  • Volume Control and Pressure Control are two common modes of mechanical ventilation used to support critically ill patients with respiratory failure. In volume control mode, the ventilator delivers a set tidal volume with each breath, while in pressure control mode, a set pressure is delivered with each breath.
In volume control mode, the tidal volume remains constant, while the peak inspiratory pressure may vary depending on the compliance and resistance of the patient's respiratory system. In contrast, in pressure control mode, the peak inspiratory pressure remains constant, while the tidal volume may vary depending on the compliance and resistance of the respiratory system.
