“The 0-2 pitch swing and a miss, struck him out, the Philadelphia Phillies are 2008world champions of baseball.” Is the greatest call in Phillies history.Harry the K is a legend.
i’m so upset because i went to that game and it was my first phillies game ever and my uncle made us leave because we were down by four and didn’t think we would comeback. so i missed the walkoff grand slam
I watched that game. Unbelievable! "The Oh My God heard around the world" Kruk knew at the sound of the crack of the bat! I still watch that vid to get my mood right. That was a "World Series moment"....but only in August
I will say though, tom McCarthy is super super underrated. He just strikes me as a 100% Pennsy guy, you hear it in the annunciation. Plus he just comes across as a baseball guy. Seems like he would pull a chair up next to ya at a bar or restaurant. And talk baseball all night. That said... Kalas is a legend. That voice will carry with all the baseball gods for the rest of time.
Hey S D, if you are an Eagles fan and REALLY want to ball your eyes out, go to "Eagles Win Everybody Goes Nuts" on TH-cam from February 2018 and watch the water works flow generously!
Franzke's calls during the 2022 playoff run should be added in another volume of Best Calls in Phillies History. Especially the call when they won the NLCS. I was back in town that weekend for a family event, and I listened to this call in the car with my dad. We were so stoked!
I’m a grown man now, and haven’t heard Harry Kalas’s voice in a long time, but hearing some of these calls takes me back to when I was 6, 10, 13, 17 years old. Many great memories….with my dad, with my friends…. at the Vet, Citizens Bank Park, little league, high school, playing baseball, watching baseball, summer nights, Sunday afternoons. Baseball… in all its splendor. Thank you, and go Phils!!!
I am still pissed at Walmart all these years later. I was scheduled to work late that night. As soon as my shift was over, I raced home and saw the Phillies doing interviews on the field. I missed the whole thing. I knew I should have used my PTO. Lol
I miss the OG Phillie Phanatic. Also, the Victorino walkoff on Victorino figurine night being in this reel is.... perfect. I am surprised Doc's perfect game and no hitter were left out.
"Garry Maddox squeezes it and the Phillies win the pennant!" I was 12 years old. 1980. One of the happiest moments of my childhood. I can still hear Tim McCarver laughing hysterically in the background of Andy Musser's call!
This year has a similar feeling. This team has the ability to figure it out and they’ve done that all season. I can’t wait to see the parade down broad street!
I'm originally from South Jersey. I moved down south almost 40 years ago. I've never lost my love for the Phillies. Some of these moments are great memories, some are new to me. When I was a kid, I was allowed to stay up until about 9 pm and watch the Phillies on TV and then listen to the rest on the radio in my room. I'd even listen to the Seiko Star of The Game post game show, with highlights and a wrap up by Harry Kalas. These days I watch almost every game on MLB TV. I'll never give up on my Phillies. Thanks for this wonderful channel.
I'm a cubs fan, a Midwestern boy whose introduction to Harry Kalas was listening to him call NFL games after a morning's hunt. I will never forget asking my dad who was calling the play by play. My dad said, "that's Harry Kalas, he's one of the best." Harry Carray was legendary but Harry Kalas is the best ever
i liked Gary Matthews home run. he said something to the catcher and jumped right in the caddie.. great call by the announcer and the Sarge was on fire. 3 run bomb off the press box in left field.. epic.
How do you not have, "Long drive to left field he buried it, he buried it...!" Andy Musser didn't have many great calls but he had that one. 1980 the night the Phils clinched the NL East in Montreal.
Definitely a tear jerker…I’m not sure what’s more emotional the actual play on the field or Harry Kalas and Richie Ashburn’s call!!! Poetry in Motion!!!
I will tell you. I went to New Jersey back in June. My aunt and I went to the Phillies vs Marlins game where Sanchez shut them out. It was also fireworks night with the drones. I don't have a problem admitting I put my head down and cried at some of those calls they played while the drones were doing outlines of players. Especially the Harry Kalas calls.
Well, he did, but it was not allowed to be broadcast live due to MLB restrictions at the time. He called it into a tape recorder in the studio, and it was released as the "Phantastic Phillies" LP record about the 1980 Phillies.
3:30 This was a double header that was supposed to start at 5pm but rain delay after rain delay kept on happening and they were determined to complete the thing. The Phils lost game 1 and game 2 began after midnight. This hit happened at about 4am. I was a bread delivery driver at the time and was starting my route when this game finally ended. The Phils didn't have anyone left so Mitch Williams had to hit for himself.
Harry was the best but T-Mac is starting to solidify his legacy. He loves the team so much. Love his call. Best is like 0:21 when the crowd roars so loud you can't even hear him, even though he's literally screaming. 3:06 Franzke and Andersen are fucking legends too. Listen to how excited they are. Franzke sold me the time he cursed on air about how terrible Scott Hairston was and how we couldn't get him out.
I cried the day Harry died and the day Richie died. I looked at my mother and said I feel silly crying over Harry. She said don't feel that way. You watched and listened to all those games. You heard his voice every night for years.
Also, the Eagles winning was a thrill. The Villanova titles (especially the Jenkins shot) were awesome. Lindros’ end of game 4 goal against the Rangers in 97 that basically put the series away was amazing, as was the 2010 3-0, 3-0 comeback against Boston. As a PSU fan, beating Ohio State in 2017 and the Big 10 title was fun. But NOTHING compared to the Phillies title in 2008. It was the most fun I’ve ever had as a fan.
My wife and I were listening to the NLCS game when Rollins hit his walkoff double. We had the quietest excited celebration of all time as to not wake our children.
8:46 one of the forgotten great calls in Phillies history. I’ll never understand how they let Scott Graham get away and leave us stuck with Tom McCarthy.
The player who had the greatest amount of impact in the shortest amount of time to that franchise has to be Roy Halladay. Two no hitters in one season, and the only other postseason no-hitter ever thrown. The man was very clutch. It was Roy who was on the mound when the Phillies clinched the 2010 division title. And he was on the mound in the 9th inning finishing that game with a freaking shutout if I remember right. Roy is one of two men that I've known to play five seasons or fewer for a franchise, and get his number retired by that franchise. Nolan Ryan is the other.
I was at that Todd Pratt game vs. the Red Sox - that game was the damndest thing I’ve ever seen live. Jim Thome hit game-tying home runs twice and then Todd Pratt hit that missile to dead center field, which was no mean feat in Veterans Stadium. Wild. What a day at the ballpark…
I know now that most people probably forget that Mat Stairs HR WAY back in 2008 but it was SOOOOOOO huge. Broxton the LA reliever was a beast. Stairs on the other hand was a nobody.
Great post. Suggestion - add Harry Kalas’ call of George Vukovich’s walk-off HR in game 4 of the 1981 series against the Expos... to date, the only posteason walk-off HR in Phillies history.
Omg that “into the night” I will never forget. I was with my best friend and we were at a dive bar in the heart of delco and I was pretty drunk and I remember stairs hitting that and then I was going absolutely bonkers.
Seems like blasphemy for me to not pick a Kalas call as my #1 but I absolutely love the Franzke/LA call of Rollins walk off double. The '08 series is amazing, but for some reason when I rewatch these the Franzke call does more for me.
Not only the best baseball announcer ever (thank God the Phillies), but he was also the voice of NFL films which would play every game highlights from the previous week. We will never hear a voice like that again.

A.b.s.o.l.u.t.e.l.y.
Could easily be the greatest call in Philly sports history.
AS IF another call will ever be better. Miss HK.
I have to disagree the whole astro series is the best ever
Absolute gem!! I’m a Red Sox fan, but every time I hear this call, I get serious goosebumps!!
The John Kruk "OH MY GOD" is the funniest call ever. Cracks me up everytime!
I love that one.
i’m so upset because i went to that game and it was my first phillies game ever and my uncle made us leave because we were down by four and didn’t think we would comeback. so i missed the walkoff grand slam
I sure am glad MLB got rid rid of artificial turf. Getting injured on turf is ten times worse than playing on grass.
I watched that game. Unbelievable! "The Oh My God heard around the world" Kruk knew at the sound of the crack of the bat! I still watch that vid to get my mood right. That was a "World Series moment"....but only in August
Your uncle is a bum @@eaglesnation115
Best part of the Harper grand slam ...
"crack"
John Kruk: "OH MY GOD!"
Seriously. Once Harper made contact with it, Kruk was all over it.
I swear he reacts before the ball left the bat lol
Harper rounded the bases like he was legging out a triple.
This was our World Series for that year! We swept the Cubs and actually sealed their fate in their division
Harry was the soundtrack to every summer, playing stickball, fishing down ashore, dosing off in the recliner...he is missed
It's no coincidence that most of these calls are from Harry Kalas, the *absolute* greatest broadcaster in history
Absolutely
🙏
I will say though, tom McCarthy is super super underrated. He just strikes me as a 100% Pennsy guy, you hear it in the annunciation. Plus he just comes across as a baseball guy. Seems like he would pull a chair up next to ya at a bar or restaurant. And talk baseball all night.

Next to the World Series win call, my all-time favorite Harry Kalas call..."Chase Utley you are the man!" Gives me chills everytime I hear that
Same here. He sounded like a energy soaked KID when he blurted out "Chase Utley... you are the MAN!". such a pure moment. The realest.
Two things I miss about the Phillies organization. Chase Utley and Harry Kalas
I’m a grown man now, and haven’t heard Harry Kalas’s voice in a long time, but hearing some of these calls takes me back to when I was 6, 10, 13, 17 years old. Beautifully said my friend. Couldn’t agree more.
Holy crap, the Kim Batiste call brings me back to being 9 years old..instantly. I remember that call. Why am I crying lol
So good to hear Whitey and Harry again! Miss them ! Go Phillies!!!
The WS call still gives me chills 14 years later.
I am still pissed at Walmart all these years later. I was scheduled to work late that night. As soon as my shift was over, I raced home and saw the Phillies doing interviews on the field. I missed the whole thing. I knew I should have used my PTO. Lol

Left out Tug in 80 too
Hearing Harry Kalas' calls gives me chills, best ever
Get the 2022 parade ready phillies in games over Astros😃👍
"Garry Maddox squeezes it and the Phillies win the pennant!" I was 12 years old. 1980. One of the happiest moments of my childhood. I can still hear Tim McCarver laughing hysterically in the background of Andy Musser's call!
That whole series was the greatest 5 games I ever watched I get chills just like I was 10 all over again
Yes we can
Yes we will
DAMN STRAIGHT WE DID
Andy was great. I got chills listening to that again
If you pick up any interference on satellite radio, it may be from the Matt Stairs home run ball that’s obviously still in orbit.
I was hoping to hear the call of Schwarber's homer in San Diego that hasn't landed yet. 😅
This now needs an update for Joe Davis on Bryces 2-run shot for the NLCS
That call & the Franzke call of the same homer
Stairs’ shot is one of my favorite bombs ever
No doubt 2008 was magical, but that 2007 season was something else. I’ll never forget it
I always was a Phillies fan, but 07 was the first year I like religiously followed them and the majors
Playing underdogs the whole time was so much fun.
2009 was also a great year, just ran into Derek Jeter and A-Rod
Utleys walkoff against the Mets is one of the wildest most exciting games/finishes I’ve ever seen to this day
This year has a similar feeling. This team has the ability to figure it out and they’ve done that all season. I can’t wait to see the parade down broad street!
The Bob Dernier inside the park HR against the Giants was a tremendous call. “Mitchell can’t pick it up”! Just great.

Completely agree, the most iconic call in Phillies history. Maybe cut some slack since it was a radio call & I think all of these are TV calls?
@@mikejschmidt a lot of radio calls in here, including HK's 08 WS call.
The nostalgia in this video is amazing...
The double play to clinch the division in 2008 is an all time great call. J Roll to Utley to Howard. Perfectly encapsulated!
3:05 - This is why Scott Frantke and Larry Anderson should be on TV and not radio.
Or we should have the option to sync radio to the telecast

Tom McCarthy may not be Harry K, but that call still goves me goosebumps

Harry's radio call on Milt Thompson's catch against San Diego back in '93 is one of his all time best.

Tom has the impossible task, following the greatest of all time. I'm with you though, the guy is underrated.
That Gary Mathews "bat flip" was nuts
Harry Kalas was like a family member I grew up with. I still miss that guy. There was no better sports announcer in my book.
Harry the k made long summer nights more enjoyable 😃👍

Thank You for Calling My Childhood
The 1980 Phillies will always be remembered

That was my wife & I too when they won the 2008 World Series. We were doing "whisper cheers" so we wouldn't wake our then newborn daughter.
"Chase Utley, you are the maaaan!"
"Chase Utley You Are The Man" is def top 5 - that started a whole movement
I expect to see a lot of great calls like these this season, with Castellanos and Schwarber in our lineup now
Mike Schmidt’s 500 is awesome
My Phillies hero.
