Beautifully said! Sometimes we live in our own "prison" without realizing that. Thank you for these words!

Thank you, Rabbi, for sharing this important story & profound message/question!
Much too often, we imprison ourselves. Moreover, more often than not, we hold the key to the chain attached to a giant invisible ball of iron...
Peace be with you & yours Rabbi, happy Chanukkah!!

I, too, live with such fear of the outside world. My coping mechanisms seem to be set in stone at 62. Changing is scary. R" YY, your words touched me, and I am grateful. ב"ה

History repeats itself. When Moses took us out of Egypt. And there was no food a group of people went over to Moses crying and asked him.Why did he take us out of Egypt.
You would think it was from Hutspa! But really it was from this being scared of the uncertainty. And throughout history we have seen that time and time again. That was the story of Hanukkah that the weak wise men were the ones who stood up and woke up everybody from their slumber. And they WON!
May we always have our eyes and ears opened and be able to see Hashem's awesomeness! Peace for Jerusalem stay safe and healthy.

This sounds like the reason why we didn't want to leave Egypt to go to Israel, leave the desert to go to Israel, to leave Germany to go to Israel, to leave Europe, Canada, U.S. ..........

This story reminds me so much of Brooks Hatlen, a character from the movie: "The Shawshank Redemption". Ain't that a kick in the head?

Just choose one mitzvah. Start with that. Do it regularly and do it with joy. The next step will come naturally. Hashem will love your commitment and will guide you.

Shabbat Shalom l hope you don’t mind me commenting but I felt that you could of told the story without saying what he did in detail and showing a photo of the man at the end your point would of still got through.

As a 14-15 yr old (not even 17 but literally a child) he wasnt tried as a juvenile????

He was 14 when he started work as a bellboy at the hotel, not when he committed the crime.
He was 17 when he committed the crime(s).
Could be he was close enough to "adulthood" to be punished as such, could be he was 18 by the time the sentence was handed down

After listening to this chanel i wonder if orthodox jews actually believe in God. Beacuse they mention alot of "divine" "energy" as like the source of everything. But we can see in Tanach that patriarchs actually Had a relationship with God, not energy or the universe or "divine light"
