This was great! I enjoyed it immensely! But how about adding some captions, dates for each painting? Henry (UK)

    1:41 Machete-wielding dream maiden 🗡
Also, why are his subjects’ heads almost always tilted? Once you see it, you can never unsee it. Was it to give a sense of kinetic movement?

Many of his paintings are of the Virgin Mary holding and adoring her baby, Jesus, often surrounded by angels. The attention of all those in the painting is focused on the baby, and often they are looking down toward him in his mother's lap. The religious significance of the pose is humility and worship. In the case of the Virgin, it also shows her acceptance of the role God has assigned to her, her loving and willing obedience. The paintings of the Annunciation also show the Virgin with her head bowed as she accepts the Angel Gabriel's message of what God intends for her. Also, women in that era (and for many centuries before and afte) were valued for their qualities of humility and patience and obedience (as well as chastity and honor, of course), and the bent head and tranquil expression demonstrate the virtues of the Virgin or female saints. In Botticelli's portraits of real people, men (often three-quarters profile or full face) and women, often in profile or occasionally three-quarters profile, the head is held erect. Also, in at least some of the mythological portraits, the head of Venus and the goddess Flora are held erect, because as goddesses they have a position of power! And the picture of Judith and her maid marching triumphantly along with the head of Holophernes (I think it's Judith), they don't tilt their heads; Judith is proud as the heroine of her race, and her maid has to bear the salver with the head on her head.
I recommend the National Gallery video on the portrait of a young man by Botticelli, which I have just viewed, and in which the art historian or curator gives a very good explanation of the conventions for portraits in that era.
