To Stop Not Kill: Umarex TR50

  • This is the Umarex TR50. It can shoot .50 cal saboted steel balls at about 300 fps. They will hurt and dissuade most attackers. In this Nutnfancy review I'll introduce you to its ups and downs, how the curse of the desert affected it, and its potential. It is cost effective, expensive steel ammo not withstanding. Kydex holsters are available and I'll show you some other carry options as well. Make sure your balls are seated!

    Unfortunately the unmodded version of these launchers are very linited in how effective they are for self defense. If you can buy it modded to 30+ Joules or you can do it yourself, then it becomes a very good self defense launcher. Still recommend having a second weapon or spray/gel just in case. If you're going to use this launcher, use the pepperball rounds along with the kinetic rounds to maximize its strengths. I own a Byrna Hi Viz as Byrna was the only company in 2021/2022 that would sell to California residents.
    Now that I'm in Arizona Ive added an 18 Joule LTL Bravo as my EDC and a 50 Joule HDX launcher jist for home def. I'm currently waiting to see how the Lancer Tactical Higos reviews as a 34 Joule launcher for under two hundred dollars when it comes out later this month.

    There's apparently a whole world of mods for high power air guns out there. If I were to rely on one of these for defense I'd definitely opt for a modded version.

    These are great for basement draw and fire training. I prefer the more realistic size of the Umarex .43 cal birds, I have the Walther PPQ. I have a more powerful modified "paint ball " long gun in .68 cal that I keep kinda handy but I don't strictly rely on it for home defense. It's good to have options.

    My worry about using this for self-defense are legal implications. Unless you're a cop, you will probably expose yourself to all kinds of liabilities for using this.God forbid you take out someone's eye with this... no matter what they were doing to you, you will end up with a massive legal bill.

    I think the POU that makes the most sense is travel to areas with more restrictive laws. You'd still want to double check but legality will be a lot more open in various places.

      Consider that just because it might be legal to carry due to not being a "gun", it doesn't mean it's legal to shoot people with it, bc those states probably don't recognized stand your ground type defense

  • @daa3417
    @daa3417 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    In my mind the only viable non-lethal is pepper spray, I have a few tasers and the newer bolt 2 is a great device but the inherent flaw with a taser is that it can only engage one person at a time. This is fine for leo because they often have backup but I don’t, I need something that rivals the ability of a firearm to rapidly and easily engage multiple people. Pepper spray is really the only less or non lethal product that can do that, even a knife is inferior in this respect. I’m not counting firearm based less-lethals like rubber bullets or beanbags because there is absolutely no reason I would employ one of those over lethal munitions, they’re for riots and special situations not self defense. I’ve seen the pepper ball launchers but I’m not sold, a tube of spray from a good brand is more compact and does the job more effectively with less need to have precise aim.

  • @roddanlives2650
    @roddanlives2650 หลายเดือนก่อน

    You are supposed to use the lighter rounds for practice and the Devastator rounds for self-defense. Plus, you are not supposed to use the marker in 102-degree weather. That kind of heat will make the Co2 cartridge explode.

    Dang son! Naw! Not doin it with that MONSTER! Cool for target practice, I guess. Trigger training for the kiddos, I guess, maybe. But carry that thing!?! Over a Burna pepper/rubber ball less lethal?! Or some pepper spray. Cool toy and GREAT review.

  • @brucecook502
    @brucecook502 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I honestly think a magfed paintball gun pistol that can shoot the first strike rounds would be more effective than this thing and less chance of causing severe injury than this tr50 because the first strike rounds are very hard-hitting but since you will have the paint dispersing around the impact area, like if a person found themselves being threatened, if you hit someone in the forehead with one of them, you won't cause permanent injury to them but the paint would spray into their eyes which would obviously disorient them but not blind them permanently. And I think that would be more effective if facing a determined bad guy because the impact of the tr-50 would be a very localized impact whereas a paintball would spread out.

    I'm an airgun builder. You don't want to leave it charged because the seals are soft Chinese crap and the CO2 saturates the Orings and they swell and become misformed causing failure. It's designed to use and fully discharge every time. If your warranty is up they are not hard to reseal with better seals.

    Great Video ! My Automatic Titanium Boderry with a NATO style watchband is less than one hundred USD/U$D ! Only reset the time when I have to reset the date every couple of months... Wear the Automatic watch all the time then you do not have to worry about WMDs, over winding or resetting the time ! What about Paint balls to mark your target or the pepper spray balls... ? tjl P.S. Have the Suunto Clip-on Compass or would the Suunto M-9 Sighting Compass be better ? Suunto is not like the cheap compasses that cannot be charged up to see in the dark !

    The only thing holding me back from wanting to get this... as much as i want it, is the fact that switching out the Co2 takes way too long. Let's say you use it for paintball, or you pull it out for a "home defense" type situation and you shoot off your 6 rounds or whatever, the Co2 pressure isn't going to be as strong anymore on the next shots. VS having a regular type mag and swapping it out with the co2 in it already

    • @Joreel
      @Joreel 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Look into the Salt Supply S2 as it's a much more powerful launcher than this one (20-24 Joules vs 11 Joules) and the CO2 is good for 20-25 shots. Honestly it isn't going to take more than 2-3 shots anyways to stop 98% of people if you do need to pull the trigger. There is also the Lancer Tactical Higos that is coming out later this month from what we've been told and it's a 34 Joule launcher for under two hundred dollars. Both are magazine fed and have a separate CO2 compartment to maximize power. Both are also very accurate up to 30 feet, but can hit targets at 50-60 feet.

      This is the reality for tens of millions who live in democratic run states where getting or owning a firearm is very difficult to do. These at least give them an option for protection... That being said, I wouldn't ever recommend this launcher unless it's been modded to 30 Joules or better. There are so many better out of the box less lethal launcher options on the market.

  • @gregcampwriter
    @gregcampwriter 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Eleven joules is a bit over eight foot pounds.
    To my way of thinking, this device is large and heavy for something that would only annoy a serious threat, and if the threat isn't serious, it's not really a threat.

    I'm not sure of the POU when in comparison to taser, which is so much more effective. but yet I carried a pelletgun when under 21, because I couldn't afford a taser, and the tr50 is still 1/4 the price. Maybe it could deter threats by tricking them into thinking they are facing a real gun? true some places ban tasers.

  • @montizzlefoshizzle7131
    @montizzlefoshizzle7131 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The TR50 is made for 40 ft or less. Fk the accuracy it's still gonna hit parts of the body. I can guarantee 11+ J with devastators and or Z-rams will put anybody in the ER. For home it is a great option but for edc I wouldn't recommend as a side-hip, moreso back pack.
