    This was kindly sent to me by Starrylock (thank you!) after I commented about how much I liked it’s interesting locking mechanism. Really fun lock to explore and a great lock for the collection 👍🔐😃

      'Yikes!', you might think, 'What really is the point of having a padlock which can be bypassed with a decent flat-bladed screwdriver? It looks like yet another cool idea, thwarted by bean-counting in manufacturing.' But, of course, a LOTO lock is designed to be overridden easily in an emergency, whilst telling people to keep out, or not to meddle, usually for safety reasons. Thanks Ash. A nice lock for the collection.

    Hi and nice picking. I believe that the plastic mechanism is sometimes combined with a plastic outer cover and plastic shackle cover to provide electrical insulation. It's a safety thing. 👍

    These are designed to be difficult to accidentally open while they are locked in place, and to quickly show tampering, not to prevent a deliberate homicide. But, they need to be easily destructively removed by supervisors if used improperly, or if the keys are lost. Imagine an electrician locking out a switch at the close of a work day, and returning to work the next morning... he checks his lock, and if it is still installed, he can go to work without starting over with the safety protocols.

      What's the best way to remove one of these locks? I'm used to LOTO locks being plastic, which make sense, but some seem to be a bit beefier, like this one. Is the shackle unhardened?

    I bought one of these after seeing it on another channel. That guy couldn’t pick it with the cover on so I figured because of its uniqueness I’d buy one and put it to use.

    Very cool lock. BTW, I was telling you about the gifted Dimple lock, Starry ordered it from Amazon Canada but was fulfilled by Amazon UK. Mystery solved. The LOTO locks are not really meant for security, that's why most have plastic elements to them.

    It's a nice looking lock, pity security isn't so high. Although the response for this lock (Lock out) would indeed make you a little more forgiving.
    Thanks so much for sharing.

    Lovely design of lock - nice to see workings
    Why do these safety lockout locks have plastic inside
    Masterlock safety lockout has a very good secure core wth a plastic case
    If you lock out equipment it needs to be secure from.picking but not physical attacks

    • @LockNoob

    Cool idea neat lock but comes up short on delivering security

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends really as it’s not really required to have a lot of security per se just a lot of key differs for safety reasons 😀

    It was my understanding that a "lock out" lock was made to be broke open destructively in an emergency? I think that's the reason for the plastic core.

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could well be right!

    • @toastskate
      @toastskate 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also Brady makes a style where everything, including the locking hasp and the ball bearings, is made from plastic so you can safely lock out a breaker panel.

    It's obviously made to work in a factory type environment. The rubber sleeve in the keyway is a neat feature to keep it clean inside. It's not meant to be super high security, it's just a lockout lock. Wierd how it uses sidebars like a dimple lock

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it has the required level of security for it’s purpose:-)

    considering it is a safety lockout padlock, i think being able to be torqued off isn't a bad thing. people do lose keys. These locks aren't meant for security, they are meant for safety.

    The design on this lock reminds me a lot of the “tu-bar” lock commonly found on gas pumps. Certainly clever but the execution needs work to be up to par.

    Nice lock shame it’s not made of brass

    • @defaultui9625
      @defaultui9625 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a "lockout" lock as mentioned, which by design, are intentionally made to be easily opened destructively in an emergency, keyword easily. A common use would be to lockdown the control mechanism of a dangerous machine to prevent it from being turned on while maintenance is being done. It's for worker's safety. A full brass core would no longer qualify it as a lockout lock.
      Another example of a lockout lock is the Master Lock 410 which has a plastic body.
