A fellow teacher and I have fully embraced this technology and what a blessing it is.
We sat together and gave it the standards we were trying to hit, the text that we were going to teach, and past assignments we’d given. We then asked it to 1. Look for areas that might be unclear for students. 2. Give us a list of project based learning that would support our goals. We then refined what we saw it create. 3. (My favorite aspect) asked it to give us a 4 point rubric for the assignment.

I stumbled on this video searching for ideas to help students learn algebra basics. In order to get into PBL or design based learning students must first learn the basics, just like they needed to first learn to read before they read books or wrote essays. I would like to see specific tools and strategies rather than generals.

A student of mine got in trouble for being ahead of the curve, using AI to do a ppt. But he had to present the information. Meaning, he had to learn the material to teach it. But the school got stuck in him using AI, which he cited the sources, as opposed to his oral presentation.
Watch how in the future, ppt projects will be assigned to be done much in the way he got in trouble for.

Thank you for sharing this fantastic video! I'm excited to share it with my colleagues and help other teachers discover innovative ways to use ChatGPT and AI to enhance their teaching. I strongly believe that AI will revolutionize education and transform the way in which children learn on a massive scale.

Are there ways ChatGPT could be used for assessment? Could a teacher create a bot that would interact with a student, ask probing and follow up questions and then clearly articulate what that student understands and what that student needs based on the conversation?

I’ve been playing around with ChatGPT and I LOVE that it DOES NOT write for you but helps with form types I.e. poetry, argument essay! However, it is a false understanding that it writes FOR YOU! It still requires your real human input to respond with AÍ understanding of your question/comment/request.
It CANNOT supply you with internet links!!! It is still up to you to do some research and this pushes you to learn how to ask skillful and helpful questioning too!
I’m liking it very much and Juliane is quite right - try it rather than fear it! I’ve not said TRUST it!
As for the BOT as I understand it - you control the question/answer sequences!

You can ask it to create a chatbot with a specific coding language to assess whatever you want.

One idea your video sparked was allowing ChatGPT to use student inventory survey data and modify curriculum plan so it is much more customized for that class. Then do the same thing again for daily lessons and assignments, combining student interests as well as UDL.

I love new technologies and implement them in my teaching. E.g. I brought an Amazon Echo into my classroom, the kids saw it and shouted "Alexa!". And they had a quiz where Alexa asked questions and which I previously customized just for this class. Our job now is to teach young people how to use technology, not to forbid it.

Could you please explain why you left this comment? I know that change at this massive level is always difficult, but you seem almost anger about this new and exciting tool.
