  • Sola Scriptura disproves most elements of Protestant doctrines. Practicing Sola Scriptura correctly should lead you out of Protestantism and towards Catholicism. This is pt. 1 using Matthew 5:13ESV to disprove the Protestant doctrine of 'Total Depravity'.

as i see the problem with differences between protestant and catholic views on salvation is that catholic believers demand good works for them to see if a person is saved or not. But only God knows the heart and if person fully relies on Christ for salvation, or not. We just can't judge if people are saved or not

@@Ericmccabe1917 My brother- in- law is a roman catholic and he told us verbatim that in order to be married he had to confess and then proclaim over 50 hail maries. Im sorry but no amount of prayer or actions on mans part will ever *earn* him the kingdom of god. The just man must live by faith alone.
"Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith." - Habakkuk 2:4

@@dannydorito2954 you are just simply misinterpreting. As a recent Christian I've found this to be one of the biggest issues for converters. People don't understand that the spirit requires discipline say way our body require discipline to maintain a healthy body, and our minds require discipline to avoid filth from being our first thoughts. The psychological aspects of confession are brilliant and the concept is used today in secular psychotherapy. The hail Mary's, same way used in the rosary prayer, require meditating and reflecting on Christ's life. And the catholic church values the sacrament of penance along with many other sacraments as one of the disciplines needed to strengthen the spirit and faith. Example, you can workout, but if you don't eat right you won't be healthy. Likewise you can confess, but if you don't repent the confession does nothing. These are disciplines that the church uses to guide you to strengthen your spirit but ultimately rely on you to do yourself the favor of wanting to get closer to God.

    My view on Matthew 5.13.
Lets start by reading the whole passage which spans form verse 13 through to 16.
Jesus calls the disciples the salt of the earth but it doesn't end there it goes on to say they are the light of the world. He says yet again no one light a lamp and sets it under a table. Check this, a disciple is a follower of someone or a practice okay. Jesus in this sermon is talking to his followers, those that follow him wholeheartedly we can see that in the first and second verse.
The sermon on the mount is not a sermon to unbelievers but to those who follow Christ, it teaches us how to live. Yes it was also spoken to a large crowd but by what he says we can tell those words were meant for followers. He teaches to correct our ideologies and thoughts and align them to his will. Every single topic goes on to that.
So then no one is salt except like the disciples they follow Christ. When you follow Christ he starts a fire in you which he calls light. Because you are set apart and not like the rest of the world do these things in this sermon, preserve the world through preaching of the word and good works. If he was telling them as they are "you are the salt" then how do u qualify the later part "if salt loses its saltiness"? How can you lose what you don't have?
I just thought I submit what looked like gaps in your presentation.

We come together on the first day of the week to take the lords supper and worship our maker and savior. We share the gospel with others and do our best to walk in light. We preach the message of reconciliation as stated in 2 Cor 5 and baptism for the remission of sins just as Peter in did Acts 2:38.
If it’s taught in the New Testament then we apply it. If it’s not, then we reject it or at least leave it to personal judgment call of the individual Christian.

The Bible doesnt prove religion, it doesnt even prove to be right in every aspect.. What it does though is to prepare ways to spiritually discern truth from deception, enablling people to detect truth in, through and beyond religion.

We cant be holy on our own, and even though we do a few good works, it doesn't eliminate the fact that we have sin in us. Who does? Jesus removes that bondage and helps us start anew. He gives us the strength to do it.
THE MOMENT WE DARE TRUST OUR OWN STRENGTH IS WHEN WE FALL.
