King Mackerel Trolling the Tampa Bay Shipping Channel Offshore

  • The Tampa Bay ( Egmont ) Shipping Channel which runs into Tampa Bay and underneath the Skyway Bridge is an absolute fish magnet, especially for king mackerel. In this video we are offshore of Tampa Bay and Saint Pete Beach trolling the famous "ditch" for kingfish. Mackerel love the transition from 30 ft to 50 ft on the edge of the channel where large schools of baitfish collect around the limestone reefs. They also hang around the channel marker buoys themselves that attract baitfish. We catch the target species using Crystal Minnow shallow and deep diving lures from @Yo-Zuri, my all time favorite for mackerel. After we catch our limit, I switched gears and did some light tackle bottom fishing for snapper. I ended up with 5 really nice lane snapper up to 16 inches.
