I don't understand why they didn't simply put a single plane, with more HP, but to be used only as scout. That could had been more historically precise and still quite useful.
Yes, and give the option of putting your scout into a circle while you can return control to your ship and shoot at what it is spotting for as long as the plane survives.
In game chat pretty funny on this one, micromanager getting pissy that SLM is actually using the gimmick of the ship instead of running around throwing out his one torpedo rack every time it’s up lol.
I think one way to improve all the hybrids is to bring back the RTS planes just for the hybrids. Then you could give the plane a command and get back to running your ship.
I see the planes as being very useful for ratting out your opposing DD's from far beyond your concealment before you even engage them to have you eventually engage them on your own terms rather than them eventually get the drop on you to be honest. Being able to screen your approach before committing seems like a pretty powerful tool for a DD.
I would much rather have a fighter/spotter in a separate slot and improved gun ballistics on the halford. This combo would make her a good ship and could spot outside smoke. Also WG Johnston when?

When the idea was first announced, I was kind of interested; a real-steel ship is always nice, and I assumed it would have the fighter consumable, or maybe the CV fighter, which could have been really useful; being able to deter CVs from a certain area or cap, or give a DD a bit of short-range air spotting on caps while contesting a cap, while still having smoke, sounded like it could give some interesting tactical options and opportunities. But no, WG instead decided what they wanted was to cram more World of Planes down our necks. Yay... I've seen them in game a couple of times on enemy teams, and like a lot of the BB hybrids it seemed the player was so keen to use their gimmick, they ended up grief-ing their team. One even got hydro'd in their smoke while flying the planes and was dead before they'd even noticed. As you can imagine, the enemy team was less than pleased by their Halford player and a few comments went to all players expressing said displeasure.
You would THINK they would remember they could also do "Dutch" airstrike style, but i guess that is a DUTCH ONLY Gimmick. That would better then whatever this Basterd Child is supposed to be. A spotter plane and fighters would be interesting on a DD as well. Spotter plane to spot for you in smoke, fighters to give you some aircover.
Ya know what would make this ship interesting as it is? Make the Squadron like the DUTCH airstrike, just with tiny tim planes. Now THAT would be cool. Other then that it would be better if had the spotter plane and/or Fighters instead.

However, that Mechanic of "airstrikes" feels STUPIDLY underused since its ONLY on Dutch ships. (usually when WG adds something to the game they slap it on everything that comes out in the near future) It would not kill WG to try putting it on other nations ships, the Halford is a good example of such a ship that could make use of such a mechanic. The IDEA of Hybrid DD with player controlled planes is pretty counter intuitive, since DDs are quite fragile and you can't control your ship while your Flying. Its not like the Halford gets ANY compensation for having the Catapult to launch the planes. Its armament and stats are just WORSE then any other Fletcher class, in exchange for Tiny Tim harassment. Plus, i jus think it would be interesting for WG to "test" how other plane types besides the Dutch bombers do as an "airstrike".
Had to chuckle that you’ve never actually ground out to the Fletcher…whilst I’m back to the Fletcher on my 7th stacked regrind of the Gearing line for Research Points. 😂 Fletcher is a great all-around DD. Now, all we need is a premium USS Johnston (proposed gimmick/differences: T10, give her French DD saturation, let the 40mm AA guns act as secondaries which have a very high fire chance, and give her a heal) - plus a special commander Ernest Evans who gets a +0.5% Adrenalin rush.
I haven't either. I have Kidd and Chung Mu, so standard Fletcher with its outdated model really isn't all that exciting. Had the game for most of it runtime and still grinding Farragut.
What others aren't seeing with this ship is its ability to play as part of a division, especially with a second (gunboat) DD... at its tier. Not even including the current (temporary) CB season, a division of three ships of a Halford, Kitakaze, and a radar cruiser (say, a Riga). Kita and Halford blow up the likely single DD that heads forward on a side (or at least make it run). The team now has the cap. From there, the long USA smoke hides the radar cruiser while the Halford leaves smoke, launches planes, and spots said DD (if it ran) or provides a fire or two on the enemy cruiser or BB. The Kita has now moved into a position, setup its smoke, and is farming. The Halford spots (getting spotting damage) and is the new cap contest DD. Every ship isn't supposed to be played in a vacuum by itself. The Halford is a team player ship, period.

This. I can't get how people kept playing ships for damage and kills. They are so naive. Halford is clearly a support type of ship where the US Smoke is used for allied ships, spotter planes where you can spot enemies while inside the safety of a smoke or just use it to spot DD outside of your concealment range, and much more.. I wish more people would try to be more supportive
I bet there's going to be a German hybrid DD. Based on the Elbing. The Elbing's a Spahkreuzer D38/D40, and there was a variant of the D40 that replaced a torpedo tube with a catapult for a spotter plane. It's only a matter of time before this shows up ingame.

I got the 25 containers with the free points. I ended up getting it on the 23rd one. Really did not expect it at all. Helps that i had the others already.
I would like to see the dev explain where those planes are going to be stored on board of a DD and how they will get serviced. Absolutely ridiculous. Next will be flying CV's and killer laser beams. Whatever they come up with, it should still be sideways connected to what is really possible. So for me also get rid of all those hybrid BB's.

This morning I discovered I had 90 Independence Tokens from the 4th of July event. Not expecting to get enough tokens for the big stuff, I bought 9 "Wings of Freedom" containers. Apparently Saint RNG decided I needed a free Halford.
first three games, all over 100k spotting damage. I got park in a cap, even open water sometimes, and launch the planes, spot the enemy dds. Use the longer range torps to travel through caps toward their BBs or cruisers in the back. Don't get run down by gunboats haha. I've had a good amount of fun in the Halford.
Now that we have the plane smoke cvs, this is what the plane should have been on this dd. A dd that could lay plane smoke for the team would have been wayyy more interesting.
To add to magic plane ridiculousness The single Tiny Tim was almost 2x what the plane could carry xd Heaviest armament it could mount were 325lbs (~150kg) depth charges with load-outs of: 100lb AN-M30A1 bomb x 2 250lb AN-M57 bomb x 2 325lb Mk. 17 aerial depth charge x 2 325lb Mk. 41 aerial depth charge x 2 325lb Mk. 41 bomb x 2 This is a Mk. 41 depth charge with the fuse changed, allowing for use as a land bomb that's 650lbs (~300kg) max meanwhile single Tiny Tim weights 1255lbs (~570kg)..

They could improve the ship by adding torpedo reload booster, remove the time delay on launching planes at beginning of match (u could spot while your ship is getting into position), and add SAP shells. With such a mediocre ship she will be in the coal armory sooner than we think.
I swear to God the new bots have hacks enabled. I can watch a BB make a beeline for the base for a full minute without changing course, but the SECOND I launch torpedoes (while concealed and WELL beyond torpedo detection range), 90 degree turn to port.
I'm happy using it as a DD. Aircraft not used unless no targets around. Now if it was a helo that can dump on subs that would be sweet. Maybe with a submarine homing torpedo. Should have waited for it coming out for coal.

Having played the hell out of the Ise and Tone I knew it was gonna be mediocre the moment it was announced. That's how THEY were balanced. Kearsarge and the tech line BBs broke with the formula by having rather powerful guns mated to strong planes so I had at least some hope the Halford would get strong planes to make up for all the concessions it has to make but alas that wasn't the case. Sailing a DD is already a very involved task, so introducing a long pause to fly the planes around always seemed like a bad idea. It's a bad idea in the Tone, which at least gets amazing concealment for its troubles, but an even worse idea if you have to also spot while avoiding detection/torpedoes

well im a dd player, the plane go and do something are really bad idea if you enter a cap and well something launch radar consider yourself dead, and well lose a lot of time trying to spot whit planes are kinda xd because dd do spot (or try) but well to try to found the enemy dd can be used, on armament when i hear 4 guns i say nope i lose all the intentions of buy whit coal because benson (i consider that ship one of the worsth of t8 by dpm and torpedo damage on dd and i play all the dd lines at t8)

I got this from the containers and I have to say, I am thoroughly disappointed with it, not in keeping with the play style that I have with DD’s, I went down the U.S. DD’s in game and it wasn’t until I reached the Hill at T5 that you find something with a similar range to the main battery… I don’t know what WG were thinking with this ship.
I hate hybrids but for a destroyer they seem rediculous. I would rather have the extra guns and torpedoes. On top of everything else the reload times of destroyer guns is pretty quick so it isn't like a battleship where you have time to wait between salvos to use your aircraft.
Yeah, can't imagine intentionally picking this ship up. It just gives up way too much of what DDs do, for what you get. Tromp is far better, if you feel the need for DD with planes. Bring in the Johnston
I reckon a lot of bad players will get this one and be completely ineffective as a DD. Cannot for my life see any decent DD players taking this ship over any other tier 9 DDs

Secondly, do you really want to leave your DD unprotected behind an island or smoke screen while flying a plane?!? If you get spotted or hydroed, radared, you're dead before even hitting F.... Seems very pointless apart from maybe in a 1:1 situation right at the end but even then, who are you spotting for with it?
Honestly this hybrid is so underwhelming compare to the other hybrid, like the others said its alot better if Halford have scout plane and a new mechanic to the scout plane like flying around a target area

I have all of the current coal ships and sitting on 440k coal ships. I have no desire to get the Halford. Every review of it is the reviewer trying not to say how shit it is
20: and a médiocre hybdrid, i saw another review and from what i get it is bad for everyone, bad for ennemy team because another hybrid that can spot ( where the DD isn t), and for you and your team a less good DD, and less enjoyable to play ( and seem to make little money / dmg)
The planes would hit a lot harder if you aimed them properly at least in the video your not the best at the whole aiming thing with American Tiny Tim rocket planes
@@sealordmountbatten oh, that’s really weird, especially since the hit markers seem to reflect you aiming in the other side of the ship, and slightly nicking the top of the superstructure with the Rockets. Sorry if I come off as a bit of an ass, I’ve been running American CVs since CV rework. I always seem to correct people on this when I see it.
I didn't like the idea of the dutch getting a crap load of planes that appear from "off" the map so this is even less liked. The reason I didn't like it is it is not damage that comes form the ship ie even CV's actually carry the planes they use but the airstrike is as if there is an airfield off map somewhere. Fine they want that ok, still crap like as I say it is not an ammunition that is "attached" to the parent vessel, but to have only one plane visible and 3 more appear from thin air is just patently fucking ridiculous and getting way way WAY to much arcadey cartoonish for me. How can the dd fit 8 planes on it? Simple answer it can't so, AGAIN, fucking stupid. They really need to sack the muppet that thought this up and decided to put it into the game. Why does this ship have this but the swedish dd's not have the sub attacking rockets which would be more realistic as the machinery is on the ships for the rockets etc. I have been fine, apart from the airstrike issue, with all of it, cv's and subs and everything but I am afraid this dd having 8 planes on board in some magic bag of holding is getting far too stupid for me.
This is one of the worst T9 premiums in the game for sure. The entire concept is flawed in itself and the DD platform itself is just bad, so much worse than a regular Fletcher......I'm a whale and collector but even I am going to wait for this thing to come out for coal before I get it (and never play it a single time)

Picked her up in third container, so not bad. imo would have been better if they had just left it as just spotter plane rather than armed with TT's.

well im a dd player, the plane go and do something are really bad idea if you enter a cap and well something launch radar consider yourself dead, and well lose a lot of time trying to spot whit planes are kinda xd because dd do spot (or try) but well to try to found the enemy dd can be used, on armament when i hear 4 guns i say nope i lose all the intentions of buy whit coal because benson (i consider that ship one of the worsth of t8 by dpm and torpedo damage on dd and i play all the dd lines at t8)

I got this from the containers and I have to say, I am thoroughly disappointed with it, not in keeping with the play style that I have with DD’s, I went down the U.S. DD’s in game and it wasn’t until I reached the Hill at T5 that you find something with a similar range to the main battery… I don’t know what WG were thinking with this ship.
I hate hybrids but for a destroyer they seem rediculous. I would rather have the extra guns and torpedoes. On top of everything else the reload times of destroyer guns is pretty quick so it isn't like a battleship where you have time to wait between salvos to use your aircraft.
Would have made more sense for it to be a player controlled fighter. But we all know why that didn't happen.

Yeah, can't imagine intentionally picking this ship up. It just gives up way too much of what DDs do, for what you get. Tromp is far better, if you feel the need for DD with planes. Bring in the Johnston
I reckon a lot of bad players will get this one and be completely ineffective as a DD. Cannot for my life see any decent DD players taking this ship over any other tier 9 DDs

Secondly, do you really want to leave your DD unprotected behind an island or smoke screen while flying a plane?!? If you get spotted or hydroed, radared, you're dead before even hitting F.... Seems very pointless apart from maybe in a 1:1 situation right at the end but even then, who are you spotting for with it?

Honestly this hybrid is so underwhelming compare to the other hybrid, like the others said its alot better if Halford have scout plane and a new mechanic to the scout plane like flying around a target area

I have all of the current coal ships and sitting on 440k coal ships. I have no desire to get the Halford. Every review of it is the reviewer trying not to say how shit it is
20: and a médiocre hybdrid, i saw another review and from what i get it is bad for everyone, bad for ennemy team because another hybrid that can spot ( where the DD isn t), and for you and your team a less good DD, and less enjoyable to play ( and seem to make little money / dmg)

I am not overjoyed with the hybrids as a whole and it seems like the Halford is the worst of the bunch (or maybe the Tone) and will be a pass for me.
Both Tone and Halfords should have had some sort of improved spotters. Tone's design in particular was a huge disappointment.

The planes would hit a lot harder if you aimed them properly at least in the video your not the best at the whole aiming thing with American Tiny Tim rocket planes
The replay has this weird glitch where the reticle is off when it comes to planes, it shows it much further off than what it was in game
@@sealordmountbatten oh, that’s really weird, especially since the hit markers seem to reflect you aiming in the other side of the ship, and slightly nicking the top of the superstructure with the Rockets. Sorry if I come off as a bit of an ass, I’ve been running American CVs since CV rework. I always seem to correct people on this when I see it.

I never saw thus as viable. You have alot of pressure as a DD, and flying planes is not part of it. Hard pass on thus concept
I didn't like the idea of the dutch getting a crap load of planes that appear from "off" the map so this is even less liked. The reason I didn't like it is it is not damage that comes form the ship ie even CV's actually carry the planes they use but the airstrike is as if there is an airfield off map somewhere. Fine they want that ok, still crap like as I say it is not an ammunition that is "attached" to the parent vessel, but to have only one plane visible and 3 more appear from thin air is just patently fucking ridiculous and getting way way WAY to much arcadey cartoonish for me. How can the dd fit 8 planes on it? Simple answer it can't so, AGAIN, fucking stupid. They really need to sack the muppet that thought this up and decided to put it into the game. Why does this ship have this but the swedish dd's not have the sub attacking rockets which would be more realistic as the machinery is on the ships for the rockets etc. I have been fine, apart from the airstrike issue, with all of it, cv's and subs and everything but I am afraid this dd having 8 planes on board in some magic bag of holding is getting far too stupid for me.

This is one of the worst T9 premiums in the game for sure. The entire concept is flawed in itself and the DD platform itself is just bad, so much worse than a regular Fletcher......I'm a whale and collector but even I am going to wait for this thing to come out for coal before I get it (and never play it a single time)
