They absolutely CAN change because they are in control of their actions, and saying that they can’t is the one of reasons people stay when it is detrimental to them. They CAN change, but if they haven’t already it’s because they don’t want to, and that’s not a safe environment to stay in while you wait for them to make up for it. They always apologize and feel so bad and will never do it again, and they always do it again. Not because they can’t help it, because they don’t care enough to try.

It’s sad but there is no other option available. Mother murdered, monster also dead. Maternal grandparents also not available - granma died and grand dad is sick. And her sister most probably due to financial struggles couldn’t take care of their own sick father, let alone raise deceased sister’s 2 kids additionally to her own kids. So paternal grandparents seems to be only option.

As tragic as it was that LaMu passed from her injuries, the amount of pain and suffering she would have had to endure during recovery would be indescribable. Severe burns are incredibly painful and difficult to treat and recover from, and at 90%, she'd never have a pain-free day in her life ever again. I'm Hmong, and in my culture when you marry a Hmong man, it doesn't matter if he abuses you, neglects you, if you run to your parents and family for help, they tell you "Ua Siab Ntev" which means to be patient. If anything, your family blames you for the way your husband is to you.

@@Isabella-vx3bc sadly this seems to be more than just an individual case in the current 20-35 year old generation in asia. The hard lives the parents and grandparents lived through seems to have prompted an unhealthy fixated mindset of 'i must provide for my child and never have them live through what I did'. Often this means they will give their children anything they want and whatever the kids asks for, they are determined to spoil the kids with the childhood they wish themselves had, with no limits.
Sounds sweet at first but it comes at the costs of giving the child a sense of entitlement to everything- and they start thinking that if another person doesn't immediately drop everything to cater for their needs, this person must be doing wrong and must be somewhat malicious against them.
On top of this, China's whole one child policy back in those days really didn't help. not to judge a country, just a sociological observation, the combination of the economic growth in the past decades in combination with the parents' over compensation of love for their only child seems to have produced too many entited mama's boys/ daddy's little princess/ brats in general who have zero regard of others simply because they did not have to consider other people during their entire upbringing, and always got what they wanted.
It is a social problem now.

I didn't know this woman, but listening to the story, and watching her appreciate the noodles she was eating, her being so appreciative of the sunlight, and finding things to be grateful for makes me feel like this was a good woman. I cried multiple times during this video. It's extremely sad. The man who did this was a low form of human life. He never deserved a beautiful woman like her in the first place. She was beautiful on the inside and the outside. May God bless her soul. May God bless her family and let them find some peace.

The fact that people are hearing her story now, seeing and appreciating the light of a person she was…I hope her soul is out there somewhere smiling and feeling happy because she has brought a smile to our faces with her genuine joy for life. I’d like to think that has brought comfort to her soul, and maybe even comfort to her family, too.

Abusers don't change, They just pretend to woo you back in their web. I was in an abusive marriage for 11 years. My ex-husband would do the same thing as this monster did to her. Get on his knees and beg for me to forgive him for beating me. Yes, I would forgive him over and over, Until one day he beat me so severely that he almost took my life. As police officers came to my rescue there was a female officer. She saw my condition and she immediately put me in her patrol car and rushed me to the hospital. She didn't want to wait for an ambulance. As I was laying on the hospital bed in the ER she began to weep and told me "Please never go back to your husband because he will do this you you again and next time you probably won't be lucky to be alive". She also told me that she became a police officer because she was also abused by her husband for many years and she wanted to protect other women in the same situations as she was so she became a police officer. I took her advice and I never returned to my ex again. I am now married to someone else. I couldn't have made a better decision that night in the hospital to finally leave that monster for good.

Lamu's sister should've been given custody of the children the way all of this was handled is just so mind boggling! how could they allow the family of the man who murdered her to raise those children? He did this thinking that he would get away with it which goes to show how entitled and vile he really was. The poor woman suffered at his hands and the police did nothing to protect her it's infuriating.

I believe the court did this depending on the financial stability of the husband's family. they don't think about how that might affect the kids emotionally or mentally as much as they care if they were provided for. And considering that LaMu's family does no longer have a house and the grandfather is elderly and ill and the sister has enough on her plate the court decided that's what is best for the kids. I just hope they are brought up better than their father.

Hello Kenzie, sometimes understanding is painful and frightening itself.
Please, I want to share a little bit of truth. It's actually a big truth yet there is far more truth to know even in a dark world.
Every single person is broken from birth. There is truly evil in this world. And there are definitely choices to be made. Just like one small match can burn down a forest one small thought if not put Out of the mind can change and destroy it. People are beyond rules, it's punishment that restrains some people. Others choose to know right from wrong and do right. Their goal is not to avoid pain. Instead their goal is to do right.
I have chosen God of the bible. It's impossible to be as good as a perfect and holy God. Within God is Jesus and within Jesus is God and the Holy Spirit is the personality of both.
Understand if you will that it absolutely is the grace of God that anyone is sane enough to express love in any meaningful way.
I told someone once that I didn't know if I could handle heaven. He thought it was a strange thing to say. I explained that I have seen so much meanness, lack of care, suffering, pain, hostility in this world and just didn't think there was any way I could figure out or in any way be able to exist there.
And just as I was finishing those words this thought came into my mind and I spiritually recognized it as good.
THE BIBLE is not a book about avoiding hell. It's a book about preparing for heaven.
And just as they heard that thought I knew I had my answer

Tong’s description on how he treated LaMu matches how my dad treated my mom. My father would sometimes break things or throw things at my mom. Even while cooking he would throw things like a *hot* pot of beans.. or a spoon. There was this one particular time he made my mothers wardrobe fall and when my mom tried helping put it back up he pushed the wardrobe towards her! I had 911 on speed dile. But I didn’t have the guts to do it. Sometimes my mom had to go somewhere and she would leave me with my younger brother. My dad would leave my TODDLER brother crying in his room until my mom came home, refusing to give him water, he just smacked him. (Obviously he would only hit him once.) I prayed that they would divorce one day and one day we just moved with my uncles when my mom saw me crying when we had to go back “home”… LaMu’s story broke my heart. Please please pleassse!! When you said 90% burns, I just knew she wouldn't survive anyway. God bless her soul.
We had a chemical house fire and lost everything, but my partner saved my life by getting it off me and trying to stomp it out without realising he didn't have shoes on.
We We trapped in the second story bedroom, and both had to jump out the window.
He had 30-40% full thickness (3rd and 4th degree) burns to his body.
He was lucky to live, and they had to separate toes as they melted together with the socks and jeans, etc.
When I heard her percentage, I knew she wouldn't survive....if she did survive, would she want to live like that with 90% burns? Just imagine the life long pain with no nose mouth, ears etc.
    Just tragic.
I kiss my partners scars as I love them.
He has to have ketamine showers, skin grafts, etc.
This was the height of the pandemic.
We lost everything but are grateful as we had our lives, so my heart goes out to her family, but just think, "Would she want to live like she would've been?" Hopefully, that would give you peace.
Burns, especially chemical burns, are nothing to play about with... please be careful out there people even with nail varnish remover.

Yea the amount of anxiety I get everytime I saw people on the internet putting fire near chemicals that already has clear instruction to not be put anywhere near fire yet refuses to just go take a quick look of those warnings and just go on about their day or already knew the risks and still go on for clicks like 😶
On the other note, I hope you and your partner's in a better situation now and I wish for your happiness both 💜

@loger_2floofyboogaloo278 They gave him Ketamine and madazolam.
So you're totally awake, but you don't know what you're doing.
They scrub, and I mean scrub the burns before you can have skin grafts, and this happens every day.
They give you madazolam to try and calm you and ketamine to take away those short-term traumatic memories of the scrub, which it does, to be honest.

In a better place now, this happened at the height of lockdown so nobody could help is like the red cross council etc.
We lost everything but we are all alive and that's all that matters.
We used to keep deodorant in the bedroom drawer but don't even do that now because it exploded in the fire.
People don't realise how flammable some chemicals are.
The fire only has to lick you for a second and you're done for because it's so hot.
Thank you for the comments people.

Great video! Great cover of this case. I wanted to add that when I was married in Louisiana back in 2012, they made me “cool off” For 6 weeks while trying to divorce my abusive husband. I wasn’t even trying to get any money, I wanted nothing from him, I just wanted to stop the abuse and control… 6 weeks… I didn’t change my mind. It’s an absurd law.

I am a domestic violence survivor.. I wanted to say that you are right. When you are so broken , the pain that you feel literally takes your breath away. It's your soul that hurts ,a pain you would not wish on your enemy. When you feel stripped , you've lost everything, as weird as it sounds, the only thing you can do is smile and laugh a little because if you don't, you give in to the darkness. The darkness consumes you, and most do not make it through to see the light.

For the most part, marriage in the developed world is obsolete unless you need citizenship. The perks from marrying someone from your own country aren't that great. If kids weren't getting brainwashed into accepting the idea they will be married one day if they want a family almost nobody would be getting married.

    • @Notyourcupoftea_

Well, if 30 days is so terrifying, than go to Norway, where so called cooling period is 2 years, or Australia or Germany where it is 1 year. Or cause it’s all Western countries , not on US political agenda so voices of women from there don’t deserve to be heard?
It has nothing in common with this cooling period since in law is clearly stated isn’t supposed to apply to those divorces involving domestic violence.
It’s about certain type of men who treat women like commodity and think they have all rights to owe them, treat them and take their life away! And these man exist in every country and women are suffering from them! It’s so stupid to shift responsibility for this horrific crime from a monster and his disgusting family to cooling down law that has nothing to do in here since they were divorced and didn’t live together.

I agree with you! And ‼️ 40:00 I respectfully disagree that people can change. It takes a MASSIVE amount of time, energy, and self-discipline to make even the smallest lifestyle changes such as eating healthier or exercising more, or drinking less soda. A small lifestyle change like that is so difficult that within three months 87% percent of people are back to their old habits. Something like 96% of people have given up on their New Year's resolution by April. So if most people fail to make even a tiny change like that permanent, imagine how much more difficult it would be to make a huge personality change. It would take an unfathomable amount of time, effort, energy, dedication and self-discipline to make a HUGE personality and moral change that would be necessary for someone like the husband to become a good person. It just isn't possible. I just don't think it's possible for people to really change all that much. Only a very small minority of people are even able to make superficial lifestyle changes to begin with. I literally do not believe it is possible for a monster to change into a good person. Even if they desperately want to. Even if they truly have good intentions. They just aren't capable of it. Your personality is pretty much set in stone. Medication to physically change your brain chemistry, and YEARS of intensive therapy is 100% required for something like that to even have a small possiblity of success. And even with all of that, the majority of people will fail to change permanently.

The thing with abusing people that change you said in the middle of the video really hit home.
I grew up with a abusiv mum and I ended up in the psychiatry because of all the sheit I endured.
But after a year apart I realised that she was just as desperate and miserable as I was in that situation and that does not excuse it but I understood. Since 2 years we are trying to mend our relationship and I'm so proud of her. She came so far and the scars I got from my childhood almost heald by now. She was always there for me since and of course sometimes she has a bad day and she does toxic stuff. But she now talks about it. She learned to talk things out and solve toxic situations.
I'm proud of her and she is a good example for a abusiv person who can grow and heal. Behind those people often are deeply traumatized people who need to work on themselfs first. And it can work but its not easy. I wish anyone who is hurting that they reach out. Go out there and work on yourself. Because if you dont, you'll maybe be the reason someone feels the same way you do because of you. It's getting better, I promise❤

My family member has NPD (not the type that believes top much of themself, but the type that has extremely low self esteem) and they have also done a lot of work to get better. Their childhood was a torturous hell and NPD was caused by the trauma. I'm so proud. I love them so much. They have seen a lot of trouble and gone through a lot to get to this point.
There's still issues, there's still moments when I have to just keep my mouth shut and force myself to understand, but it's not as serious and scary anymore.
People can change. And I don't see a reason to hold grudge, when we can enjoy this relationship and my future children will have one close relative more, something I never had.
Much of life is healing from something. Back when I was a child they were healing from their wounds and I was stepped on in the process. It was not right and it was not my fault, but even with knowing that I can still understand their circumstances.
I'm in therapy now and I will stop the generational cycle of abuse when I have my children. No more. Me and my family member will end it with us and the next generation will not have to carry these same wounds anymore. And I'm proud of that.

“I don’t wanna make it seem like people can’t change. I think that it’s very hard for abusive people to change. I’m sure if they truly, truly wanted to, and if they truly, truly wanted to put in the work, they can change, but that really doesn’t mean that you have to be there for it. You don’t have to. Just because you love that person doesn’t mean that you have to help them through the process. If you’re in an abusive situation, and you truly think the person you love is trying to change, they can change on their own time, and they can come back to you a changed person.”

What LaMu went through is so- infuriating. I hope the best to her family. Rest in peace.

It takes (on average) 7 times for a victim of domestic violence to leave and stay away. Also, the risk of homocide increases greatly upon leaving. We really need to be more preventative and hold the perpetrators accountable. This is very sad and my heart is with her family. 😿💔

The cops failed me when I finally left, after my ex stabbed a stranger trying to help me. He is free. I am still in fear. The cops will care when he eventually kills me. Because I did not call them enough. He broke a window to get back in the house, when I was on the phone with the cops. What could I do but hang up. No evidence of abuse they said... had to be self defense, even though he had a knife and was dragging me away before a stranger stepped in, to the point of my clothes being ripped at the seams. Stabbed the stranger in the lung. My ex is free... he promised to destroy my life, and he did. Apparently it was self defense because a stranger was stabbed trying to protect me... The cops suck here.

To all the females out there, no mater your age. Just remember that you do not deserve abuse of any kind. The very first time you are abused whether through words, when you did nothing wrong, or worse, your boyfriend uses his strength in any way, whether by blocking you from leaving the room, apartment when you want, or again worse, slaps you..
Please love yourself, respect yourself and learn to live alone and be content.. This is preferable then being an a abusive relationship.. Please, on the first occasion of your partner raising his voice, using his strength against you or absolutely anything similar to these things.. Just make quick plans and leave and save yourself..

I know two wrongs don't make a right, and "justice" was served, but I wish abusers like this would have to go through the same exact pain they put their victims through. LaMu was so strong, beautiful and kind she definitely didn't deserve any of this... R.I.P. LaMu you were an angel ❤

Two wrongs do make a right when it’s an a-hole getting what’s coming to him, that’s called justice

I was tearing up when Stephanie was reading the letter that La Mu father wrote and when La Mu older sister felt after her death. Such an heartbreaking story. I feel that La Mu is the type of friend that is always there for you, and is also the person who will listen to you when you are having a bad day. May her rest in peace. ❤

The ex-husband is absolutely horrible, I can't even imagine how LaMu was feeling during those 3 hours and how the family couldn't do anything about it. My heart goes out to the family ❤

Horrible isn’t even enough to describe this vile, disgusting, awful, waste of human flesh, I cannot describe the strong emotions I feel but NONE of them are positive towards this man.
I hope her family is doing okay, and LaMu has found peace after her passing.

It's so heart wrenching knowing the family put so much blame on themselves when it should all be on that monster. The dad did such an amazing job raising both daughters with little to no resources. When the sister said that growing up in the home was the happiest memory, you know that the parents did something right.

This case brought me to tears multiple times. I feel so bad for her family, her children, and all the viewers whose hearts she touched. What a beautiful soul, ripped from this world far too soon. 😭💜

The video of her sister crying and mourning her has me fighting back tears. You can tell that she was dearly, and deeply loved. I've never had a kind or caring family and I've often felt skeptical when others insist they truly love theirs as all I've known of family is neglect, hatred, abuse, and cruelty, but the words she spoke for her sister make me believe.

Lamu sounds like a happy, positive and friendly person. I still can't believe a monster had to cut her life short in a painful death.

RIP Lamu. You seemed like such a beautiful human being with the loveliest soul. The world is dimmer without you in it. I'm glad that the scumbag who thought he had a right to her life is gone. I hate that her children are being raised by the person who helped create the monster who killed her, so infuriating.
