Been listening to Eliza for decades. She can do anything. She is her own musician though you can hear her mum in her ballad stylings. I fell in love with the Waterson family as soon as I heard them way back "in the day".
I adore this video. In the sixties, when I lived in Britain for a few years, I had a collection of records of what you would probably have to qualify as field research music. It sounded something like the May Bradley song towards the end of the above video. But I liked and appreciated it for its... intrinsic value: the melodies, the lyrics, the potential I saw in it. Eliza and Eliza's family have dug up some of that, and handed the treasure down to us. I thank them for it. And I'd like to add that many of the songs Norma Waterson interpreted for me tonight in her wonderfully mellowed voice went straight to the heart. (Eliza's Restitute will do the same, I hope.)
eliza's auntie penned some beautiful songs. this from a man who usually listens to southern rock and ocasionally listens to eliza carthy and nancy kerr..[but liza sometimes rocks; don't see her standing still. i don't think she can when she's playing].
