It was made a little awkward since the lore is that Bettel and Flayon are already Tempus members, assigned to find new recruits. The lore has pretty much flown out the window since their debuts.
That's Hololive these days... We are lucky if they stick to the Lore for the duration of the whole debut stream. Not that it's a bad thing, really... Well, it is for people who care for the "immersion", but that's like 0.01% of the fanbase... Rest of fans know that the character is there to basically conceal the identity of the streamer behind (and not even that will stop a person who really wants to know).
@@juanmfrutos87 I’m gonna be honest, the quality of the streamers go up the faster they stop worrying about the lore. It’s like, okay for cementing character design, but it’s such a forced bit and it’s really easy to tell, every hololive is like this where their first week is the worst and then they ease up on the “character” and they feel much more natural
@@ihave2cows the good exception is Ame I believe. She is just a normal human according to lore but the amount of fan lore and her own about time travelling/different timelines is quite creative and good. But yeah, being attached to own lore is very restricting in general
Hot take: Lore for Hololive at this point is just an excuse to creat unique identities and fun inside jokes and that’s the best way to use it. It gives these people a sense of genuineness but also gives them each their own flair. When you stick to playing a “character” for so long in a super serious manner, it can lead to problems. This is an issue Tempus has circumvented with flying colors.
That being said, Bettel is 100% a clown
I personally don't mind lore. It's obvious it depends from holomem to holomem how much they enjoy sticking to it.
Some holomems, like Dez, made it crystal clear from day one they don't give a flying F about it. I think he even got a bit bonked about being so vocal about it, IIRC.
Personally, I think it's a great tool they have at their disposal for jokes and entertainment, to create content.
I don't think they should go out of their way to try to stick to it because that would be too cheesy and ridiculous, but I wholeheartedly enjoy when they play around with it. For example with Kronii playing games built around time gimmicks. Loved Sana making jokes and variety about space related stuff, being super BEEG, her limiter, etc., Ina and her shenanigans about insisting being a normal human, and funnily enough, Calli, despite being one of those who always broke character no problem, is actually quite good at using lore for content, playing around with it, making up stories and jokes about it. That's really fun, in my opinion.

Yeah seniority is less about honorific use and more of a respect for time put in, like you show you recognize they've been around but they don't get some fancy title unless it was a earned title (so Dr. X, Chef X, etc).
Closest I can think of is referring people by family name or given name but making sure to add a suffix like Mr., or Miss., or Mrs. in front, English is way more keen on those.
Even for Holostars JP, they don't really use senpai/kohai for anyone other than UPROAR!! It's just dependent on the relationships you build. Though I've noticed they use it for outside the group since they're first called senpai by Tempus and ID.

@@SoraRaida But what's important is they didn't do it. If you're not familiar with Magni and Vesper, they are good with dark humor. Best example is Magni being a psycho in their DND stream as Curiobot. As for Vesper, he told Kronii to insult him and don't hold back before they stream the Psychiatry stream. Its nothing new. Vesper even have a rejected chess stream idea where he will make fun of Axel's stupidity but management didn't let it happen bc Axel's fans might misunderstood it. I guess Vesper and Magni are crazy when it comes to creative content that's why they get along. They compare their intrusive thoughts to Gore movies where its dark and might be bad to others but we can't deny its a creative content that people would like to consume.

I mean, they ARE part of a Japanese company working under Japanese people, in a profession steeped in Japanese culture. It's only natural that some of that culture seeps over from JP to EN. especially when there are JP holostars that they do interact with who are their senpais by definition of the word like Rio, Astel, Izuru, etc.
To add what was said by Fani, the aforementioned senpai are all also really chill about the whole thing, even amongst the JP members. However, it still makes for a good impression that you're willing to play by the cultural rules.

Personally I don't think Vanguard should call Tempus "senpai" not because that title is practically nonexistent in English culture but because they're joining the same guild. Like imagine the new kid in your grade calling you "mr/ms/mrs" you'd feel old or uncomfortable lol

Spelling
Spelling and pronunciation, but technically they're the same.
In Japanese, it's written as 先輩/せんぱい (senpai), but the pronunciation can be interchanged as "sempai."
Let's also take Holostars' Gen 2 Temma and Uproar member Gamma, for example. Temma's name in Japanese is 天真/てんま (tenma). His name is pronounced as "tenma," but in English alphabet, he spells it as "Temma." Same thing w/ Gamma's name/pronunciation too.
Honestly, I hate the whole senpai/kohai dynamic thing. All it does is get in the way of everybody being friends.

Honestly, even HolostarsJP and Uproar also dropped the whole senpai/kouhai dynamic cuz they're all homies the same way as the Tempus bois. In fact, during the Altare-Vesper-Astel Apex collab, Astel even tried to get Altare and Vesper to stop calling him "senpai," but Altare and Vesper refused because they both like calling him "senpai," so Astel gave up. Seems it's a personal preference.
I did notice one thing about the StarsJP is that, instead of senpai/kouhai, they do address each other based on age. For example, Miyabi calls Aruran "Aruran-san/Aruran-senpai" because he's older than him. All the StarsJP (except Aruran and Oga) call Vesper "Nowa-oji" (Grandpa Noir) because he's one of the older ones - they don't really see him as a kouhai. They also call Shinri "Shinri-san" too for the same reason.
Maybe sometime later the whole senpai/kouhai dynamic will disappear throughout the entire Holostars.
