This is good info for people just getting into gardening and such. I have the same Pittsburgh cultivar with a couple shanks I need some heelers for it now. And maybe some new hardware. Got a new compact tractor otw and have to setup for it! I’m new to all this and just seeing the setup and simple explanations go a long way to help me visualize exactly what’s going on and how to set it up properly. Thanks again
My 140 came set for 48" rows and that spacing has always worked good for vegetables, tobacco ect. I love my disks and have 2 sets. I use them to list up my rows before planting and also for laying stuff by with. You are exactly right Chris. A good healthy bed can keep your stuff from drowning when you have a lot of heavy rain.
I like how you made your own tool bar ! I bought a 3 and 1 tool bar that came with cultivators , a bedder and a middle buster from Stevens Tractor years go . That was one of the cheapest investments I made for my tractor and I can do several jobs with it . Thanks for sharing and have a great evening !
Very helpful! I have a receiver hitch for my tractor and an old disk that’s bent up. Been thinking about making a hilling disk attachment. Your video gave me some ideas. Thanks,
You're giving me some ideas I'll have to try. Garden beds this year I'm going with are 30in and 18in paths, I'll have to see if I can get my Ferguson cultivator rearranged to clear out the 30in row. I'll have to keep on the lookout for disk shovels to experiment like you have. Thanks for jogging the noggin'.
Biggest reason I do 48 for everything is I don't want to change the wheel spacing on the tractor constantly. My transplanter, sprayer and a few other pieces only do 42/48
It might go into 50 which will work for 48 inch rows . I had a 231S but I can't remember. I know a 240 will go into 50 or out to 76 depends on which rims you have as well
I have the same cultivator but I only have 3 small shank assemblies and one large. I need to buy the hillers and the shanks to fit, where would you recommend to buy them from? I’ve looked a few places but haven’t found anything that would fit properly.
@@HomesteadingtheHardWay I live in Mississippi, I’ll keep looking thank you for the information. I’m new to gardening and slowly acquiring all of the right equipment to do it but it’s hard to buy new so finding it used and slightly abused fits my budget.
That's normal with clay not a lot you can do . I will say I learned the hard way not to add sand it'll make it concrete and to much stringy organic material will make brick . About all you can do is hoe it to break up the crust I just got done doing that
@@HomesteadingtheHardWay I was thinking about putting horses compost between the rows and tilling it it after season is over and its already like i brick after that first rain

42/48 is about perfect for garden plant and is good enough for sweet corn . Any closer and it's hard to get down the middles to pick

The ones I use are for a farm all cub . Don't know how far away you are but I have plenty of extra drops and shanks from where I've cut them down

Do you sell Berkshire pigs 🥩 🐽
No we avoid them like the plague. They fall way short on mothering ability and are one of the slower growing large breeds .
