    I've been researching hotshotting for about a year, have watched days of TH-cam videos.
    Michael's genuine motivation is to educated and share his experiences, not just in this for a few TH-cam bucks.
    I had a couple questions for Michael, he responded within a couple hours via email, then called me the next day exactly when he said he would and spent probably 45 minutes on the phone with me, sharing & educating me. I couldn't be more grateful.
    Thanks again dude, I'll let you know the next time I'm up in Cheeseland.

    Once I get home to do 34hour reset I put my self off duty and disconnect the ELD untill my 34hour reset is up and I am ready to go on duty pre trip and then it switches to drive once i move the truck. When I connect it back again it records as off duty the whole time, which is the status that I had left it. I do this to extend my battery's lifes. I also drive my personal vehicle during the 34hour reset to go run errands etc.

    Got a similar question for you regarding personal conveyance. Does all of this apply to the trailer as well? What if say I'm going to a fourwheeler park or a Jeep event and I use the trailer to haul my personal fourwheelers or jeeps. Does that still fall under the personal conveyance thing? Just worries about being pulled over. TIA

    • @TruckingTruth
      @TruckingTruth  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you are using the truck u normally haul freight with which is registered as a commercial vehicle yes. You still need to put it on PC. What happens is during a dot audit the milage differences will get you written up for a false log book during audit. You can remove all your signs and or put up a not for hire sign. So you dont have to go in scales, but as long as that vehicle is registered as a commercial truck and has an elog attached to it you have to use pc to keep yourself out of the legal spotlight so to speak. By all means dont disconnect the box for any other reason then mechanical work. If you elog has an alarm that goes off if it is unplugged make sure you not it was unplugged for mechanical work and you are good to go.

    • @TheFordRebel
      @TheFordRebel 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TruckingTruth so you could technically put a note for hire magnet on the side of the truck and use your usual trailer to haul stuff for personal use to events and such? As long as your in PC mode.

    There's NO law that says the ELD cannot be removed/disabled. This also applies to the 100 mile short haul and AG exemptions. It's nobody's business where I am when logged OFF DUTY. Just because it's tagged as commercial vehicle does not mean I forfeit my constitutional rights to privacy. For the record, I have no problem with ELDs, it's the tracking when not on duty that I have a problem with. Even though the law states it must muse be geofenced, it's still tracking my personal movement.

    • @TruckingTruth
      @TruckingTruth  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are very correct. However when operating under federal guidelines certain aspects of our lives get seen that wouldn't under normal circumstances. Because it is a commercial vehicle, under the eld mandate. Yes you still need to have the eld plugged in and tracking. This is the reason they made the personal conveyance option. Sucks but it is what it is

      Actually your wrong the rule is that a commercial vehicle must have an elog. Once your vehicle is plated and insured as a commercial vehicle. Then it is from that point required to have an elog. This is the very reason for the PC exemption. Is to allow you the use of a commercial vehicle for personal use. If you are rolling down the highway and get in an accident while using PC. But have your equipment removed, and get in an accident. When the officials show up and get your documents. They will contact state trooper. Who will see your a commercial truck. Without your equipment plugged in. This means falsified log book charge. Which results in the fact when it comes to the fed rules. Your not supposed to be there at that time legally. There for the accident becomes your fault. Regardless of if you believe the government should know where your are. These are the regs in this business.

    • @jimmywells33
      @jimmywells33 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're an idiot. First, many trucks are exempt from the ELD madate,. Just because it's a CMV doesn't mean it must run an ELD. Second, show me the law that says the ELD cannot be operated unplugged while off duty or for personal conveyance, I'll wait...
