- Amateur Review of the Heresy Design 300aac conversion. I barely know what I'm doing so you get to learn along with me.

20240418 - I am constantly learning and one thing is that the mark in the barrel is the gas port.
I always assumed gas ports were machined cylindrical opening but that is incorrect. One mystery solved.
20240413 - I have some good and less good updates I will try and get out early this next week.

Just wanted to add the only reason i found your channel was i have been looking up videos on augs, especially in .300 BLK, before i purchased one. Your video popped up on my feed because of that so i think doing more gun reviews is a good idea. It definitely broadens who sees your channel.

I have legally owned aug a2 z in Kazakhstan for the second year, moreover, I read that many people in Russia own aug rifles, I can't believe that in Australia you can't legally buy yourself such a rifle

Yes, and thats just shooting wildly offhand. I’m certain it’s not dead on but I also didn’t get it to use as a long gun. I bought it because it’s totally awesome.

Diggity! I just noticed factory barrels in 300 BO are out now. I plan to buy one of those so it’ll be interesting to compare the Heresy to factory. I’m like you, I think AUG’s are cool. Augtism.
I was going to wait for the Steyr version but their website says they are only offering it in a “very limited run” so I figured I likely would never be able to own one. I’m working up the motivation to go out and record this thing a little more and go over some of my oopsies I made in these videos.

The green version of the steyr .300 BLK barrel is available right now on steyrs website for $600. All others are out of stock currently which honestly is a major problem for steyr usa. Nothing is ever in stock on their website. @ForgettableVids

@@ldb906 well crap. The black ones were also available a few days ago. That is a problem.
The barrel looking like it's two pieces probably has to do with the gas port being closer to the chamber in order to get .300blk to cycle properly.
Possibly, I wish I had a cross section to look at. I had some communication with them a couple days ago and it was referred to as the “barrel sleeve” so I did the internet thing and found this. “Sleeving is a process that involves cutting the barrel about four inches from the breech and welding new tubes into the chambers.”
So now I’m thinking the barrel itself is 3 pieces. Barrel lug sleeve>barrel tube
So to give you an update on my current state of awareness.
You have more knowledge of the system than I do.
I just got off of a twenty minute phone call with the MAN and you’re right. It is all about the gas port. He had so much information my brain was scrambling to absorb it. He downplayed it but I was extremely impressed with the amount of work they have put into this thing. These guys are absolute beasts and I have nothing but respect for what they are doing and what they have created.
How do you like that magpul grip on the 300 barrel? I’ve been thinking about getting one for mine.
So, I need to use it a little more before I say for certain. In the short time I’ve had it I was mainly concerned with the performance of the barrel and didn’t give the grip much thought. Perhaps thats a good sign because it felt natural enough that I didn’t really focus on it. It is very comfortable and I felt solid pulling it into the shoulder. I initially chose it because I wanted to keep the fore ends footprint a little smaller. High speed low drag ya know. The only negative I could see is if someone with ginormous hands wrapped their fingers over the gas ports. I might put a rail cover over the left hand pic where my thumb rests.
I don’t have an opinion locked in yet but it most definitely is not uncomfortable or difficult to control. Need to shoot it more. I will update you after I try it some more.

556 is awesome don’t get me wrong.
It’s just that the AUG is the only rifle I know of that can change calibers with just one button. And being the huge nerd that I am I had to take advantage of it.
