I like the Victorian thinking, parks for the living, and mansions for the dead. This cemetery incorporates both. Great video Tony, thank you.

Beautiful cemetery! Strange how they left the two cans of ashes there. Agree the door should be locked. Love the metal markers! They held up so well! Thanks for the tour Tony!

There is a huge zinc marker in a local historic cemetery. Legend has it that bootleggers used to keep liquor behind the panels during Prohibition.
Maybe the cemetery staff would know whose ashes those are?

Thank you. This cemetery is so unique. The beautiful stain glass and the metal markers very unusual. I never saw a metal marker.

Metal grave markers "This began in the 1870s and became a trend for a while. People purchased zinc gravestones for several reasons. Grave monuments made of zinc were less expensive than ones made of more traditional materials. The zinc monuments were marketed as “white bronze”, which made it sound rather fancy." There are whole cemeteries of these in the east. People seem to steal the name plates. Order the marker from a catalogue and custom for the name plate. Make note to office for insecure internment on the ashes? Nice tour.

The first grave is interesting! Many southerners fled to CA after the war between the states. In Hollywood there was a beautiful CSA monument for the CSA veterans who stayed at Dixie manor the veterans home the UDC made for them. Their stories in the book are heart breaking and powerful.

    You’re in Napa,wine country,nice!
I’ve never seen a metal headstone either. I’ll have to keep my eyes open on my cemetery walks.
I’ve seen before, several wives buried with the husband in the family plot.
With that sign talking about cemeteries being created to look like parks, the very first one was built in 1831 in Boston Massachusetts,The Mount Auburn Cemetery. I’ve been once, you can’t see it all in one day. It does feel like a beautiful park, with graves there too.
You should plan your vacation for next spring or summer to come to New England. You like old and historical cemeteries,we have them. I’m bias, I like the cemeteries here in Massachusetts .

Hey Tony, maybe the ashes were placed in there to
be interred in the wall at a later time and it never happened...
Maybe one of those names on the mausoleum wall is missing
their ashes. They could have been delivered there and somehow
were never interred. Make you wonder if the mausoleum door gate
was forgotten to be re-locked after the ashes were delivered or it was
"jimmied" open. Beautiful tour. Yes, the stained glass window in the
Duffy mausoleum represents "Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God that
Taketh away the sin of the world." Beautiful!

Very often the wife's of the widower would have been related often sisters or Cosin's especially if their was children in the first marriage that a relation of the first wife would be blood to the second wife and their could be land involved that was given to the daughter as dowry preventing the land going to the children of a second outsider wife and her outsider kids after the death of the first husband don't you see they're was no tv and these old ones had plenty of time for thinking and working things out you mourned the dead that time but you did not go soft often business contracts was sealed between the son of one man and the daughter of another man things came together better with a marriage and children their was no divorce marriages were arranged no such thing as falling in love caught playing around could result in getting your neck stretched especially for the woman as I say no softness
    God bless great work
