This episode was absolutely hilarious Ranma getting beaten for nothing to get rid of Ryoga and Akane accepting her short hair without blaming the ending scene between Ranma Akane was cute
TBF, Ranma cared for Akane, and that's why he doesn't want her to butt into the fight with Ryoga, because it's dangerous... But Ranma has a word choice problem lmao.
Yes. Ranma being as he is because he was on the road for so long and away from his mom. Basically he didn't have his mom around to teach him to be polite (because surly Genma won't do it).
This is what I love about Akane's hair when it's cut, she's like a different person a more mature and beautiful person. Notice how her long hair looked so heavy like it's a weight on her to try and act girly for her crush to notice her. Once her hair is cut, she no longer has to hide her tomboy self and she's more beautiful because of it. I also like how 3 dimensional her short hair is like you can see all sides of it from front to side to side you don't know if it's side or front. This haircut is the starting point of her and Ranma's relationship he sees her cuter side and Akane let's go of her old crush and focuses on someone who sees her for her tomboy, cuteness, short hair and all
I also like how after her hair cut we get ranma mumbling his love for Akane I actually really like it but I also hope they change some thing later on to be more in line with the remake story. I honestly think with the route they are gonna need to get togeather a little earlier than in the original or atleast have a better reason for not having a full blown relationship after a certain point
It is rather self-centered of Ryoga. It’s certainly not reasonable to expect everyone to just be on his crazy schedule. Then again, this is not a series known for its reasonable characters.
The haircut accident is a realization for Akane that no matter how much she changes, Dr. Tofu will never return the affection she wants from him. I’m glad she moved on from her old crush, and start developing feelings for Ranma. Ranma saying Akane is cute with her hair short because he knows that’s her true self.😊Plus, him remembering that Akane worries about him made him realize Akane is a kind person. Akane got her revenge on the “gotcha” from 3rd episode 😂😂😂.
At the time Ryoga was first written by Ms Takahashi, potbellied pigs as pets was a raging fad. They typically weigh between 70-200 pounds and stand 14-20 inches tall at the shoulder
My head canon is that the pig who drowned in the spring was a potbellied pig, but since they weren't known as such 1200 years ago it was just called the Spring of Drowned Black Piglet. The idea of a Spring that sets age, as well as species and/or gender, just sounds over complicated to me.
@@richardryley3660 I'll try not to spoil it, but in a story arc that would be anime seasons away but before only appeared in the manga, there is an explain for how so many of the springs came to have a wide variety of cursed creatures (and in another arc that is manga only, somebody is cursed to animate an idol when wet)

10:52 The fact that you had to explain how dangerous this scene can get made it even more hilarious. Also Ryoga is a simp for sure, but only for Akane. He does not give a F about Ranma's lady bits.
Well, I watched the first Ranma series so I already knew about the nature of Ryouga's curse, but the reveal was handled pretty well I think. This remake seems a bit faster paced than the earlier anime which has been a mixed bag overall, but didn't bother me for this episode. Other notes: - Dr. Tofu *does* like Akane, just not in the way she likes him. - Ryouga's bandanas do have tiger stripes, but that's part of a broader 'oni' motif with the character - something we also saw in Urusei Yatsura...
@@SakuraAvalon yes it has a lot of filler but it has so much more animation and they fleshed out things a lot too, much more detail, this one although has selected scenes with very(more) fluid animation, most of the scenes are static and simple, they even simplify the fights by stylizing them( one color shadows), it is basically the manga animated. the original actually never finished it was cancelled, so they made a final episode were the characters just say goodbye at the end.
OG anime atleast for the 1st season adapted like 2 chapters per episode, This remake adpated 3-4 chapters per episode. Well, that's only for the first season, until it was cancelled and became nettohen, where they overcorrected and went too fast, it caught to the manga.
@@danriu Nah, it didn't have "more animation" It relied on the classic animation shortcuts. Like go back and watch where Akane got her hari Cut, DEEN's just "literally" cut the scene to "animate" it getting cut, while MAPPA here properly animated her hair getting cut.
Let's start by talking about how quickly the story progressed: the OG was animated two years after the original story began. At that time, I was trying not to catch up with the original work (The same goes for Dragon Ball and One Piece). Therefore, the remake is a historical fact to the original work and does not add unnecessary original elements. This is why it feels faster compared to OG. And it also needs to be made according to modern values. If the tempo is slow and the story doesn't progress easily, it will be cut off in the middle. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the need for a fast pace. The second topic is that the OG was terminated. The reason for the change from “Ranma 1/2” to “Ranma 1/2 Nettōhen” was due to poor viewer ratings, which led to changes in the staff and other adjustments to the work, as well as a change in the broadcast time slot. The reason for the change from “Ranma 1/2” to “Ranma 1/2 Nettōhen” is because of the poor ratings. The production of the animation was not interrupted.Kitty Film, the production company of “Urusei Yatsura” and “Maison Ikkoku,” also changed the production company and changed the main staff.
I cracked the hell up when Panda father arrives and sees ranma female form with a random dude, naked and was just like "Sorry..." No questions asked The most progressive father ever XD
This is the dumbest most oblivious town ever! A panda sweeping and working as an assistant to the chiropractor? Sure! A girl transforming into a guy in your arms? Where did she go? A girl pops in place of a guy wearing his same clothes and rocking his hair? Where did the coward go? 😂😂 Also shoutout to the doggy, so goofy i laughed way more than i should at the dog
RYOGA revealing his curse form. An adorable little piglet 🐷😍. I want a stuffed animal of his pig form so bad. I love how he keeps his bandana on his curse form.
In the OG series, Ranma at one point says “Geez, it was only your hair!”, which only makes things worse. Genma offers fatherly advice to his son, recalling the time he lost his own girl by insensitive words, when he was the same age: “I’ve…found someone else.” “Is she prettier than me?” “Well, yes, actually-“. “*POW!*”
If I'm not mistaken the transformations do not age so Ryoga will always turn into a piglet just like how Ranma will always turn into a young girl even if he grows into an old man.
Not.. quite. There are two counter examples which demonstrate that the curse does grow. 1: Pantyhose Taro. Cursed as a newborn, and the curse grew up with him. 2: The bust battle. Ranma's girl form goes up a size. You could also count the mushrooms of time, I suppose, but that's potentially two kinds of magic mixing together, so not sure it should count.
Yeah, episode 1 says they’re 16 and 19. My best guess is that Akane’s in 6th grade in the flashback, with her shortness and “childlike” appearance exaggerated for the sake of the scene, while Kasumi’s in 10th grade (high school first year). Still makes Tofu’s crush weird!
They're 5 years apart. If Kasumi was in first year of high school, then we can asume Akane was in her 5-6th grade in that flashback. If it was 10 years+ apart, then Kasumi wouldn't wear a highschool attire.
Yeah, I think Akane is a late bloomer, while Kasumi in that same scene looks significantly younger, but is still a teenager. I would guess Kasumi is fifteen, while Akane is 12. Note that Tofu having a crush on Kasumi when she is that young explains his madness. It's a defense mechanism against pursuing a girl that is underage. My best guess for Tofu in that scene is he's 18 or 19. He could be as old as 21.
I wanted one thing from this episode. To see Genma-Panda with Ryoga-Piglet in his hand, skipping along towards the Jusenkyo Guide's place like in the old show.
lol you should watch the eps 9+10 of the OG series even for comparison, which cover this one episode. many extra scenes and some like the one in the bathtub are done much better :D . This is one of funniest parts of Ranma :DDD
It does track with why Ranma would be particularly convinced that the dog was Ryoga. “Not only did this dog appear when he disappeared, but also looks really dumb. Must be Ryoga!”
Its not boiling water its just warm water like the bath doesnt need to be boiling to turn them back so you probably also dont need to boil the water it was only boiling in the first episode otherwise ranma doesnt want to use it all the time to turn back if it was boiling
Rumiko Takahashi was directly asked that question at comic con years ago. Her answer was more or less “I don’t like to think about that, and neither should you”
Yeah, that's what I was going to say in my review. It's obvious by something that is shown at the end of the manga that Takahashi intended for the curse to be "fully functional", so to speak, but Ranma would never have any interest in trying it out. It does put many of the close calls he gets into in a different light, though. Ranma himself does have some nightmares about having kids. So he's at least aware of it.
This is pretty much the provocative part of Dr. Tofu's crush on Kasumi. It's more acceptable at their current ages. He does seem to be somewhat in control of himself, though, so it's been getting worse over the years.
Yeah the curses are the shows Shōnen “gimmick”, for lack of a better term, sort of how like One Piece has the devil fruits or FMA has different kinds of alchemists.
Nooooooo! I'm mad as heck! Ryoga fell into one of the pools in China that transform him into a pig is messed up. He should have fallen in a pool where he also turn into a girl. That would have been a whole lot better story line. I am so disappointed with that part of the storyline.
Characters is this show lack common sense. But it's part of the narrative deal to enjoy the show. How's possible Ranma didn't notice Ryoga's trademark bandana on the pig? I understand that Ranma feels guilty for Ryoga and wants to keep his secret, but seeing Ryoga abusing the situation, anyone would say "in that case, shame on you!". But these absurd situations allow us to get smiles for a long time, so who cares if they don't make sense!
