    This law needs to be overturned! To give all of the animals a fighting chance, just to be told that if they can't get into ambassador position, you have to literally kill them! I too have had a problem with this law. It was over a seagull that had to have a wing amputated to survive and myself and my niece were told he had to be euthanized! He could have lived a long life with a little extra help. Seagulls are a protected species but you sure can't help to keep them alive! Ridiculous! He would have been placed on a farm in which he could have lived out his life. So what exactly are they protected from or for!!! Makes me angry! My niece and I put a lot of "work" into keeping it alive just to be told that we have to euthanize it. I love animals and so does my niece. We have both rescued all kinds of animals and people then tell us that we can help them live, but if it's not the way they "deem" it to be then kill it. Protected species should be protected from those laws and the people who "made" them laws!

    Why does the government make it so difficult to get a federal or Educational permit. I have been working with Raptors for about 10 years and you can probably get uranium 235 easier then a long term Raptor Permit. And where i live, there is no one that i can work under the required time with a person that has the Raptor Federal permit.

    I definitely understand the caretakers concern on rehabbing him back into the wild! When I worked at a wild life rescue and education center....I went BEHIND my managements back to conduct my own experiments and training because I HATE the so called laws our government make. Nothing pisses me off more than politics and suits thinking they know anything outside of a desk.
    Anyways, we had a bald eagle, 2 golden eagles and several other birds of prey that were labeled as not being able to survive in the wild. Well I'm a firm believer that God's design in the instinct of wild animals, far surpasses the "knowledge" most of our scientists think they know.
    The experiment I conducted was simply the first thought that came to my mind. Literally, I STOPPED feeding our eagle frozen rats and started tossing in our live breeder rodents. Not only did it pick up the instinct to HUNT and not be fed...but the very spirit of the eagle picked up! She would chirp and scream throughout the day...you could just see sooooo much more life in her. After 2 months of me doing that, we made the attempt to set her free. And she soared off inside of 6 minutes. And for about 6 weeks after her release, she DID hang around the park where we had her for years. Always lurking in a nearby tree. But she was thriving on her own.
    That's the beautiful thing about birds....as long as you don't clip their wings and they are capable of flying and coordinating their feet, they can and WILL go right back to where they were meant to be :)

      There's cruelty in freeing a disabled animal/eagle. It'd be out in the wild, but not strong/able enough to care for itself. I'm an animal lover, but I agree with that law for another reason: it keeps wanna-be eagle owners from making them into pets. They're wild birds, and should stay that way.

  • @sambo5562

    My question is what Federal Law or statute is it which requires the mandatory euthanasia of the Bald Eagle. If it is unable to be returned back into the wild or placed into a system where the animal is used as a teaching tool. Look I could certainly understanding putting of the Bald Eagle down if the Raptor is unable to feed itself or to care for itself. If the Raptor is not in pain or in a point and certainly not suffering. What justification is there to destroy the Raptor. The question is why and how did this law get enacted the way it did. Then comes to the question has this Federal Law ever been challenged in the courts. I know the Bald Eagle was removed from the Endanger Species ACT in 2007. I also question how long do you have to work with the Raptor before a decision is required to the abilities of the Raptor being able to return back into the wild. Whom is required on behalf of the raptor is qualified to pass judgement of the Raptor. Before I had to put the bird down I would give it all opportunities for it to make a chance of survival in the natural environment. This would be up to and including possible putting the bird at riske verses it facing being euthanized.

    • @GowildlifeOrg
      @GowildlifeOrg  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jim, the US Fish and Wildlife Service is the governing body and sets all the regulations for migratory wildlife. Migratory wildlife, including bald eagles, need be returned to 100% fitness so that it could be released to the wild with a comfortable degree of success. The eagle may be placed in an educational facility licensed through the US Fish and Wildlife Service and if it cannot be placed, by federal law, it must be euthanized. Current regulations require that wildlife rehabilitators make that decision within six months of the bird arriving at the rehabilitation facility. If it can be justified extending that six month deadline so that the animal could be returned to the wild, the wildlife rehabilitator must first acquire written permission from the US Fish and Wildlife Service. It is against federal law for any private citizen to possess any raptor or raptor parts without first acquiring a federal permit.

    • @sambo5562
      @sambo5562 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did this same law apply when the Bald Eagle was on the Endanger Species List. I can see a time when a Bald Eagle could be injured and not be able to be returned into the wild but could still be a breading stock? I would certainly think a person could be creative enough to save the bird and still stay with in the law.

    The bald eagle was released on Saturday March 7th at an overlook near Brian Head, Utah, after Southwest Wildlife Foundation’s licensed wildlife rehabilitator, Martin Tyner spent two months and a great deal of effort dedicated to saving his live after he was found nearly dead from suspected lead poisoning.
