Are these 2-stroke V8s running flat-plane crankshafts or 90degree crank throws? It sounds like a flat-plane (180degree throws) crank, but at such high rpm I can't tell for sure.
If you have a question about the engine. Look it up. It's an Evinrude Xp300 outboard motor. You can find all the info that you need.. This thing would not be good in a car. It's 2 stroke for one. It would also eat up a lot of gas.
Some Dutch guys figured out how to mount it horizontally in an old Volvo or Audi and race and it's pretty wild. They cut open the exhaust chest and some built some badass expansion chamber pipes. Supposedly it made 500 at the crank with no tuning

Does anybody know if these engines are crossflow scavenged or loop scavenged? I'm guessing they stuck with crossflow to keep things compact, but if they went to loop scavenging then it's truly the most bad-ass thing ever.

You don't have to rob a bank. Some not so smart people are selling them for scrap values. You just have to look around. I bought one today for $1,500.00.
I own one of these.. Nothing like a 4 litre 8 cylinder beast hanging off a Gil bracket. I get 75 mph on a VERY heavy Concord LS7. It is a scary thing to open up. Ohh. Don't forget your wallet. It gets 1.7 mpg at WOT.
1.7 MPG but you can get there quick in a heavy boat!!!! If you were using Merc power you would have to strap two 260's on there to have the torque you need to use the thing. Then you would be in the 0.75 / 1.1 MPG range. These are the best bang for the buck on heavy boats.

Ie, if you wanted to put boost into it and bigger cam, ported heads, how much boost could you push and how reliable would it be?

I was testing the V8 in the tank at OMC in Dallas in 05/1982 working for Larry Frogg of OMC.

I have this same type of motor on a 26' sleek craft and it is crazy fast!! Mine is a E300PXCUR 3.6L love it.
It allways amazes me that some uploaders don't want to answer even the simplest of questions. Like the displacement of this engine.

These motors were only 3.6l or 4.0l
that one is a 4.0l. They made 2 displacements for the public 3.6L and 4.0L. The racing F1 is a crossflow 3.5L

It was actually a couple of Swedish guys that put it in a Volvo. I can’t remember how much power it made but the car ran 9 second passes.
