Skipper Marie Tabarly (Pen Duick VI) interview after arriving in Auckland

Pen Duick VI FR (14) stormed into second place 12 hours 16 mins behind the winner and provisional 7th in IRC after 37 days of Southern Ocean racing.
Leaving Cape Town, Marie stated that Leg 2 was Pen Duick VI’s for the taking as the big powerful ketch is built for Southern Ocean sailing. But only after crossing the finish line did she discover it was not to be. They lost out to the Italians on Translated 9 who crossed the line 12 hours earlier. Pen Duick VI is now 2nd in Line Honours, 7th in IRC and 3rd in Flyer Class.

Merci pour interview Aida, Bravo à Marie Tabarly et son équipage pour cette étape 2. C'est vrai que la météo n'a pas était simple sur la route de Pen duick VI. Il faut souhaiter que l’étape 3 sera pour Pen duick VI qui mérite une victoire d'étape (voir deux ?)

The notice of race was known 4 years ago, the same for everyone. Luck (weather) of the draw the same for everyone. I seem to lose a little more respect for this obviously great sailor with every OGR interview she gives. Obviously she is enormously frustrated, (and rightly so). But it rankles hearing a complaint about the waypoint, known to all so long ago.
