that moment where the woman is trying to tell Shane that they shouldn't name-drop Facebook too many times but he doesn't want to hear it, so he turns to the man behind her and says "do you understand what she's saying? no, I don't either" as though to position her as hysterical and illogical... just makes my skin crawl
That makes me sad... poor woman. Shane acted like he was a famous director. It’s actually good if you have criticism, and feedback. To know what you’re doing Wrong, right, what you need to fix etc;
@@sarahward8106 yeah, i agree. and it's sad cuz the reason why she felt most comfortable being vocal is cuz they were friends and podcasted together and stuff--glad she got away from him after. @_@;
Shane’s too much of a puss to pull that kind of attitude with an actual man. Maybe make his snotty comments to them but to actually talk to a guy like that? nah.
@@alexsanchez5826 I'm pretty sure that he was in denial of being gay/bi because of his internalised homophobia back then... And even if he wasn't he was saying shit that is directly "confirming" the prejudices of homophobes which is detrimental to the LGBTAQ+ community.
J M but it’s not homophobic if your gay or bi. Just how it’s not racist to say the n-word if you’re black. (I don’t support him by the way but y’all dumb)

Wait, you're telling me a woman who put in more time and effort, and was genuinely more talented lost a contest to a toxic man-child who cried and whined his way through half-assing a narcissistic vanity project? IN THE FILM BUSINESS?!
ooof yes. dated an empath and they would make me feel bad....for feeling bad? like how does that work? If I'm sad and it make u feel tht emotion...ur gonna blame me for it?
LMAO and my absolute favorite part was when in the Jake Paul doc he talks with Kati about being empathic and he says that he “just wants to help people” and Kati says “that’s because you’re an empath...” and this bitch REALLY PUTS THE WORD “empath” IN DRAMATIC TEXT AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN _AS IF WE GAVE A SHIT_
This was probably a notch or three lower than the common "offensive" jokes back in 2014. But now that we see this again, with even higher standards.. uhh, Shaney, that's a bad look, man.
Yeah and it's so weird that people are saying that this was the humor for 2014 like..??? I was a teen when this came out but even then I thought this movie was gross
What's really sad is back then she'd probably be shrugged off as "the sensitive red hair sjw liberal who hates Shane because hes a man and can't take a joke." Nope, Shane is just disgusting.
I love how Shane and his supporters are always like “it was a different time” “omg those things were totally acceptable back then” but then we see and hear a woman from “back then” saying he makes racist, homophobic, disgusting content... interesting.
Well it’s true the internet climate was different “back then.” However, people are acting like this was 2009 when this was in 2014 so people were starting to speak up against more shocking content.
Okay I think what people are trying to say when they say "it was a different time." But like you haven't changed in 6 years or 12 years the only reason you can say that is bc all your mistakes weren't caught on video. And am not trying to say Shane should get of the support he dose but like come on were humans and I don't think he should get cancelled for the rasict jokes.
Right? If he really wanted to get into Hollywood and seriously making movies, he would have scrubbed all of his offensive content off of the internet and taken some classes on filmmaking, scriptwriting, whatever. Even the fact that he was comfortable leaving up his content for actors and people in the industry to see is mind-boggling. He has power in the TH-cam community that he doesn't in the real film world. He's literally only relevant in the YT spehere.
Absolutely! I always had a bad feeling about him. Also, he has this super big victim complex, saying stuff like « i’m so poor » when dude lives in a freaking mansion
You'd think that being someone who's experienced with making skits and videos, he would know that people usually record a lot of things, and then trim and cut all the footage to make them coherent. 🤔
He was saying for an actor they don’t but that definitely isn’t true. Directors will do anything to have certain actors in their movies including cutting scenes or changing dialogue. But that just goes to show how truly ignorant Shane is when it comes to filmmaking.
i think shane is a perfect example of “schrodinger’s douchebag” - a person who says offensive things and decides if it’s a joke based on people’s reactions
Ashley Abdalla And as someone who knows people with personality disorders, and is disabled, let’s not armchair diagnose complete strangers online, especially with disorders that people misconstrue as only being abusive
I feel like this is why his content changed a lot over the years. Skits to story times to girlfriend videos to collabs to food videos to boyfriend videos to conspiracies theories, to these mulit part series... not to mention vlogs/podcasts/live streams/the creepy video chats with fans that have surfaced. I think now if we put it all together I guess we can assume that whenever he had a scandal he would just switch up his content. Thus in theory changing his target audience and than either losing other fans or confusing them. It's like master business manipulation. Rebranding to hide company problems.
I mean, they definitely didn't want to work on his movie, but to say they were flipping burgers isn't fair. This is Pittsburg, not LA or New York. There isn't a big acting culture there, and most people who are acting in films aren't doing so as their main job. They specifically brought up a professor who's up for tenure...likely teaching something related to film. Other actors in the area are probably working in theater productions, or doing it as a passion in their off time. If they were out of work actors, or even just flipping burgers, Shane wouldn't have had such a hard time casting. But the level of desperation to get into acting just isn't there in Pittsburg.
this reminds me of when their site crashed (in the palette series) and shane was YELLING at the person on the phone, ignoring their suggestion, and telling them to "just fix it". seems to me he hasnt changed much
True, but somehow it seemed he was acting diva-ish.... I don't why ? Did he think we would say: the audienct will see me acting here, it's all fun and games ? Seemed weird...but with this movie show in mind it does fit
Super Awesome totally get that point but I think Shane could have handled it better. He could have been assertive about not kicking anyone off...instead it came off aggressive and rude. Definitely agree with you that shopify should have been better prepared though.
I feel bad for the girl who was going against Shane. She clearly had more heart and passion going into her film, but since Shane has a huge following, he was able to steamroll over her excellent movie with all of his fans.
Wouldn't you WANT to read every note?? I feel like if this was the first movie I ever made and I directed it and starred in it I would want to read every note even if there were hundreds, possibly thousands. Like wouldn't you want to know?? No. Because it's all about him apparently.
@@alexisd6106 So, like... Yes, you should. But as someone who's extremely insecure over sharing what I'm passionate about, I can kinda understand not reading the notes. Like, when I took design classes in college, I would wait until the night before to start working on things specifically so that I wouldn't care as much about it when I had to sit through the crit. So I can empathize with not wanting to read the notes. But, y'know. Maybe that's something Shane should've dealt with before he signed up to be a director in a reality tv show / contest.
I don't understand how people defend Shane by saying it was a 'different time'. It was 2014 and people were clearly uncomfortable with his racist and homophobic 'jokes'.
Exactly!! In 21 jumpstreet I distinctly remember Channing Tatum say "it's 2014 bro you can't say that" when a random character called him a f*g so like... in 2014 homophobia was the joke it wasn't that long ago??
And his pedophilic “jokes” idk how saying you’d rape underage girls is a joke but idk people will call anything a joke just to not be perceived as the asshole they are
I remember watching a video where Drew had talked about how Shane had hurt his feelings really badly because he yelled at him for being “annoying”. Drew said he locked himself in the bathroom and cried. I’m starting to realize that Drew probably needed to distance himself from Shane because this is who he really is, not what we’ve been seeing or led to believe.
I remember a video that Shane uploaded where he had a bottle of alcohol and was peer pressuring Drew to drink even though he never had before due to his own personal reasons. I am so glad that Drew never gave in and didn't end up doing that. A good friend wouldn't pressure someone into doing something like that.
Yo I think about that video all the time. Drew tried explaining that calling him annoying in front of a group of people was embarrassing and rude. I remember Shane completely disregarding his feelings and saying things like "Well I didn't know it was a trigger for you, if I knew I wouldn't of said it." It's like dude it's not about it being a trigger its the fact that he's your friend and you made him feel like shit in front of strangers then made him feel dumb for crying about it. Shane can fuck all the way off.
I'm so mad for the other director. 250,000 dollars could've changed her life. She worked her ass off and produced an obviously superior movie. And Shane fans fucker her over.
I feel like Shane was being really sexist toward the producer especially during the argument about using the word "facebook" when he looks to the other cast member and says "do you understand what shes saying? me either" like just to belittle her
I was thinking the same thing. He was mad she bothered to critique him and he wanted to make sure he humiliated her for it. Someone who treats people like that, who is so unwilling to receive criticism is not a good person. I say this as a writer who has watched a lot of people get their work critiqued. Those who are hostile and defensive are not good artists or are not mature artists. Shane is neither good nor mature.
Yeah it’s not necessarily sexist (I mean he could be but impossible to tell here bc he’s such an ass to everyone) but damn his behavior is absolutely disgusting I would’ve smacked him lol
@@DontTakeThisSeriously616 It gives off that vibe because she explains something to him (very clearly) and he turns and asks another man if he understands what she's saying. It's not direct, but it's implied.
@@DontTakeThisSeriously616 He was clearly being an arsehole towards everyone but to me, this particular discussion looks sexist as well because if it was another man he was arguing with, he would still be a jerk but he couldn't be condescending to the point of asking some other guy what the person is saying. He clearly couldn't handle criticism but also that the criticism comes from a woman.
@@DontTakeThisSeriously616 hey, I don't know what your gender is so I'm sorry if I'm assuming to explain this, but as a woman it's a very universal experience to have this done to you in this very specific way. You explain yourself clearly to a man, he acts like it doesn't make sense and looks for confirmation in other men ("do you understand what she's saying?") as if the conversation wasn't with you, as if to say "see? Neither of us get what you're saying, so you're wrong". It's kind of hard to put in words, but the objective is to make you seem irrational, over-emotional and crazy. A gaslighting thing that historically men have done to women for a very long time. Some men don't even realize they do this (much like mansplaining), but I think his manipulative ass is very conscious of this and is actively trying to mess with her head. Don't know if I made myself clear enough, but this is something a lot of women relate to so I don't think it's a stretch. On a side note, Shane Dawson is, in fact, a mysoginistic asshole even if you don't read this particular situation as a man looking for other man's support to gaslight a woman into thinking she's in the wrong here.
Shane 2020: I’ve always been bad at standing up for myself. Shane 2014: No, I’m not going to read any notes. No, we aren’t changing the script so people want to be in the movie. No, you’re all wrong, do what I want. Gotta love a man who’s consistent, am I right?
It's crazy cuz big directors like Steven Spielberg are usually polite to their cast and crew, because they all put in effort and work and film crews tend to be pretty understanding, Shane Dawson is just childish and cant work with anyone without throwing tantrums
garrett threw some mega shade at shane over on twitter by saying that good things don’t need long explanations on why they’re good, as well as commenting on a tiktokers video, their caption was “thinking about all the racist celebrities being cancelled”, by saying “this caption is golden”
they probably had to sign a non disclosure agreement because of his image and there being a lot of money invloved. at this point ryland must be a trophy wife. and that's whats sad and heart breaking, not some crass offensive jokes. shane made us care, led us to believe they were all great friends but it may have ALL been for show. if a friend has to ask you to sign a contract they probably don't have your best interests in mind.
Where Laurie is explaining the facebook situation around 14:00 is blatant sexism and it’s disgusting. Reminds me of how male coworkers will talk about me in front of me? Like “do you understand what she’s saying” EXACTLY like that. Makes me so mad.
For real. I took note of that early on and have always trusted when onision recognize his own sociopathy in other people. It was the same with social repose.
How he played different characters in it, made it look like one of his skits. I never really saw it as a movie, also it's crazy how it ended up on Netflix.
I know right!! I was a die-hard Shane fan and I can't believe I'd never seen that before! This and everything else that's come out totally ruined the whole "eMpAtH" image I had of him. ive also been a die-hard shane fan since2010 when i was 9! I remember when not cool came out and her talked about The Chair. I didn't pay much attention to it cuz i was too immature. What really struck me is his involvement in the Bye Sister scandal and just seeing this it really makes me question his character. I want to see Nick redo this video. I can tell that Nick was trying to be nice to Shane and his fans. I think that Nick making it now without holding back would be so funny.
I was just thinking that !! When he was like “some people really like Shane, so I’m going to be as diplomatic as possible” ..I was like aww baby nick, he would never hold back now ! Lol ! 👏🏼
It’s crazy how he pretended he was shy and couldn’t speak up for himself when he did that series with jeffree. He acted like he was anxious and a push over. It’s crazy that people (including me) fell for all that shit.
@@DeathnoteBB it was acting and maybe a wee bit of manipulation but not gas lighting, everyone loves to throw around the word gaslighting, but thats not what im seeing here, gaslighting would be what Hannibal did to will or Charles Manson did to his victims.
The worst part is that Pittsburgh is a big city for film now,, like there was no reason for him to shade it like that 🤭 like we literally had some of the batman movies filmed here
Jocelyn x absolutely, there’s been a ton of movies filmed in Pittsburgh even going back to the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. I went to music school at Duquesne between 2003-2007 and several times East Carson street was shut down for movie filming
if you read one of his books, you’ll know that his friendship with Lori completely disintegrated after this movie. he claims that the stress of the movie ruined their friendship, but in reality it was the stress of working with shane.
I think it's really telling that Zachary Quinto played an adult with a taste for breast milk and yet a portrayal in Shane's film is somehow more immature...
Shane is just an Onision who managed to actually manipulate his audience into fully believing he's a good person. Onision only managed to keep a small group of people and there's the difference
Did Shane fool anyone though? I always thought people just watched him because his videos were entertaining. He pays a lot of money to have them edited and written well.

It was so unfair towards Anna to pit her up against a YT star that had a solid following base. They should’ve chosen another YT star as well to balance it out.
or they could have had a bunch of non teenage girls rating the movie.... the testing done was far from fair considering there was so much bias. Remove the bias and you get an authentic testing, the people werent interested in that tho they probably wanted him to win so they would make their money back on him.
@Spicy Memer47 the form of voting should've been more controlled, even if it was a small youtuber they still would've had a viewer base that would vote for them over the other person. either way there would be too much bias in voting. you have one person with people who are already invested in their content and another who doesnt whether the youtuber is large or small
This show is horrible to watch. I can’t believe he didn’t check his ignorance for this industry and realize that he is not actually a skilled director just because he can videotape himself in his room lol
In case anyone hasn't heard, Shane Dawson had a podcast years ago with Lauren from the show as a co-host. I think it was called Shane & Friends. She had announced she was leaving the show because she was getting married and moving on with her life. She proceeded to explain that during her HONEYMOON Shane was texting her bothering her (he's laughing condescendingly while she's genuinely upset). And you know how long the wedding/honeymoon/etc took? ONE WEEK. He couldn't leave Lauren alone for a week that's supposed to be one of the best times of your life because he needed to make his problematic podcast. Shane threatened not to pay her for her time as well even though she needed that money (prob another reason she left tbh). People only talk about the "sexy baby" and "SA cat" comments from the podcast, but it's full of comments that are so foul.
@@Lylah-bo9vpshe still is online, iirc she has apologized for being like a bystander when shane was being disgusting (which fair) but she DEF deserves to be doing well considering she did try to call him out but got laughed off from what ive seen
Something really important was said here: people looked up his videos online and didn't want to be associated with it. That was 2014. The narrative that his form of comedy was universally accepted is false. And shows that he has always been problematic.
He was like the most popular youtube surpassing fred so.. If u were too young to be around for it or didnt see it go down then that's that. Cancel culture was not a thing. People didnt wanna be publicly a part of it but privately watched plus his audience was young. Imo
So Anna's actors, in that very small talent pool, all "out of work actors in pittsburgh, who should be lucky to get an audition" all managed to get successful careers later... HMMMMMM
Shane Dawson really didn’t have a racist “moment” he was racist in his own time outside of his content, so I understand why people would never want to be in the movie
I watched the whole series and on one episode shane was in drag pretending to be a rude jewish woman. And at that point even Zach, the exe prod, told him to find the "line" in his comedy. Zach was very upset and horrified!
My favourite part is when Shane’s going off about Zachary and then says something along the lines of well my test audience loved it. Later one of the producers said it wasn’t a test audience cause Shane filled it with all of his friends.
And yet he still couldn’t sit there and listen to what anyone had to say…It’s sad that he doesn’t even have the kind of real, close friendships where there can be honesty and compassion at the same time.
After all this happened, Shane’s fans bullied Anna (the other director) on twitter when she tweeted that she and Zach were upset due to a rape joke in Shane’s movie. She was especially upset because she was gang raped years prior. Shane’s response was, “the rape joke isn’t even that mean”
Noelle Matteson how could you have cheated? You had to answer in depth quizzes about both movies to be able to vote, which is why I never did because I never saw the other movie.

Ikr I can't believe that, i'm a theatrical costume designer which is a little different but a huge part of the design process is recieving notes and adjusting your designs accordingly.. I can imagine it would be even more important for a director to do this
Right? Like you get a chance to make your own movie...what an insane blessing. And you think to yourself: What if I star in it? What if I can relive my high school days and portray myself as the popular guy who becomes less popular but still ends up with the girl? And my ex girlfriend can play the blind sister! It's perfect!
Yes! When he started his new persona on his channel around 3 years ago he kept complaining about not making money or having sponsors and I always thought that it was obviously because he was blacklisted because of all of these garbage that he put out there. These series just confirms that.
I wish. Too many people don't give a shit about accountability or other peoples' feelings. Shane's been getting away with shitty behavior for over a decade.

based on his recent live stream tantrum.. I don't think hes changed at all. He comes across as such a big baby and people have to walk on eggshells around him.
That’s the only way to survive when you’re someone like him. It’s a lot easier for him to put on a show as the most ✨empathetic✨ person on TMZ, and then make friends with celebrities that are untouchable so you have the defense of fans AND his friends’ fans. Even going full mask off doesn’t turn his fans against him at this point

As someone who was grossed out back then when Shane was being awful, it was a part of the culture a la South Park and Family Guy. Those were cultural touchstones during the mid 00s to early 10s. Troll culture was in full swing. Ffs, does no one remember Mr. Hands and Two Girls One Cup? Cause that was internet culture "humor" at the time. Or the "firing mah lazars" thing which was steeped in anti black racism. There were many people who hated those shows and thought they were harmful, but people still found them "funny" or "acceptable". It is not an excuse for the behavior, but an explanation when it comes to the "culture back then". People like Shane got away with his nonsense because people did not care about punching down or being genuinely vile because seeing others squirm was soooooo hilarious to them. The early 10s were when "snowflakes" and "sjws" were first coined when there started to be a vocal group of people calling out others on "shock humor". People have always actively boycotted Shane's content and he was always a divisive subject during his sketch "comedy" """days.""" But the internet moves fast and stuff gets buried quick so people don't care or even remember the old scandals if they weren't personally affected by it. That's how Shane got new fans and kept the uncaring ones.
elusive I’m glad we’ve moved past offensive for offensive’s sake “comedy”. And I’m glad we’re finally calling out creators that have made a fortune off of ridiculing marginalized people. I know there are many people who will still cry because they feel like we’re all “too sensitive now” but personally as an immigrant woman I’m glad we’re taking steps into treating others equally & not ridiculing each other for our differences.
YES 2014 was not that long ago. It's basically saying people weren't aware of these issues of racism and homophobia etc until what 2017? No, people were complicit with Shane. His fans including myself were young and did not know better. Different times is when it was decades ago. More of shane's former fans like myself need to speak out because we actually remember the atmosphere around shane
Shane is such a diva in this. A big eye opener as someone who has liked Shane these last couple years. He’s incredibly rude, self centered, and entitled.
Gotta remember this was 7 or 8 years ago. Are you the same person you were 7 years ago? I have lots of issues with shane and I can see parallels to the same behavior today but its unfair to act as though this 100% represents how he acts today.
Antisocial Socialite Shane was mid-20’s. He should’ve known better and most adults by that age know how to function around other people without being confrontational.
@@Sharpe1502 I agree that its disgusting and I never said shit like it, especially in my 20s. even though I'm only 4 years younger than shane so I grew up with the edgy joke culture too. As if its a fact is just hyperbolic nonsense unless victims/evidence come out which, as of now, none have. Im not arguing for shane im just saying throwing around words like 'predator' and 'pedophile' when that's not technically the case is counterproductive.
Antisocial Socialite No one said anything about him being a predator. It’s his tendency to be a diva, his inability to take criticism, and his overall difficulty working with people who want to help him. It’s well documented that he can’t take criticism and it’s well documented that he is confrontational. It’s not a trait that he’s worked on. Psh, look at his “Welcome to the circus” letter where he later claimed he was “Just joking” before deleting it and throwing a huge bitch fit. Dude is not a good person. He’s childish and doesn’t deserve his platform.
Fun fact: the OTHER “The Chair” movie that year, from the traditional director you mention, is called “Hollidaysburg”. It’s actually a pretty good movie, and has a 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes vs. Shane Dawson’s 14% for that POS (literally 🤢🤮) he has the audacity to call a movie. And as far as him being a young 24 when he made it-well, Orson Welles was 24 when he made Citizen Kane. Widely considered one of the greatest movies of all time. So yeah, doesn’t really apply to why he was such a bad director, not to mention a horrible person.
Isn't it funny how 6 years later, he wound up changing his humor to please others, and by 'changing', I mean masking his humour and by 'please others', I mean making money.
What wrong with making money? Do you have work? to support that idea that you didn’t change anything at work to suit your boss? Here is the same his boss is his fan base everyone needed money everyone have to be an actor to get by so what is the last point you put in trying to make?
You making it feel like making money is bad... and pleasing other also bad...? You also making a comment now to hopefully pleased somebody that have the same ideas as you (just pointing that out)
I’m no clinical psychologist, but he comes across as a vulnerable narcissist. It’s really fascinating how he tries to portray himself as a sensitive victim, when in reality he just can’t handle constructive criticism.
I think it's really telling that some actors didn't want to act in his movie because of the bigotry, but his fans claim that it was a 'different time'.
Oh I would've defended him if I was 13 and this movie came out. But then a funny thing happened. I met more people, experienced life outside of my middle school and house, and my brain and frontal lobe fully developed. Now I can't stand him or his shitty movie.

True. And I’m pretty sure that she’s the same person that was in the podcast clip, saying that she’s uncomfortable with his p*do behaviour? Even if he hadn’t been saying something so absolutely disgusting, he should have realized that she was uncomfortable. He just doesn’t give a shit. Ryland should run tbh.
Shane’s whole act is “oh I’m insecure, oh I’m humble, oh I’m quirky, oh I’m quiet and low key and nice to everyone, let me wear this robe to be relatable”. Shane behind the scenes “they’d be so lucky to even talk to me”
Yup. Only with Onision you recognize immediately he’s a douchebag. Shane masks his douchebagary. He’s been gaslighting from way back!! Wow, who is he? Really? I don’t even recognize that dude.

@@KronksLever Taylormoon So Bobby Burns was in this big move, convinced by Shane that he HAS to move to L.A. (I think he was toying with the idea of moving, but shane was convincing him that allllll the youtubers live there) which I believe is across the country from where he lived. Shane buys him a car in the series and basically manipulates Bobby and his girlfriend into thinking that this is a great idea. Bobby ends up extremely stressed, Shane asks Bobby to make a series on his channel on top of this move, and things get really rough. He made one video and it wasn't something he wanted to be doing (I think he bought boujee clothes or something?) And he never makes another video for Shane, he apparently lets Shane know that this is too much for him, he doesn't like the series already, and his mental health isn't doing well with the move. Shane never clears this up with the fans and allows the fans to BOMBARD Bobby. It goes on for days, probably weeks. Shane never tells anyone that it was agreed upon, that its okay, etc. Fans see that Bobby got a car, made one video, and "ducked out," so they harass him. His mental health gets worse. I think him and his girlfriend broke up. I believe he left L.A. Bobby then started a new "phase" of his channel where he started making more music content. Shane may have made a tweet saying "oh stop bothering Bobby its okay we just paused the series because we didn't love it uwu Bobby should make a video criticizing the Sunday series" but not all fans used snap or insta and it didn't stop the harassment. Fans still called Bobby a clout chaser and were begging shane to fire Bobby. I'm pretty sure there's still the occasional hater on Bobbys channel from the Shane fandom. Anyway, I hope Bobby is doing good. It seems like he puts a lot of work into his videos and that he's enjoying his current direction!
Onision wasn’t cause he’s delusional, but anyone who isn’t a moron could see how Shane really is all along. I still enjoyed his content, albeit poorly edited and filmed, but I knew he was a fake ass bitch the whole time
How much you wanna bet if he says anything about “The Chair” he will try to say that he was *acting* or *pretending* to be an asshole and that reality tv isn’t actually reality
Yeah or the old "it was taken out of context." I would be truly intrigued to see him try to explain exactly what context could have existed to make his behavior and words not obnoxious, unprofessional, infuriating or impossible to work with.
Yeah. I thought he was "acting" at some point like: I'm a director, an artist so I should be an asshole and a "perfectionist"; I thought he would do that to be taken seriously (even if it is a stupid move). But then we see him on interviews, etc, and he still says the same shit: his movie is great, he will not please anybody, etc. That asshole is 100% him, no acting, just him and his personality.
Did he just say "when I was an actor..."? In what world was he an actor? Auditioning doesn't make one an actor. He's an overpaid extra who's gotten EXTREMELY lucky to stay "relevant" this long because some people have really shitty taste. He's running on pity at this point.
oof you hammered the nail into the coffin lol, he is just so full of himself. Reminds me of how i write Student Council President on college resume when i was just a member of it loll
His producer, Lauren was also his podcast co-host for 2 years but they had a falling out BECAUSE of this movie and how he treated her throughout production.
Yeah! He went at his fan for suggesting to hire an editor so that he didn't have to work himself to death and she closed her Twitter account because of it.
Lol he's like every wannabe genius who refuses to "compromise their art" (aka get rid of the annoying useless padding) because they believe "every word has a deep meaning to show my intelligence" or some shit.
I think it's funny how people said Shane deserves a Netflix series. No. He's awful...and would be a monster to work with. I had no idea about this... Thanks for shedding light on it.
His documentaries aren’t good. They’re so poorly researched, fast paced and terribly edited. I hated how he mixed in Chuck E. Cheese conspiracy theory with someone’s abusive story. It just didn’t make sense to me
When he started making videos I was about 12/13. I remember watching the super early ones where he "kills Fred" and thinking it was entertaining. But literally within a year or two I hated his content, and so did most other kids i knew at my school. His core fanbase must have been even younger than I was. Which is pretty disturbing. He essentially taught an entire generation of 10 year olds that it's fine for an adult to act like this, and doing so will get you attention and even fame.
I feel like im seeing a pattern of Shane disrespecting and disregarding women (dismissing Alyssa Violet from the docuseries) How hes constantly cutting off, deferring to other the other guy when he and Laurie were talking as if she was speaking fickin in codes to him?? Also Him and Ryland throwing Tatis age at people when they arent that far a part in age themselves. Like...all im saying is pattern of behavior.
This tho, i remember in his podcast it was a running joke where he had "Farrah Abraham Time" where he would talk about what Farrah Abraham was up to that week. It was literally just him and his costar slut shaming her and mocking her apperance. His podcast was filled with misogyny, same with his youtube career. Look at all of the underaged female celebrities he would mock
Jesus Christ literally!! I think some of that comes from his mommy issues and the fact that his mom didn’t protect him from his abuse when he was younger. So he most likely views all women like that
He was a DEBUT director! What right did he think he had of being able to do whatever he wanted on his movie having no experience in the industry? Beggars can't be choosers, Shane!
Right? It's not like this was some small time indie production made in someone's backyard. You had people on set with more experience in their pinky finger than Shane's whole career. The entitlement was cringy.
yeah, the whole point was to learn and get experience, but with his attitude no wonder he hasn´t been able to do another movie, nobody wants to work with him
Same here. I feel like I learned a lot more from this show than I do from watching seasoned filmmakers behind the scenes. The filmmaking process was less polished and a lot more realistic. It was also relatable in the sense that these directors were still learning themselves. It felt like you could not only learn from their mistakes but their successes as well. Well really only Shane for the mistakes part. That’s just a crash course on what not to do.
shane saying that directors never take things out of movies is stupid. alot of the time they have to, to please the public. then they make a directors cut for their fans specifically
I just finished Star Wars and they had to keep changing the script for The Rise of Skywalker because of Carrie Fisher’s passing. They tried making her older voice lines fit into a cgi character of herself and make the script and voice lines go together. I hope that makes sense but anyway.. yeah people do that so I don’t know why he acted that way. :/
To make matters worse, I remember on his podcast, Shane said several times after the filming that people in Pittsburgh were ugly. If I remember correctly, he said “in Pittsburgh I’m a 10.”
Yeah exactly. I work in the movie industry as a sound recordist, it is CONSTANTLY that we film things that unfortunately doesn't make the cut. It's also the entire point of "deleted scenes" added to DVDs and such haha. "Kill your darlings" is the first rule of writing. Sometimes entire part of a script are erased on THE DAY we're suppose to film them. Because it doesn't work. Shane clearly didn't know anything, he's the kind of guy that get really anal about his actors saying EXACTLY the lines he wrote, no matter if they actually come up with better more emotional/funny things. A shame. Also wow, I would've quit this set so fast. I mean I worked with assholes before, but very rarely to that level.
directors cuts are typically a longer version of the film with every creative decision made by the director. in the movie business films are typically paid for by production companies which have final say to the length and scenes that make the cut or not.
watching him with his coworkers is painful. literally what communicating with a narcissist is like. impossible. they're offended at everything and deeply righteous, unwilling to compromise and they don't belong in creative/collaborative spaces for those reasons

There was something almost sexist about that, but then I remember he treated everyone like trash so yay equality I guess
I think what he said was sexist, but I think he insulted her the most bc she was the most vocal and provides the most feedback.

It's like master business manipulation. Rebranding to hide company problems.
Shane really wasn’t hearing the implied “actors would rather be flipping burgers than acting on your shitty movie”
This is itttt

@@DontTakeThisSeriously616 hey, I don't know what your gender is so I'm sorry if I'm assuming to explain this, but as a woman it's a very universal experience to have this done to you in this very specific way. Neither of us get what you're saying, so you're wrong". It's kind of hard to put in words, but the objective is to make you seem irrational, over-emotional and crazy. For real. I took note of that early on and have always trusted when onision recognize his own sociopathy in other people. It was the same with social repose.
I feel like calling it a “movie” is a little too much, it’s more like a long Shane Dawson TH-cam skit.
How he played different characters in it, made it look like one of his skits. I never really saw it as a movie, also it's crazy how it ended up on Netflix.

People have always actively boycotted Shane's content and he was always a divisive subject during his sketch "comedy" """days.""" That's how Shane got new fans and kept the uncaring ones.

Shane buys him a car in the series and basically manipulates Bobby and his girlfriend into thinking that this is a great idea. Bobby ends up extremely stressed, Shane asks Bobby to make a series on his channel on top of this move, and things get really rough. He made one video and it wasn't something he wanted to be doing (I think he bought boujee clothes or something?) Shane never clears this up with the fans and allows the fans to BOMBARD Bobby.
“It was just a joke!” :)
Or he'll say "It was edited and that made me look bad!" He's used that before.
He doesn't need to say it. Recently I saw some people claimed "he was joking" he's acting" when the comment was about this show, The Chair 🤦
Nice Homestuck Pfp
3 years later and this comment is still one of the truest comments ever made on a video about Shane Dawson.
His producer, Lauren was also his podcast co-host for 2 years but they had a falling out BECAUSE of this movie and how he treated her throughout production.
Yeah after this she disappeared and now we know why
also because she got married
bearisol that has nothing to do with it
Kiara Rose I always wondered why and now I know. My heart hurts. Poor Lauren :(
Shane’s behavior in this kind of acts as proof to Tati’s claims of him being arrogant and manipulative
Yes but I don't think she's good either she just doesn't have videos like this of her
M Bnvnd she has one btw... it’s called “bye sister”
M Bnvnd right I feel like Trisha, Jeffree, Tati and Shane are all babies who don’t deserve their platforms
r080486 nah that's a video that's released by herself. She's in full control of that and it featured zero bts
M Bnvnd yeah but the fact that he was making passes at taits age sayings shes 38 and immature when he’s 32 and doing the same thing. Is hypocritical
shane seems like the stereotypical internet personality that boomers think all youtubers are like--rude, egotistical, and stubborn.
Most are 🙃
@@k3th.b.w122 that's not true, many are, but most of the biggest youtubers aren't like that, mr beast, pewdiepie, and others
My mom thought of Shane AND Onision exactly. She said to me that they're unfunny and dumb.
@@memali2939 Wait havent Mr Beast and PewDewPie gotten loads of crticism for being terrible/do shady things?
@@CherryBlossomBlyue i know pewdiepie did, but i thought mr beast was pretty unproblematic.
And even in all his "docu-series" he still had a huge issues cutting out irrelevant content to get to the point.
Yeah! He went at his fan for suggesting to hire an editor so that he didn't have to work himself to death and she closed her Twitter account because of it.
@@filip6994 whoa really? Any source on that??
I agree I rember before he got cancelled I used to try to watch his videos and would find myself skipping through out it so he would get to the point
And the fact that most of his "documentaries" are just time wasting advertisements on the subjects. Smh
His documentaries aren’t good. They’re so poorly researched, fast paced and terribly edited. I hated how he mixed in Chuck E. Cheese conspiracy theory with someone’s abusive story. It just didn’t make sense to me
He’s definitely not going to get a Netflix series now, especially after Jada Smith called him out.
Kids said that lol. Not adults.
He essentially taught an entire generation of 10 year olds that it's fine for an adult to act like this, and doing so will get you attention and even fame.
this is a criminally underviewed video. your research rocks, my guy
Right?? So good!!
Nick is a great youtuber 😊
Facts! I accidentally stumbled across this and I didn’t even know he had a mini-docu series about his movie
I watched the whole thing with no skipping. That's rare for me
“A movie only date-rapists, racists, and sociopaths could love”
Ha ha Ha! And your name! It's PERFECT!
lmfaoooooo i yelled
bruh i feel so bad bc i used to love shane when i was younger (like 12/13) and this movie was my favorite just bc shane was in it
I bet Jeffree loves it
Maybe since Shane is two of the three that’s why he likes his movie.
I've been in a test audience. I didn't care if I hurt the feelings of writers, directors, actors..... to me the point is to help make a better movie
So he most likely views all women like that
He’s straight up gaslighting Laurie in that bit
Daddy's Whittle Gwoblin yes! He acted the same way toward Jessie, his second podcast host
Most males are sexist but a lot of gay/bi males seem to really hate women more openly. Maybe because they are jealous?
He was a DEBUT director! What right did he think he had of being able to do whatever he wanted on his movie having no experience in the industry? Beggars can't be choosers, Shane!
Right? It's not like this was some small time indie production made in someone's backyard. You had people on set with more experience in their pinky finger than Shane's whole career. The entitlement was cringy.
yeah, the whole point was to learn and get experience, but with his attitude no wonder he hasn´t been able to do another movie, nobody wants to work with him
"Not Cool" was a terrible movie. Even as a teenager I couldn't finish watching it.
Me too, it wasn't funny, it more shocking than funny
Me too omg. It was disturbing
I watched that movie but I guess it must've been kinda boring or something because I didn't even remember that I had watched it until right now
I watched it i loved it Hahaha
@@Xeno-z9d ew...
On an unrelated note, it's such a shame because as a filmmaker, I love the concept of 'The Chair.' Wish is lasted longer than 1 season.
He's so rude and horrible to everyone around him during this that it's hard to beleive that this disrespectful attitude has been grown out of.
Maybe it wasn't, maybe he just fakes it..
After his instagram live reaction to Tati's newest video.. he's not grown as a person in my opinion ..
Maybe this is why he got ridiculously offended when people asked Shane to employ other editors to help get his videos out faster
I WAS JUST THINKING THIS
shane saying that directors never take things out of movies is stupid. alot of the time they have to, to please the public. then they make a directors cut for their fans specifically
exactly, that’s the first thing i thought of. like has he not heard of directors cut lmao
Or for time or just to make it more streamline
I just finished Star Wars and they had to keep changing the script for The Rise of Skywalker because of Carrie Fisher’s passing. They tried making her older voice lines fit into a cgi character of herself and make the script and voice lines go together. I hope that makes sense but anyway.. yeah people do that so I don’t know why he acted that way. :/
They have to cut certain things out due to time cuts and other things. Directors cut shit all the time.
Exactly!!!
To make matters worse, I remember on his podcast, Shane said several times after the filming that people in Pittsburgh were ugly. If I remember correctly, he said “in Pittsburgh I’m a 10.”
and he still aged like milk. karma at its finest.
I know this comment of mine is late, but I just felt the need to say that I am from Pittsburgh and the people here are downright *gorgeous*
“I’m An EmPaTh!” - Shame “Yaw” Dawson
Ok, as someone who is from Pittsburgh, he’s a -10 at best
Shane is not a "10" in any of the dimensions or universe🙄🤣🤣please
If directors never take things out of movies, then what are “director’s cut” editions?
This guy thought he was better then ZACH QUINTO srsly?!
RIGHT?
I remember my dumb 14 year old self hating Zachary quinto bc of the shit shane made up about him. Made him seem like he was the villain
This fool really thought he could take on Spock/Sylar/Nosferatu ??? Somebody get Shane some non-slip shoes because he is clearly trippin'
@@bananaboatcharlie Shane's actions were succinctly put, illogical.
@@El1society when I was a Shane fan, I was also a Zachary fan but when I heard about this, I was like "hm... Yeah, Zachary has a point-"
He acted like that to the producer which was his “friend” imagine how he acts towards people he doesn’t like lmao
Yeah, he plots the end of their career by accusing them of sexual assault and then says that was just giving them a slice of humble pie 👀
Lmao is was also gonna say James 😂
@@papongpapong1047 i used to be very edgy and cringey like him...and even *_I_* was shook of his description
watching him with his coworkers is painful. literally what communicating with a narcissist is like. impossible. they're offended at everything and deeply righteous, unwilling to compromise and they don't belong in creative/collaborative spaces for those reasons
they'll never grow creatively bc they're unwilling to handle criticism
