Legendary British actress, Helen Mirren, admits feeling the spirit of Sarah Winchester as she shot her latest movie, "Winchester."
Inspired by true events, the movie centers around the matriarch of the Winchester family which founded the famous American rifle company back in the 1800's.
Mirren plays Sarah Winchester who was said to be haunted by the ghosts of those killed by the Winchester rifles.
As a result, she ordered constant construction to her California home in order to confuse and trap the ghosts she believed were haunting her.
A skeptic San Francisco psychiatrist, played by Jason Clarke, was sent to evaluate Sarah's state of mind and discovered that her obsession with the house may not have been all in her head.
The current "Winchester Mystery House," a popular tourist attraction in San Jose, California, has more than 160 rooms, 10 thousand windows, two thousand doors and forty staircases.
In anticipation of the film's release, the film makers invited media to tour the actual home and interview the actors inside one of the many unusual rooms in the home.
"Winchester" is just wrapping up shooting on location inside the Mansion and in Australia where a replica of the house was built and later partially destroyed in a scene depicting the infamous 1906 California earthquake.
The thriller is directed by Australian filmmakers Michael and Peter Spierig known for their features "Predestination" and "Daybreakers."
"Winchester" is scheduled to be released in 2018.

I loved visiting the Winchester Mansion. I got chills down my back in the wine cellar area. She was a very smart woman. She had many inventions!I love the one how to water plants. This should be a good movie!

My son and I toured the WMH and we decided to hang back from the crowd and see if we could sense or hear anything without the crowd in various rooms. We did. In one of the maids rooms, after everyone had moved on we just stood there for a moment and we could clearly hear foot steps walking across the floor right between us. It is a very old wooden house and the floors creak. It was really cool.
I wanna go there now. I just heard about this today. I'm gonna be prayed up and have a bible on me- but it's so beautiful, I want to see it.

Curtain moved, with a black shadow figure coming up from the floor. I live in San Jose, and have been on their tour 4 times. Have experienced supernatural events their twice, the second freaked me out so much that I walked directly to the end of the tour, where they have a museum with every Winchester rifle made up till 1921. Spent the last 40 minutes of the tour checking out all the rifles, and waiting for my old lady who was walking with the rest of the tour through the house. There was about 30 of us. Guess I should tell what happened to me. We were all on the third floor in a room that had a balcony, the guide took us over to the railing to look down where there was no floor on the second story, you could see down into the kitchen on the first floor. Sarah used to spy on,and listened to the kitchen help. As I was standing there and looking down, I heard a female voice call out my name Frank, close behind me on my right hand side. I thought it was my old lady, and turned to see no one there. I turned to my left and realized I was in the room by myself. The rest of the group had moved on to the next room. I looked back down into the kitchen and heard that same voice call my name again, only this time she was behind me on my left side, and I mean right behind me. I didn't even look back, just walked along the rail till I got to the doorway leading to the next room, and went in and rejoined the group. I didn't tell anyone, not even my girlfriend, just told her I was going down to the museum. I eventually told her when we got home. It was quite an experience, gave me the Willie's. That place is for real. About 12 years later I was watching William Shatner's program Mysteries of the unexplained, and they were showing the 10 most haunted houses in America ,guess which one came in first, San Jose's Winchester Mystery House. And they'll get no argument from me !! Sorry bout the length of my post, but I wanted to get it right to the best of my recollection....

I grew up and live about 5 miles away from the Winchester House. I’ve taken the tour several times and love it more each time I go. I loved the movie and Helen Mirren. I don’t know if the house is haunted but who cares it’s a blast to see. Very thought-provoking.
I 've visited the Winchester House in San Jose and found it fascinating.We can still sense Sarah's spirit in it, her personality. I've read and learned about it and Sarah W. and her grief at the loss of her child and husband and guilt over her fortune. My husband and I went to watch the movie yesterday and really enjoyed it. It's a blend of real facts with made up events that made us jump in our seats in fright. I recommend Winchester to those who enjoy this type of movie. It's not violent full of blood, its mostly spirit scary. And include the Winchester House in your agenda of places to visit .
I am sooo excited for this! I love Mirren and I've been so interested in the Winchester house and story! Can't wait!

There was one point in a version of that interview where she looked up and wondered if over head she heard Sarah as a ghost tapping her cane three times on the floor, I wonder if it was on a day when she came unexpectedly outside the designated day for personal maintenance inspection.
You know, if we really wanted to prove/disprove spectral/supernatural phenomena you'd think they'd set up an array of infrared cameras/listening devices all over these supposedly "haunted" places - just cover it with camera/sensors and gather all the data. I'm open-minded, but I also know that the human brain is very good at "filling in the gaps" when it doesn't have all the information, especially when you're in a "spooky" region or even infamously spooky. Combine that with adrenaline and I think you get a lot of people believing they saw/heard things or misinterpreting what they heard because of the venue.
I guarantee you Sarah's ghost is there! Not just her "spirit" as you put it
My grandmother's ex husband (who passed away recently) was a Winchester. And related to Sarah Winchester. Her ex husband would always tell her about this stuff and she'd tell me. We plan on going to see this once it's released.

I was able to take the grand tour about 10 years ago and it's such a beautiful, complex and astounding mansion.
I saw the entire movie a few weeks ago. It's a great classic movie.

Most people do not believe this.My father liked exploring places that were off the grid so to speak.In the 40's he discovered a abanded estate then was out of the city.It was Sarah Winchesters Yonder Villa.When i was about 10 a few years before it became a tourist attraction.My father draged me along exploreing it in tbe late afternoon.In a room i think it was a kitchen paint color was a pale green.I turned away from my dad for a moment or so staring face to face with a woman as i now know did'nt know then wearing a black lace victorian style dress.She said nothing but i felt her speaking.My dad turned around and freaked grabed me around the waist yanking me away running to the outside.I cannot remember a time other than that seeing my father hyperventilating.I went back there when i was about 25 it had become a tourist trap with the only way in attached ruin the place gift shop.Gone was the open fields and the sign at the estate entrance gate"Yonder Villa.Years later when I bought my out in tbe trees home I made my address and a rustic sign at the entrance gate.Yonder Villa.Nobody all these years has even asked where i got that name.

Is "The Mystery House" active?? I'd say SO. Just listening for EVP with the vid audio amped WAAAY up... @ 1:56 (during the tour segment) sounds like the voice of a child entity says, "SOMEONE IS TALKING;" Then, as the group proceeds on the stairs (@ 2:00) an older male sounding energy says, "SOME PEOPLE SIT... AT TA-A-ABLES." Of course it's a matter of historic record that Mrs. Winchester had one particular room in which she sat AT A SEANCE TABLE in order to commune with Spirit. ** Lucky for us, Spirit voices are distinctive enough, we can identify them -- AND, most importantly, DIFFERENTIATE THEM from the voices of the Living. Great stuff for such a short clip!!
This movie looks so good so I can't wait until it comes out. That house had rooms with no way out or halls that went nowhere and mazes throughout. Was this lady insane or something else? I hope the movie sheds some light on her affliction.
She was eccentric, yes. She thought that if she kept workers building it would prevent bad luck, and the ghosts haunting her would get confused or something. It's not haunted, but she believed it was haunted. I live in the area of the mansion. They promote it like it's this creepy super haunted place, but it's not. It's beautiful and a bit perplexing, but not scary.

When I was 10yrs. old, I went on a tour of the Winchester House. This was in 1961 before the house was refurbished. It was Holloween and late in the day when we took the tour. Just as the guide was telling us about the room where Sara Winchester contacted spirits, The electricity went out and left us in darkness except for the eerie sunset light coming in through the stain glassed window and the sound of the wind blowing. I never went back.

JeanPaul Dixon Sarah Winchester wasn't insane from the rifle her husband invented - there IS a reason why they keep these myths about this woman alive- to generate tour action and sell tickets sure, but there is more to it than that. An amusement park worker managed to get Sarahs house and next thing you know- it has further developed into stories about crazy Sarah. There is no real record of her holding seances in there. She was intelligent but quiet and not having children, had to generate other interests in her grief. Her wealth also separated her from others - as a woman in that era it could not have been easy at all.
