Love these types of missions with minimal MBTs present, really shows their power when they do show up. Can’t wait for infantry and APC mechanics to get some true full scale combined arms battles rather than just tank v tank shoot em ups.
Great video! A helpful tip for those long targets when you don’t have a laser range finder in these older tanks; On the right side of your tank (left side in the BMP) sights there is a descending slide of hash marks brackets with numbers on top of them. These are called a “choke sight,” which helps you determine the range of your target by fitting a vehicle silhouette between the lines, then reading the number on top. Once you know the range by sizing up the target in the choke sight, simply follow the hash marks on your center gun sight based on your ammo type. Let me know if you have any questions!
For sure! It's smaller in scale but I do appreciate how it's sticking closely with doctrine. Which is why artillery and CAS are essential to their doctrine, in which we shall see in later episodes! 😉
@@PhanPhantasy You’re talking about their doctrine of breakthrough. There’s an old Cold War era training video series called “How He Fights” you can watch on TH-cam and they do a pretty good job of detailing Soviet combined arms offensive doctrines with the first labeled “The Meeting Engagement” (what western forces would call Movement to Contact) and the second being “The Breakthrough” which is what Soviet forces would shift too if they encountered a point of strong enemy resistance and were unable to locate a suitable route to bypass it. The third is labeled “The Pursuit”, but I’ve been unable to locate the video covering it, but there is published material you can find on it easily. Great videos you’ve been making lately btw!
I know they've been talking about scaling missions sizes up even more, but they need to do a lot of optimization work from what they've been talking about. That being said, the lead dev did say he ran a test with 100 or so T-72's on screen.
I tend to stick with one vehicle until the mission is over or that vehicle is destroyed. It was very interesting to see how effective it can be to switch to vehicles that are stronger in certain situations. I hope that we get more control over non player occupied vehicle movement in future. Go here, hull down facing this direction, maybe wait here for x number of minutes or until another vehicle reaches its destination. This game has so much potential!
For sure, having better options to lead your company would be great! It was a little frustrating to not utilize the whole company to attack or flank. As much as it's fun to play as a single vehicle, it is important and effective as you say to control your other platoons or sections to complete your objective, especially playing as the Pact. Thanks to playing Steel Beasts, I've slowly got more comfortable in command and control better.
@@schaddenkorp6977 I remember the demo had a rudimentary system for plotting waypoints, but you had to do it while in control of that vehicle. I imagine that there will prolly be a more refined system in the future, but the devs have said that they still need to work on some of the AI's basic movements first. I still have friendlies that get stuck the woods even though my formation spacing is the minimum and there's plenty of space to move through. Also, I've noticed that if you don't go directly to the waypoint on the map ( cuz it's a bad route or something) your teammates won't follow you, they'll just sit there. It happens alot in the campaign during the Recon in Force missions. Hell, I've had friendly units just drive to the Fallback position halfway through a mission before
Maybe you can tell me what I'm doing wrong but, I find it hard to find points corresponding to the map. I don't think I want arcade style way points on a hud, like other games but, I wish I could read the map and terrain better. Otherwise, this game is still brilliant and getting better.

Thank you for your comment. I have been meaning to research this, and I've been playing the M1 and M2 missions in the meantime.
great work
also i'm happy to see soviet doctrine being show in GHPC even if it a scaled one version and not all in one mission

Something like what the old original Rainbow 6 games had for setting up squad movement routes would be sweet.
