Are "Found in Raid" and the Flea Market Healthy for Tarkov?

  • Two mechanics in Tarkov that are divisive to say the least. They have been around for more than half the games life, and many started playing Tarkov with these mechanics in the game. But they were not there day one. And since the game has gotten bigger and more expansive over the years, these mechanics have become a hot button topic, especially recently because BSG have been making changes directly to these two mechanics. They are at the core of Tarkov's gameplay loop. But is that a good thing? Should these mechanics be adjusted more or outright removed? Let's talk about it.

ABI's solution for having a timmy mode with low loot and no raid requirements and a normal mode with normal loot but requiring X gear value equipped and an entry fee is honestly a great solution for a lot of these problems.

I started playing the game long after the flea market and FIR was added, and I've never liked either of them. The flea market makes progression feel lopsided with it's two separate economies, and FIR has so many rules that it feels over complicated. Both of these are inherently linked, but if they removed the flea market then FIR could be simplified to be more reasonable.
What I don't like about the flea market is it's "item's up, money down" nature. As an example, corrugated hoses (as you mentioned) fetch a lot of money at the start of a wipe. The reason for that is because the players that play and grind the most have the deepest pockets, and they want hoses for their hideout. Thus your average player who then finds one sees it as a big money ticket, and passes it on up to the "wealthy" in exchange for money they need for basic gear. The "wealthy" then use it to progress and get even richer and further ahead. The same goes for all the gear and items in the game, like LPVOs, armor, suppressors, etc. It's a "the rich get richer" scheme that everyone willing participates in, just to get their own tiny piece. Those that get ahead of the curve stay far, far ahead for the rest of the wipe. On top of that just as you said, it takes a lot of the desperation and satisfaction out of the looting system, because everything more-or-less becomes a bank note unless you need it FIR for a task. A personal peeve of mine with the flea market is how much time it takes. If you really want to make your money from a raid you have to spend time selling each item on the flea, and juggling the offer count limit. I would just rather be running more raids.
If the flea was removed, then FIR could simply be removed too, and then run-throughs even could be removed. However if FIR has to stay, then I think the best way would be to make it like the original FIR system, where any item found in raid (even from non-friendly PMCs) held that status if it was found *after* the task in which it was needed for was accepted. That way, all the collection tasks actually had a gameplay purpose (go to these places to find this item) rather than simply being places you only got stuck if you hadn't remembered to collect those items beforehand. This would be great for newer players who won't fall behind simply because they don't have all these items memorized. Crafted (or maybe even bartered) items could be FIR too if the components (excluding auxiliary tools) were also FIR, which would then expand the potential avenues for completing these tasks.

I personally like the FIR system and the flea market because it makes the game feel more alive with players buying and selling stuff and instead of sitting in the menus reselling stuff, they are forced to go into raids and actually play the game which I believe is good because if given the choice my friend would just sit on the flea market all day everyday instead just like in real life and not get any raids done because it's "too risky". Yes in a fking video game.

the flea market is a great mechanic and should never be removed. so far so good. In the recent past it has become apparent that apparently "trustworthy" announcements from Nikita no longer count. there is also room for interpretation in the translation.
I actually think the Found in Raid status is one of the best things about the game. you have to think about how to get to the item and away from it again and you can't just "run through". furthermore this status also ensures that items (on the flea market) are worth something and you can't sell any old rubbish. because let's be honest, without FiR you put the item in the save container as soon as you find it in a "Hachet Raid" and then you can die, you have what you wanted, either way. You don't have a nice feeling of success at all when everything is thrown at you.
So I would be in favor of the FiR status coming back.
If there is no longer a FiR status, bartering on the flea market should also be made possible again. This gives the game a bit more depth and saves collecting all the small items for the hideout, for example.
