My uncles wife , her dad ran this place for years my grandparents are buried here as well
The further back you go there are more crypts that are over grown
Also in the mausoleum
There is a spot covered by an iron plack
If you unscrew the corners
It opens up to a room with small niches that have people’s ashes in them
Only identified by numbers
Kind of a poor man’s back door into the cemetery itself
My dad showed me that part uncles father in law showed him it

The first crypt is better built than most homes.

At-- 9:27 -- To the right of the picture is what they had us salute when we lost a soldier. The empty combate boots, weapon, the soldier's dog tags, and helmit. 💖

I used to hang out and take photos in this cemetery all of the time. I think it is one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the US. An American version of London's Highgate Cemetery.

My new hobby! And thanks for turning me on to the beautiful structures. Never realized the art in death. In the one grave there was a closed small bottle up in one of the openings at 17:58.
By far my favorite cemetery. It has some awesome background. All the way to the designer. My good friend Todd Crew is buried there. When I go visit his memorial. I tend to spend the whole day there.

Thank you, like I said it was a bonus I didn’t realize I got that until I got home and really looked at it. I wish I could’ve captured it for longer but I didn’t really know what I was filming in there I was just panning around at the time. Maybe next time I can get a better look now I have an idea of where it’s located inside

Imagine going through your grandmother's things after she passed and finding the keys for one of those 200 yr old family mausoleums, would you go and enter?
If I had a key and it were family? Yes
Yes indeed I would!
I have keys to the family vault in the UK. Three hundred plus years of family. Last entombment was my Dad. Eventually my wife and I will take up residence within, and I'll leave the key with my son.

You need to purchase a snake camera used to inspect pipes, sewer. Bendable extension with camera and light! Go back in that crypt. I bet it’s incredible. Good stuff!

That mausoleum is almost identical to Adelicia Acklen's mausoleum in Nashville, TN. Adeliciawas on the of the richest women in Th U.S. during the Civil War.

People used to put pennies on the eyelids of the dead to weight them shut. Now they insert a kind of ridged contact lens to do the job.
Funeral must of been cheap back in the day. Really nice headstones, large mausoleums. Today a family would need a min of 20k to burry a love one with a small headstone.
I’m sure you’ve seen inside Mausoleums where there’s a little corner areas dedicated to one whole family and there’s about five or six trips going up to the ceiling? One time I was told by somebody who works at a local cemetery that those back in the early 1900s were about 20 K to 30 K. Now they’re over $100,000

I often wonder when driving through our local cemetery how much some of the statues and large headstones must have cost back in the late 1800’s and early1900’s I helped my son pick out a headstone for his wife’s grave and was shocked at how expensive they are now.
It was never cheep. But some families had more money. Also tumb stones were made and shaped nice back then. Those who made the were realy good artists

You need a scope camera. They are cheap. Looks like a family open vault. Put members on shelves. Probably lead lines. Names would be on coffin plats.
Yes that’s probably gonna be my next plan of attack that footage on this video was on my iPhone 12 because It had a light on it so I can really see in there
I have tried to film through that hole in the door before and got nothing so to that day I tried again not thinking I was going to get anything again.
Great tour. One fella got a plumbers camera with a light on it, to look inside crypts. You might try that. I appreciate your respect of these who’ve gone before!!

Most of these crypts are beautifully designed for that time period but I'm not sure if I'd like to be laying above ground. It may be deemed as not safe & being under more so. However, this is an incredible historic cemetery & thanks for sharing your experience, it was very interesting.
What do you mean by not safe? When you are dead, how isn't something safe?

The 1906 death dates might reflect the terrible earthquake of that year. I married a man much older than me and his mother was in San Francisco during that earthquake. She described a number of things such as the streets splitting apart. She said the earthquake did a lot of damage but the ensuing fire did more. In order to stop the fire, blocks of the city were dynamited and that caused even more damage.

@@CryptDoor Thank you. I watched the whole video wondering if family names would come up. The family ended up in southern California via a marriage to one of the big land grant families. Up north, Benecia and Vallejo are named for members of the Spanish family. Also Bakersfield through Arcadia Bandini de Sterns de Baker.
The big crypts you featured would contain people that my husband's grandfather would have known as he had a seat on the stock exchange in San Francisco. They also knew and travelled with Jack London.

The Main crypt building style is called Gothic
I often wonder who has the job of cleaning inside of the crypts? Family members? Grounds keepers?
And thank you for mentioning our veterans this wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for them.
That would be up to family, because when I have seen people inside, any kind of private mausoleum cleaning up, it’s always family.

6:29 John Charles Adams Jr. most likely suffered a severe head injury causing what we call "Raccoon Eyes", or the medical term is "Periorbital Ecchymosis". Such a tragic death at a very young age. The mausoleums that you visited are unbelievable! I really enjoyed this walk. Thank you.

What mite be more interesting is making tours of one of the many abandoned grave yards, there is stores there, some of those stores need to be told.
I didn't know there were mites or stores in cemeteries. They MIGHT have STORIES to tell, though. Incidentally, a GRAVEYARD is placed next to a church. A CEMETERY can be anywhere.
@@TubeRadiosRule I did not know that. I'm a heavy truck driver in the US, lots and lots of abandoned cemeteries littered all over the country. Spent a few years in the UK, litterly stumbled across what I thought was an abandoned cemetery "one dark and stormy night" short story, I was in the Air Force, car died had to thumb my way to the base, was walking across what I thought was an empty field, no buildings or sighs that could be seen, stumbled, fell on my "Pride" grabbed my flash light, I fell over a laying on its back grave marker from the early 18th century, at least that's what was written on it. I was not exactly thrilled about things, needless to say, I got real motivated to leave, looked at the grave marker, apologized, that's when it got very strange, after the apology, I swear I heard the most beautiful version of "Amazing Grace" being played, felt a calm understanding warm almost loving presence, picked myself up, made it to the highway, caught a ride. This story is over 40 years ago, I remember it as if it was yesterday.
That is a beautiful crypt, with the Gothic openings. I wonder who is buried there, a Victorian aristocrat? When was the last time it was opened or the last time any descendants visited? Very and truly fascinating.
I just found out about an interesting story linked to the family in there thanks to a viewer of mine so I’ll tell that story soon

Didn't you put it together? Right after the statue for Kittie, you looked at the memorial for a family of three. Look at the daughter's name and dates, then look at the initials on Kittie's statue. Same little girl. Great video!

The unnamed crypt was likely used for cold storage of the dead during winter months. The coffin there was empty, as it should have been.

But on the step in front of it there was the last name of Mason
The ground doesn't freeze in Oakland California. The last time it snowed a measurable amount was 1976. So cemetery burial can occur year round.
@@CryptDoor our receiving vault at Bonaventure in Savannah is the Gaston vault. Mr Gaston died out of state and the cemetery there housed his body until family could bring him home. He built his mausoleum large enough to be used for the same purpose here in Savannah. It was originally located at Laurel Grove and later moved to Bonaventure.
@@uptoolate2793 in more favorable climates these vaults are used for people who die away from home and are held for family.

Both in most cases… but in older ones like that. I hear keys maybe lost over time.. that’s coming from somebody I know that works for a cemetery

I think a scope camera for you phone might help see what's inside but it may invade the dead privacy.

@@NextWorldVR It’s Mountain View cemetery located on Piedmont Avenue. They have certain days a week that you can visit for recreational use. I do believe it’s Wednesday Saturday. And the rest of the days of the week are for families only. There still being strict due to the pandemic

Guessing it might be in the Gothic style or Second Empire which was a style of Philadelphia architecture popular in mid 1800's.
