im at 6:29 and 100% agree with you on the clip! im having a blast watching though. thanks for checking this out! Interesting you can front flip it. I cant lol. EDIT - finished the video. great insights. glad you like it!
@@chelseapeters7187we are definitely going to implement a different locking system for distant future versions of Excalibur, but I can't really elaborate on that just yet because we are still doing a lot of testing. I'll upload a video when it's time to talk about it 😉
Yeah, that clip is a bit tight and sharp. Definitely the only disappointing thing about it. Had I gotten a chance to check out the prototype and it had this clip, I would have 100% noticed this and recommended a softer edge and a little more flexibility. Because it is a Timascus, I cannot modify this sadly.
Well, 2 things… I recorded this late, so I had to be quiet… I’m always quieter when I record at night. Secondly, 2 big boxes were lost by the post office. They are still lost and were very big packages. This box was here a couple of days ago and then back to Dallas and finally was delivered to me. Very annoying, so I was still bugged by that. But mainly, it was late and I had to be quiet.
The knife is so NICE & its pretty expensive so it is a SHAME that they didn't make sure the Clip was PERFECT but maybe MC will see this & address it OR knowing MC maybe he has a reason for it being sharp Thanks for the review Rob !
This is a beautiful knife. I've just had my fill of titanium frame locks over the last few decades. Now when we get a crossbar version, different story.
Then you found your knife and you know the Excalibur is not for you. I like Vosteed and it is an excellent budget brand alternative if you do not like integrals and do not care for an extra premium knife. I sometimes like both, though I tend to giveaway any budget knife I buy or own.
The porcupine is a much smaller knife. It has a 3in blade vs the Excalibur which has a 3.5in. The Excalibur also weight almost twice as much. The porcupine is cool but it’s nothing like the Excalibur in build, materials, design, or price.
Cant wait to get mine already! I couldn't decide on which finish to get so I ordered both, the DLC and the satin versions. I received an email on Jan. 4 that it has been shipped, but I still haven't received them :(
Mine is on the way. Can't wait to get it. I like wire clips a lot actually. That being said I hope the clip doesn't bother my hands because it's a good looking clip. Such a great knife design really. Simple but elegant.
Not really for what you get. I’m not saying it’s a budget knife but I have knives between $600-$1500. I carry them all, so I consider this a good price and a nice knife to carry and use. To be fair, 3-5 years ago, I was so shocked to spend $100 then $200 then $300 on a knife.
Wow is it Metal Complex the designer of this Kunwu? I can't believe it's he.Superb design from him, I really love this spear point shape of the blade and the Vanax steel, just phenomenally.
@@Robs_Nerdy_Knives just for me. I am OCD about these things. I loved the stonewashed and satin versions. I love to use both and keep one in pristine condition. I do this with all my knives. So two of each. 😂
I get it that this MC’s wet dream, its a nice knife, not tempting me but nice. A hard magnacut instead of Vanax -$50, the integral I’d be happy to lose, -$75-100. Look forward to more budget versions. Hey how about internal relief on framelock. Great choice choosing KUNWU.
And from what I have heard, all of those things will be coming, which I think will make a lot of folks happy. By the way, an Integral would be very hard to mill internally for weight relief. Typically integrals are just heavier.
I love everything about this knife but I agree the pocket clip is bad. Like the way it looks but it’s way too sharp. I’m surprised this was not considered during production. Still glad I got one.
Absolute banger of a knife it feels so good in hand. Unfortunately I feel the same way with the pocket clip. Just not goood in and out of the pocket. I’ll try another kunwu clip if all else fails the wire clip will suffice 😂
I haven't read the comments yet but I just wanted to make sure that its clear that MC made sure his design would accommodate ANY Kunwu clip. I haven't handled it yet but it sounds like its a home run aside from the clip that can be swapped...i kinda like the short clip even if its sharp though cus lets be honest.... Are you hard using this knife every day? Im a tradesman and carry a Vision FG. The pocket clip is garbage and the spine of the knife is hot spot central but im not and very few of us are bearing down on the Excalibur or Vision FG or any other pocket knife often enough for this to be a real problem. If it is then switch the clip. No worries!
Yup, this was discussed and I am aware… I have already because looking for a replacement, so I can keep the knife. Typically, I just fix this myself, but this is not possible with DLV or Timascus. MC also replied and did acknowledge that the clip will likely be revised and revisited. I appreciate that.
I like it. Looks nice and sounds nice. Its a bummer about the clip. I often find that the pocket clip can make or break how much i carry a knife. But it seems like a very nice knife. Im glad you told Mr. Nothing nice to say whats what. Opinions are ok. Being a jerk, is not.
Great video Rob! and it is cool to see MC in the comments taking a few jabs and adding his thoughts. My DLC version arrived January 5th and it has been my daily carry since. I felt like my clip was a bit tight but I tweaked it a bit to relax some of the tension and it worked much better. To be 100% honest, I haven't considered sharpness before watching your video because I never ran any fingers into the clip while flicking and breaking the action in (several hundred times by now) so it has not been a factor for me at all. I don't think mine is as sharp as yours is though. I can see where you demonstrated how yours can shave your nail, but do your fingers run into it while using it? I prefer the existing design cause it is so short that it isn't felt in hand when gripping. I did test the other Kunwu (flat) Ti clips and (flat) Timascus clips and both work easily, so those are good options and anyone that has upgraded their other Kunwu clips will have extras on hand already. I have a Tuya/Skelton Caladan and a SBD mini Evo that both clips are sharp as hell, and those are longer so I do run into them while using the knife...so I know why folks are focused on it. Keep up the great content and I will look for your full review later on!! Take Care!
So, the issue comes from the curvature of the back of the clip. The arc on the outside is latterly a structure used to increase support strength and reduce flexibility. The edge is always important and what defines a premium custom knife maker from an okay custom knife maker. It is the very little details that can make a knife an evergreen product or ruin it before it even had a chance.
I like it a lot. Especially that its in adult size. But I will be waiting for the "budget" version. I would prefer a faux integral. IF they could get the fit and finish of a faux integral so good you cant tel that would make it even more impressive to me. And the premium handle and hardware arent all that important to me.
While I do enjoy this as a carry, the Tristache I like so much more(even though I can't thumb flick it, but the reverse flick and front flipper work great). Not poo pooing this knife though as it is pretty sweet.
