissing me off how Brad complains about the bass on the songs, when the over saturation isn't from the mix, but from his setup and how it is equalized. In fact this album on my dt 880 pro is just sublime and the bass absolutely doesn't sound like in the video.
Still, brad's such a unique guy for reactions, and the editing is really nice so, just a picky thing for me to say.
