- In June 2024, UFC confirmed that Israel "The Last Stylebender" Adesanya would return to the octagon to fight Dricus Du Plessis for the undisputed middleweight title.
Adesanya fought Alex Pereira at UFC 281 in late 2022 and lost. He then came back in 2023, knocked Pereira out in the 2nd round, and became a two-time middleweight champion of the world. Later, he fought Sean Strickland, but in one of the biggest upsets in UFC history, Strickland defeated Adesanya by unanimous decision.
Meanwhile, Dricus Du Plessis was rising up the ranks. He fought Darren Till, Robert Whittaker, and many other veterans, earning his title shot.
At UFC 297, Du Plessis and Strickland collided and went the full 5 rounds. By decision, Dricus Du Plessis beat Strickland.
Thus, Dricus Du Plessis is the current middleweight champion, and Adesanya has announced his comeback. As everyone knows, contender Adesanya knocks out everyone.
