I use Nyman for solo, and Kolstein for auditions and orchestral, but my Nyman melted recently :(, also I use copper wool to clean the strings, I recommend it, it’s very effective and quick
Got a couple cakes of some old Pops, that I didn't use up before they hardened on me. 'Bout the only thing they're good for is to use as sinkers for salmon fishing. Work great for that. [Laffin' 😄]
When my rosin dries I put it on a plate and close it in a container with some alcohol on the bottom for a night. Then I let the alcohol evaporate from the rosin, and after some time it is reusable as new. At least it works with violin and viola rosin, you should try it
Hi Jason thanks for this great video I have used your tips on reviving old dry rosin: it does work on Pop's, the effect lasts for about a month, quite sticky at first , dries back as the alcohol slowly evaporates Doen't work at all on Nyman
But you can redo the pops and continue to get full mileage out of it. I think I am going to be able to the full cake, having to do this every few months.
I have been leaving my Jade (L'Opera) rosin out of its plastic case for a while, so I took out my file that I used for filing the handle part of my hockey sticks down after cutting them to fit my 5'8" height and filed off the top of my rosin. Now how do I get the sticky stuff of my file, LOL? No matter, now it will be my rosin file!
Hi Jason, great video! Could you make a video about cleaning the bass from excess rosin? I've got it all over my bass but I don't know how to clean it properly. Best wishes from Belgrade :)
How often should I rosin my bow? I’ll estimate I play atleast 1 hour a day. That’s my estimate sometimes it’s more sometimes it’s less. I have bows that have gotten kinda sad because of over rosining I really don’t want that to happen when I get a new bow for when I start college.
I used violin rosin for about a year on my bass as I thought it was the same. I have to be honest, when I switched to bass rosin I didnt notice much difference. I still use the violin one now and then and its really not bad! maybe I got lucky
Hi, I want to ask about the Pops rosin. I have recently bought it based on your video, but even though it is soft, it is not sticky at all. I suspect it might be old already or stored too long, but it has no production date on it. Do you have similar experience?

Yeah, that kind of technique seems to work for me also!

Interesting that there’s a difference like that-very cool, and I hope you’re doing well, my friend!!

@@CMMCM Absolutely!! it smells a bit of alcohol 😄 but it keeps on working!

I need to do that!! I think I’ll do some sort of general bass cleaning and maintenance video with one of my luthier friends soon.

I’d say once a day is fine. Replacing the bow hair every 6-12 months will also help.
where can I get that hat?

Bass rosin varies widely in terms of stickiness. Do you recall what brand of bass rosin you were using?

It might have been an old cake. Pop’s is great when fresh, but it goes bad quickly.
What is the song?
It’s from my Storyblocks subscription-not sure of the title.
