3:48 For me, a big advantage of a manual gearbox is that they are far less likely to get stolen. Most criminals see the stick and will pass your car over because they aren't confident that they can drive it correctly.

My 987 is arctic silver not hooker red, and still receives plenty of attention. I seldom let it out of my sight because of others petty bullshit, I know exactly where you're coming from. Great video, keep up the good work
Great video. Outstanding advice overall - I also have a “hooker” red(guards red) 911 and have noticed the same thing -especially about people parking next to you and also the confusion about what kind of car it is and quickly judging that it must be some super exotic sports car when it’s actually just a 15 year old 911 that’s been kept in good shape.
Good video. This is a honest video about what you experience when you have a nice luxury sports car. It doesn’t matter if it cost less than a Camry, or a Civic. I actually love bright color cars. I’ve switched to bright color interiors and black/white/grey cars to avoid extra attention.
I’m in CA, and I can guarantee you women know what kind of car that is! We even buy them! 😂. The part about people parking next to you...No words truer spoken! I park my 987 in the furthest parking spot I can, and without fail, someone ALWAYS has to park next to it, not one space over, but right next to it! Drives me nuts! You always cover things that make me a better Porsche owner! Keep up the good work!
You are doing it wrong :) You need to chose the car to park next to, i.e. something new and/or nice, where you can expect pride of ownership. An owner of a new C class Mercedes won't bang his door in to yours, while an owner of a 20 year old Nissan Stanza probably doesn't care. You already learned that parking at the end of the lot does not work, so chose a "safe" neighbour. Also, parking close to the shop entrance may be better because there are more eyes on everything, so people feel less emboldened to scratch your car etc
Spot Fucking On. Same way with my '02 330Cica BMW. I have to keep explaining to the new wife, that hey, people will try to run into you, and screw with the car, even when it is parked in a public place. This was true in small town TEXAS, and now in Florida. Preach on, brother!
When I was a kid, I used to wander up to Porsches and stare in admiration. Never did it cross my mind, even at 12 years old, to put my hands on them. They were far less common 25 years ago than they are now, and to me they were unicorns. An inspiration to become successful and have my own one day. Never something to mess with.
Totally understand where you are coming from with this video. We had a BMW 535M back in the mid 80’s and it drove us mad how many times we would park it at the remotest part of the parking lot and come back to a dented, grungy Ute parked right next to it. Now we have a Porsche Cayman we are very careful where we park it.
As far as I understand, regardless of the insurance we buy and precautions we take when it comes to expensive items, it's wise to never have too much of our relative net worth invested in them since the stress that comes with that can make owning them not worthwhile. You're spot on that things will get better Nathan. We can do it much faster If people realize they should be the ones improving their own lives, instead of hoping some slick talking politicians in a far away big city will (or even can) do it for them. And you're a great example of improving one's situation through using your hands and brain, it's been awesome watching you do it. Fingers crossed that more of your viewers catch this mentality.

I have daily driven 987s in LA and in Las Vegas for years. I have never had these problems. Thank for the mechanical info but your opinions are something else. Cheers man.
At least in the UK a Porsche has something about it that means it is usually not a deliberate vandalism target. However it's low height does mean it is vulnerable in parking lots where drivers sitting high up do not see it or missjudge its size.
Great topic. Funny because I’m always thinking about switching into a plain Jane Silver 911 like a 10 year old 997, but I’m not sure about how to realistically daily drive it? Parking at a garage at work is fine, but shopping at Home Depot or Walmart? I’m just paranoid about someone keying the hell out of it.

Lots of life lessons made in here, everything from from respecting people property, to working hard for what you've got. Definitely prefer your channel over the guys buying cars they can't afford and doing reviews on them. The ending was most profound, honestly, things are never as bad as they may seem. That is tough to realize in the moment, but things do change, and hopefully improve over time.
@3:14 I would guess that's more target fixation than intimidation. More often, than makes sense to me, cars will hit the cones of a construction zone. Not because they wanted to, but because they were fixated on the work being done or safety lights and the unwittingly steer in that direction.
The truth hurts. I left my 50K mi. mint 964 out on the street overnight recently on our upscale suburban neighborhood cul de sac - which I almost never do - and it was immediately egged. This not only left impact marks in the door and - something didn't know before - eggs eat into and discolor the clearcoat and silver paint. Because the car and paint was 100% original this prank left blemishes in the door that materially devalued both the appearance and value the car, over nothing. I mean this is a 30 year old car - not some $150K new porsche - WTF?
I like this guy. He is a real deal no bullshit kind of guy. I bought a new Porsche 911 4s last week (cash). People ask me why I bought it and I reply, "because it's really shinny :)" But you do receive lot more attention, both negative and positive. You've made some excellent points about the actual responsibility for what happens when you own one. It becomes a point of attention, wanted or otherwise, and may lead to being a victim of any number of crimes, from minor to life-ending. Yeah, definitely something to look out for. One of the downsides is that babysitting the car when it leaves your garage becomes a full-time responsibility. Like you said, can't leave it outside unattended for too long, sometimes even turning around may merit a surprise whence you look back and see a crowd of teens doing their thing. I think that these lessons are some of the more important ones and I don't see a lot of people talking about them, so thank you for sharing.

The reaction with the 308 is always positive because she’s now vintage. People know it’s a Ferrari. Nobody has ever pulled along side of me wanting to race….the Porsche experience is completely opposite. I average one person per drive who pulls up along side of me who wants to race…I simply ignore and enjoy the drive and experience. That’s really all one can do I think. Thank you for the video.

Between my 987.2 and now my 997.1 (both my only/daily driver), I’ve gotten predominantly positive attention. Sure there’s idiots who try to race on the highway, but mostly I’ve gotten really genuine people asking about the car (usually “what year is that?”), excited kids waving, and bemused/confused looks when I put groceries in the frunk. Sure, park it in a garage, but otherwise I treat it like a car and people seem to do the same. Great looking 987! I miss the mid-engine platform. Love the torque the 911 offers a bit lower down, but when revved out the cayman was everything I needed driving the twisty roads!
I love this video. And soooo true I have an 2018 f80 m3 and I can park 300 yards from the nearest car and walk in to a grocery store when I get out there is a sure bet that a car is next to me 🤬
Yeah this is the downside to owning a nice car. Which is why I would never buy a brand new car even though I could if I wanted to. Especially when you live in a busy city as I do. Just too many assholes around.
I've noticed that my 991 attracts Honda Civics and old Ford Mustangs... They all want to race me, lol. They think they need to tailgate for some reason, I don't get it. Mine is white and it still attracts attention. I can only image what a red or other bright color would bring. True statement, you can park way out in left field and someone will park right next to you. And they will park close, even though there is plenty of room for both us, just craziness! But I've also had really nice conversations with ordinary people who are interested. Most people are nice and just want to look at it. I just found your channel and enjoy your content. Thanks for taking the time to share your projects!
You know I remember watching your e46 videos which helped me repair my e46 330i Now I’m getting ready to buy a Porsche 911 992! Thank you for inspiring me and helping e a part of my journey congrats on such a long you tube career!!
The negative side of owning a hooker red (i call it midlifecrisis red) porsche... I've been going 5 under the speedlimit and old guy red in the face with anger telling me to slow down, in a parking: last parking spot furthest away idiots parking next to me, I've had people (2times) yell at me in parking lots after starting my car just starting to pull out of a spot, maybe going a couple kms an hour, no other cars in the way... good side: had kids ask to sit in it, people stop and admire, pictures taken, people asking questions etc.. you get a bit of both driving these things
It's a sad reflection of modern society and true wherever you are to a greater or lesser extent. It encourages me to look for anonymity in cars which is a pity. The US has/had a reputation that people respect and admire quality cars as an aspirational society - "I want one of those some day".
Lol "would be a shame if someone stole your stuff". Yeah, that would be a shame...cuz when you never come home and someone files a missing person report, when the cops come asking questions, I'll just shrug my shoulders. "Someone came to steal my suff and never camr home you say? Must've ripped someone else off, occifer cuz all my stuff is still here. Now check out this cool new garden I have right next to the burn barrel."
So you mean to tell me that there are actual people that have no idea what a Porsche looks like? Porsche has probably THE most recognizable car shape/design in the world.
I thought it was only me being paranoid about having a nice car in this world we live in....I've been wanting a 996 c4s but been hesitant because I feel that the car is going to start controlling my life due to all of the issues this man has brought up.....thanks for the video.
I too live in a small town and everybody knows me and my wife. LOL! you are so right about parking in a grocery store lot! I park as far away as I can,, I come out and some idiot is parked RIGHT next to me. ARG!!
Totally get you even though I live in NZ. Its a shame but fact as you say. I also have a BMW and will careful of that also. My old Holden Barina worth a grand I have no worries with at all and use for work everyday.
the beacon thing.... so true, drove an nb miata that was 900 bucks and was just enough for me to take it to walmart where i worked and someone keyed the absolute piss out of the side of it lol
Valid message. Agree completely, I have a 987 in the same color. Paid a lot less for it than a new base model Camry for instance but no comparison in the assumptions people make about me for owning it. …Fun as hell to drive but not as a primary daily driver in the city…. Thanks for the videos!
Keeping it real to all the owners who own a Porsche !! By the end of the day, many people will do something to a nice car either for Jealousy or just because they want to be reckless. I have done a lot of modifications to my Porsche & still have to be cautious about where I park and who’s around me. So safety first mahalo / thank you for making this video 🤙🏽
I live in Italy. I have a red mustang. I can confirm everything you've just pointed. Also own a cayenne and a 5 series, but don't have the same problem with those. I guess you hit the nail : shiny different things attract stupid people.
Really sorry to hear those stories.. As someone who lives in a small town close to Munich, Germany and drives an old Porsche myself that is so weird to hear - here its the complete opposite. ppl come by and admire the car and are intrested in the history of it and so on - maybe its just a german thing bc. everyone knows a porsche and they are way more comon around here then in the US I guess. Might be the other way around if you dive an old Mustang around here - but never seen someone trying to scare someone by driving into the opposite road site bc of envy or whatever.. Anyways - awesome video and hope it won't affact ur attiude to ur cars and the fun you have driving it.
One advice to this dude, upgrade your neighborhood. This video is funny and informational. This happened with me when I am driving porsche, people like to race or show off or overtake you in one lane. WTF is that. When I have expensive cars, I try to make sure the color is not too attractive. Also the hate mentality is there, if you are a woman that means my rich husband is paying, woman can not be rich.
Hello Nathan… New to the channel and a Porsche guy.. Great car ( guy/person) video.. Actually.. real world … olde school common sense. Good stuff..! Kudos..!
Lesson is perhaps don’t get your 911 in red or similar bright color and maybe don’t bring it to Walmart. Yes, unfortunately the great unwashed of most people will almost always disappoint you
I have a mint $9,000 986 and it gets as much attention and compliments as some exotic car. I can’t drive it to work because my coworkers would be pissed and assume I’m making way more money than them with their $500 a month lease payments on new Toyota’s and Subarus. You know from the comments they make.
It makes me sad when I hear that. We Europeans used to look up to the US as a culture where people are happy about the success of others, instead of being envious miserably pricks like the norm is over here. It sucks that you guys also caught this mental virus. How's the 986 been treating you? I'm thinking of maybe saving up for one myself since they're so cheap (for a Porsche) nowadays.
@@andyb6851 Happy about the success of others? Here? There has been a real class war going on here for over a decade. Talk of reparations from people who are not guilty to others they never victimized. More talk of redistribution of wealth from those who worked to those who never did. Not from the hyper-rich or political elite, they are driving the narrative. Then, there was always the pretentiousness. Unemployed, by choice, college kids spending $500 a week in restaurants, coffee shops, and bars on credit cards, then demanding forgiveness for their education loans. So many people live beyond their means, in debt to impress others with their material things. The 986 has been very reliable, affordable, and easy to maintain and restore. A pure joy to work on. Very therapeutic to drive.

Nathan thank you for your videos man,iI have learned lots from you in the technical dept.I have a 2006 CS silver lobster claws.I have had the fortune to have owned a few Porsches in my life while working hard to buy them and care for them, just like you.The 987.1 is one of the best handling Porsches if not the best.super nice design from every angle observed.Keep up the great work and sense of humour man.All best to you from Canada.
Jealousy and envy and I am in a town that is littered with exotics. don't forget tailgaters.
Even the police knew i owned a 90 red miata in my nieghborhood not of the same value but similar experiences.
Jeeps follow me extremely closely. I take a turn at 60 and no more jeep.
And soooo true I have an 2018 f80 m3 and I can park 300 yards from the nearest car and walk in to a grocery store when I get out there is a sure bet that a car is next to me 🤬
It is true I park far away in the parking lot where there is absolutely no one for 100 feet you come out and someone’s parked right next to you
Yeah this is the downside to owning a nice car.
I was smiling when I watched this video because the points made are so true :).
Cracking video mate 👍👍from paisley Scotland
I do not own Porsche but have a BMW convertible and NEVER EVER park it outside over night. Period.
I live in the antesis of where you live … Scottsdale …. Every third car is Luxury!! Nice Video . Unique Content . Cheers !
You know I remember watching your e46 videos which helped me repair my e46 330i
Now I’m getting ready to buy a Porsche 911 992!
Thank you for inspiring me and helping e a part of my journey congrats on such a long you tube career!!
Thank you for sticking with the channel , people like you make it all possible
The negative side of owning a hooker red (i call it midlifecrisis red) porsche... I've been going 5 under the speedlimit and old guy red in the face with anger telling me to slow down, in a parking: last parking spot furthest away idiots parking next to me, I've had people (2times) yell at me in parking lots after starting my car just starting to pull out of a spot, maybe going a couple kms an hour, no other cars in the way... good side: had kids ask to sit in it, people stop and admire, pictures taken, people asking questions etc.. you get a bit of both driving these things
Clicked because of porsche. Stayed for the life lessons. Subscribed
This is true I daily drive a 987.2 S it’s worth a lot more and it’s not red ..I try to be nice about it but still
It's a sad reflection of modern society and true wherever you are to a greater or lesser extent. It encourages me to look for anonymity in cars which is a pity. The US has/had a reputation that people respect and admire quality cars as an aspirational society - "I want one of those some day".
Great video....absolutely the truth too. I agree 100 percent. Have had the same problem because of what I drive lol petty people
Lol "would be a shame if someone stole your stuff".
Now check out this cool new garden I have right next to the burn barrel."
lol
The last five minutes was gold. Were the Sam age, and I’m in a similar place in life. God bless you, you’ve life figured out
Yes the old man logic works well lol
Nathans Porsche Workshop #boomerthings The kids don’t quite get it lol
ARG!!
The more you try to avoid people the more the want to crowd you.
100% truth
You could always move to Alaska 😁
@@RothBeyondTheGrave It is the truth.
So true! No matter how far away I park my Cayman from other cars, it’s always surrounded by POS cars when I come out of the supermarket
Ironically most of your encounters I have had happen with my 2023 Mach 1.
These are dime a dozen here in the SF Bay Area, nobody will notice it unless it is a Ferrari or Mclaren or Lambo.
Valid message. Agree completely, I have a 987 in the same color.
Paid a lot less for it than a new base model Camry for instance but no comparison in the assumptions people make about me for owning it.
…Fun as hell to drive but not as a primary daily driver in the city….
Thanks for the videos!
This was an eye opener!! Thank you!!
Great video im subscribing i want a 911 997 and a lot youve said has rang some bells inside thanks for the content brodie
I live in Italy. I have a red mustang. I can confirm everything you've just pointed. Also own a cayenne and a 5 series, but don't have the same problem with those. I guess you hit the nail : shiny different things attract stupid people.
That’s the truth of when you start building success- top points in this video
At 3:15 what the hell is going on in America. I literally never experienced this in Europe ever in my life
One advice to this dude, upgrade your neighborhood.
This is the number 1 thing that's stopping me from getting a 911. People are crazy.
Nice video. I've been looking for one in southern CA. Hard to find a good one in a nice color, most are black, white, silver. Red looks sharp.
If you asked the average person what year they think the cayman is, what do you think they’d say?
2017
The theft and violence points really made me reconsider if I could get one of these.
Hello Nathan…
New to the channel and a Porsche guy..
Great car ( guy/person) video..
Actually.. real world … olde school common sense.
Good stuff..!
Kudos..!
Thank you for watching
One of the better videos I've seen here on youtube in recent months. Great!
Lesson is perhaps don’t get your 911 in red or similar bright color and maybe don’t bring it to Walmart. Yes, unfortunately the great unwashed of most people will almost always disappoint you
“Por-sha”
Cop magnet. I have a 718 GTS, and they have sat behind my car when parked or followed me a few times now. I have never had this in my Tahoe
I live in south Carolina and if I ever finally get the opportunity to buy a cayman and someone tries to get it out my yard !! They dead
what the fuck is he talking about. why am I listening to this
Would those words be valid for a brand new Nissan Z? It isn`t as shiny as a Porsche.
Again, you are SO right! The haters are the idiots that are losers! Always keep yourself ARMED! Take care of you and your Family!!
Nathan I'm still laughing over the Trumpets of hell comment on the M5 video
i thought i was the only one who noticed that everyone likes to park near my porsche. ive always parked it as far as hell.#salute
It's because it's safe. If the thief is there, he/she'll choose the porsche and leave the other car alone :). just a thought.
Planning on buying a 991.1 in 2023. Just gotta make sure it’s not red lol
