They can't go off script because just like the Chinese system, the Japanese schooling and higher education system is built entirely around rote (memorization) learning purely to pass exams rather than how to actually learn a skill, hence why their degrees are useless outside of China, Korea, Japan, Singapore etc etc etc. There's a reason there's hardly any Asian-born Asians working as American tech firms - they get eaten alive when up against a western educated college graduate.

Eh... kind of. Gift giving in Japan isn't out of the kindness of your heart, it's about etiquette you're expected to follow. In this case I would classify this as an お返し (Okaeshi). It is given as a thank-you when someone gives you something. So for instance they asked for him to give them his time, and in exchange they presented him a gift in return.

@@sametyetimoglu6026Japaneses are famous for being socially introverted and having social anxiety. This mainly results from their hardcore study culture where they just focus on exams and never really interact with others during their students days. Also their tradition empathise on being polite and they're usually very reserved. Even in the video, you can see the boys are really shy and nervous of speaking with him. (They never attempt to communicate with him in more depths and never really respond to his questions properly. They look like parrots, just repeating what they're taught and nothing more.)
If there is something wrong with my info, or if there's something lacking, feel free to correct me. I never really visited Japan and most of the knowledge I have is from online.

There's a difference between knowing the answer to "what is your name?" Versus the person asking you "hey so what do you think of the weather today?" After that writing was a easy because I could just know what felt wrong vs what felt right.
